Alex Rodriguez makes more this year than his hometown Florida Marlins.

Boosted by his new deal with the New York Yankees, A-Rod tops the major league baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press. The 33 players on the Marlins' opening-day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million.

"The Marlins? It's amazing," Rodriguez said. "And they still seem to find a way to be very competitive. They have a great pool of talent; they made some unbelievable trades, so they have great personnel people. To win two championships in 11 years, that's really admirable, and I'm very proud of that organization, being from Miami."

Marlins should close shop!

This is old news. Funny thing is the Marlins will win more championships and A-Rod will retire with zero.

why? because they have a new stadium or have two titles in 11 years?

Because their payroll is insulting to the game and to the fans!!

This isn't 2003 or 1997 anymore!!

The payroll is supposedly gonna go up once the new stadium opens in 2011. Even with the crappy payroll they've been able to remain somewhat competitive (they were in the wild card chase late in '06) and they have arguably the best GM in baseball who keeps getting them good young talent when their current players get too expensive. Anyway, Loria has said that the payroll will be "middle of the pack" when the new stadium opens so we'll see what happens.

They were in the playoff chase then FIRED the guy who won Manager of the Year. And now they go and trade off Miggy and D-Train.

And I wouldn't believe Loria or bank on him. Remember his RICO lawsuit. Nuff said there!!!! He is a liar and a crook on every level.

What's he doing with the revenue sharing money he is getting?? That's free money he gets to spend on players and he is putting it in his own personal bank account.

And the Yankees payroll isn't?

NO!!!!!!! They put out a product that is respectable. They TRY to win!! That is what you want out of every franchise or owner being a fan!! You want the team you root for to TRY AND WIN EVERY YEAR!! That isn't insulting, that's good!!! The Marlins don't try and win every year, that is insulting. They don't even try to spend any money to try and be respectable!!

How does a team exist then if they don't try and win?

I'm predicting Loria will sell the team. He can barely afford it, and the new baseball site by the Orange Bowl will attract many people with $$$, as it will definitely sell more baseball tickets than the Dolphins site.

As long as we keep Larry Beinfest, we will be fine. Our team has been playing good; had a nice spring and we won last night, we got some nice young talent.

A-Rod makes more than the Marlins but the franchise has more rings than he has. What's he rocking there nowadays, a wedding ring? That's for noobs.
