790 Reports: Houck Could Be O-Line Coach Of Year

1s were going against 2s for the majority of the work last night and the rush is about 3/4 speed bc you can't touch the qb. The Line play def has improved but sounds like the reporter wasn't very hip to what was going on out there. When it was 1s v. 1s in the red zone work late in the scrimmage, there was good pressure from JT, Holliday, and Don Spragan.

So has Hadnot been working at C or is him starting at center just speculation?
It's complete speculation from McKinney haters. Of course, anything can happen...but, the crystal ballers have out did themselves with the Hadnot prophecy.

It's more likely that since Wade Smith went down, that the number 2 guy needed to get some real reps with the first team...because he will have to actually play Monday night.

LOL! I think he is an average center. But, I think the trashing of him this off-season has been way over the top. Some people actually act like they have studied game tape of McKinney playing is this system and discovered that he is the weakest link.

I'd need a little more to go on than some off-season one on one drills to judge his play. Especially, since we have an improved system. I love the training camp reports...but, they can't really and clearly see how the offensive line is performing on an individual basis with their distant view of the field.

Playing football is not a one on one drill. Let's see how the Miami Dolphin center does in a game and then trash him if he is the weakest link.

Alright, just checking.

I'm sure Houck feels the same way. That's why we should see both Seth and Rex starting preseason games.

No, actually, it's logical at this point. If you read between the lines, McKinney aint exactly in the catbirds seat here.

For one, he for all intents and purposes has been demoted from the first team. Vernon Carey, Jeno James, Rex Hadnot, and Stockar McDougle have not been, except in case of absence for James health issues and McDougle's brother being shot.

McKinney doesnt fit the character that Linehan and Houck traditionally use for their lines. They want big, nasty, inline blockers. That's Rex Hadnot. Seth McKinney is a more atheletic, pulling type player.

I really don't know what that means...do you?

Here is what the boss had to say...

“I know that you guys will probably say well how come Rex Hadnot is playing center? With the number of offensive linemen that we have, we thought it was really important that Rex gets some work at center. We had it planned out that after 10 practices we would put him to center and play him at center some. It really wouldn’t involve Seth McKinney..."

im begging saban and wayne h to sign houck to a very long term deal i think judging on how this line performs maybe 5 to 10 million for 7 or 8 years. hes worth every penny

If my memory is correct, Houck is the one of the highest paid o-line coaches.

do you guys know how long we got him for? cause it would break my heart to see him get our line built up good just to see him leave for somebody else.

790 The Ticket just said that tonights practice was a huge success and they even went as far to say we could have one of the top O-Line's in the league. The guy even said that Houck could be the best O-Line coach in the league after what he has done with this team. Also stated that each of the quarterbacks had close to 20 seconds of protection. I know that these are very bold statements for only after 2 weeks of practice, but it is very good to hear that our O-Line is vastly improved. Finally they said that our O-Line will impress everyone on Monday.
Great to hear!:thewave:

Right now he's on a 3 year deal for $2.5 million. He's the second highest paid O-Line coach.
