A Honest look at Jeff Ireland

90% of the posters on this board want Ireland fired. Please factually tell us why.

To start I will rebuttal as much as I can that I know. Others please chime in if you are able to add to the discussion in a positive way. I am hoping to avoid and ignore posts where people offer no additional information or want to sling mudd. Of course I am asking for factual information. Stuff you can prove. Not stuff you believe because it fits an agenda.:hclap:

I will start:

Ireland has been here for 6 yrs

1. Under Parcells 11-5 playoffs lost first round
2. Under Parcells 7-9
3 Sparano enters picture, new shemes, complete coaching change(sort of, Parcells still here) 7-9
4 Sparano personal adjustments 6-10, Sparano fired
5. Philbin enters picture, new schemes, complete coaching change 7-9
6. Philbin personal adjustments 8-8 TBD

Ireland has never had more then 1 season building any scheme implemented since he was Hired

I am not interested in starting another Ireland bashing thread as all of them on this board seem to be.

I am trying to elicit honest factual information about the time Jeff Ireland has been here.

Please enlighten

You listed the facts yourself in numbers

So, 12 players in 6 year, half of them being average marginal anyways, is your answer.. Lololol... Ok.. Next.

Tannehill, pouncy, clay, hartline, Carroll, Wilson, reshad jones, Chris Clemons, rishard Mathews, odrick, OV, miller, just to name a few

Go look at other nfl teams over that time period, and u won't find many teams w better draft results than us

The team is better, we have our long term answer at qb, ready to put it all together in year 3

Not getting the deal done for Brandon Albert which could have averted the entire fiasco with the OL. I blame him entirely for the collapse of the offense.

My prediction is Ireland and Philbin will be gone by Friday.

His drafts speak for themselves. In 6 drafts he has not picked 1 bonafide superstar, and he's had some pretty high picks. I've been charting his drafts and at some point when I am finished I will post them. It takes quite some time to break them down. However, they show me he has picked up some decent, not great, players in the late rounds. Unfortunately, when graded out, it shows they play at the level of a mid round pick. That is all fine and good, but you still need to draft a few triples and home runs in there. His higher picks, when compared to all other players drafted, basically wind up playing at the potential of mid rounders too. So when you look at the team as a whole, we have a bunch of average players who most likely would not start on most other teams. The grading system takes into account their games started, pro bowl appearances, individual stats to form a number based on their overall team participation and production. The trend continues from year to year, and that's why we are a mediocre team. We are comprised of players that have 4th, 5th, 6th round capabilities. As an example, and sure some of this is luck, but Alfred Morris was drafted at 173 and rated as the 2nd most productive player in the 2012 draft (based on his rookie year production). To put that into perspective, when we picked Josh Kaddu at 155, Alfred Morris was still on the board. Sure it's hind site, but these guys evaluate talent for a living and you tell me Ireland has not been able to pull a diamond from the rough in 6 years? You would think all that time he should have gotten lucky at least one time. Heck, JJ got superstars Taylor in the 7th and Thomas in the 5th. Here's another example. Michael Egnew, drafted at 78, finished with a rating of 185. The 19 players listed were still available when we picked him. 1st number is draft slot, 2nd is overall rating. The rating number applies to only players drafted that year and where they are rated compared to each other. The lowest rated player on that list was rated twice as good as Egnew. There were many other players graded out better than Egnew, but I stopped half way. (twice as productive)
Michael Egnew TE 78 185
Alfred Morris RB 173 2
Mike Harris CB 176 6
Miles Burris OLB 129 23
Billy Winn DT 205 32
Nigel Bradham OLB 105 38
Robert Turbin RB 106 39
Josh Norman CB 143 43
Vic Ballard RB 170 44
Bobby Massie OT 112 45
James Micl Johnson ILB 120 47
Ben Jones C 99 49
Dennis Kelly CB 153 51
Daryl Richardson RB 252 55
Travis Benjamin WR 100 62
Orson Charles TE 116 66
Jarius Wright WR 118 67
Jonte Green DB 196 77
Alfonzo Dennard CB 224 79
Bryce Brown RB 229 80

The point is we drafted Egnew at 78 and his production was 185th best. Not good. That is a common thread in Irelands drafts. Some might not be this extreme, but the point is his higher picks he hits on, only play to the middle (average). He has never drafted a player late that grades out as a top 32 in the class. He has only had a few that have actually graded higher than where they were drafted. here is the 2012 draft, where our players were picked and where their production rating was. As I do the previous years, It should give a much better snapshot of how exactly he did on his picks as there have been more years to grade the picks. My guess, it isn't going to get much better, if at all.
All the players listed before our draft pick were still on the board and could have been drafted by us. All the players listed rated higher than our pick in terms of production for their respective team. Keep in mind this chart DOES NOT INCLUDE the 2013 stats, so based on playing time and stats, the rating positions could have changed a bit. The preceding years will be a more accurate picture as those players have played for a few years now, and the ratings have been adjusted on career stats, not just rookie year stats. It will be interesting to see those picks. I can't imagine where our 2013 draft picks will rate as not to many of them contributed much at all this year. I can guarantee you Dion Jordan would not grade out as the third best player drafted. Maybe in a few years, but not certainly now.
