A rational article by Greg Cotes

But, but, but ...

We're DOOMED!!!
(I read it here, so it must be true)

Me, I thought it was a slap in the face to Tannehill, a message that he is trusted only to manage games, not to go win them.

When you have a QB that is only a manager that leaves no room for error by the OL, RBs, WRs or the defense. A guy that can put a team on his back and carry them increases that non existent margin of error.

All I know is I had the first two games pegged as coin flips the whole time. I've been saying that since July and nothing changed my mind on that going into Sunday's game. And I was one of the more optimistic ones in that regard, most had us as pretty big dogs against NE and probably had us as a coin flip against Buffalo.

So we lost a coin flip people. Its not the end of the world.

Cote is right that "the decision" was a slap in the face to not just Tannehill but Lazor too. But lets be clear; we didn't give away the opportunity at free points. In fact, even though we had the ball its reasonable to assume the Bills were actually favored to get more points before halftime. I mean, we had 25 yards of total offense to that point and were literally going backwards in the second quarter. In my estimation at the very best we refused a coin flip for give or take 3 points. But I would say its entirely possible they were getting 3 points on the gamble and we would have been getting more like 2. If thats true, or if its even close to true then it would make "the decision" a good one. Would any of you put your $3 against my $2 on a coin flip?

If people think Tannehill deserved the right to execute a 2-minute drill, then perhaps he should score more than zero points in the 1st 28 minutes. The evidence would suggest that the most likely outcome would have been a 3-and-out leaving the Bills with a short field and 2 minutes to work with.

Just look at last night's game. I bet the Colt's coach wishes he had ran the ball on 3rd and 9 to secure a 2 score lead with 5 minutes to play. Instead Andrew Luck threw an interception. You would think Andrew Luck would at least have thrown the ball away in that situation rather than force a throw into tight coverage. Sometimes conservatism is warranted.

Philbin's decision to accept a 9-0 halftime deficit and regroup is defensible given what transpired during the 1st 28 minutes. After all they had overcome a 10 point halftime deficit just one week earlier. I'm sorry if Tannehill felt slighted by his coach's decision. Philbin was more concerned with doing what he felt best for the team as opposed to Tannehill's ego.

Nope sorry. The message he sent the team was one that the Dolphins were intimidated by the Bills. You can't send that message and expect the ppl under you to go out and play their best game moving forward. Philbin was wrong. Not sure how anyone can defend his decision.

If Philbin and Co. don't have enough faith in Tannehill to go get some points in that situation then: 1. Tannehill is not the QB for the future of this team or 2. Philbin is not the coach for the future of this team. There is one ultimate truism: you don't accomplish anything if you never try. Also, you'll never win if you don't score (just ask my kids' soccer coach about that one). To me every little chance you have to score points cannot be wasted..that means you Philbin...and its a losing mentality for sure. I would much rather be beat down for an aggressive mistake than to sit back and just take it.

Again, let's look at the halftime score of last night's game. I believe the Eagles were down by 14 on the road against a playoff caliber team. Who won the game? Was the game over at halftime? No. You can argue it either way. You can argue that Philbin had faith that a 9-0 halftime deficit was not insurmountable. If it is then perhaps Tannehill shouldn't be the QB.

I will say this, even if i'm not sure it'll come to pass, but you learn more about your team after a loss than after a win. Do we have the character, and fortitude to learn from this and become a better team? we'll find out. I'll continue to question if we have the coaches and the talent to sustain a winning streak, but you do have to take it one game at a time.

I agree 100%.

That kickoff return was a momentum killer! If we stopped the bills that drive and got the ball back, totally different game. Mind your gaps special teams, not too difficult to do

It just seems like some of our posters are not adults. As if it hurts some people because others are disappointed in the team or because others want to wait and reserve judgment. I just don't quite understand it. So people are disappointed because we lost a game. It's natural. We are fanatics. Some posts just sound so whiny imo. No disrespect to anyone intended.

Dag. I ought to know a LOT about the Dolphins.
