A-Rod Makes More Than Marlins

Washington draws 2.7 mil fans and according to forbes is the most profitable franchise in the MLB. Not to mention a growth rate of 40% a year since they built the new stadium. So "new" stadiums don't fix anything do they?

40% growth rate a year since they built the new stadium. THE STADIUM HAS BEEN OPEN FOR 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes:

nice try through.

Washington drew the lowest number of fans ever for the 2nd game in a new facility.

It should of been phrased "since they began building." Its not a coincidence that the value of the team took off two years ago.

The same thing will happen with the Marlins. Their revenue may not spike in such a dramatic fashion but they'll benefit from having a new stadium. They've already pulled in over a hundred mil in profits over the last two years so its not like they're struggling to get by.

Personally I think its a great model for other teams to follow. Strip your team down to nothing and trade away all assets for 3-4 years and let the young players grow. Then invest in vet FAs, operate at a loss for a couple of years, and bring back a trophy.

IF your going to go with that model. Then you better have the lowest ticket prices in baseball. If your gonna strip down a team and not try to win..... you better not charge people market value for tickets. That is a disgrace and insulting to the fan base.

On some level it should be illegal to be honest. If you are fielding a team playing in a public facitlity that isn't trying to win when the "intent" of the team in such league is trying to win. Then let people in for free if the outcome of the games doesn't matter. At that point it stops becoming entertainment and its just a bunch of guys playing in a local park.

The Expos moved to Dc for the '05 season, DC announced the new ballpark in Dec of '04. The value of the team took off once they left Montreal and moved to Washington.

Yes that certainly helped matters. But it doesn't change the fact that a new stadium provides a dramatic boost in revenue and valuation. Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Detroit, etc... Build a new stadium and your revenue rises 50-80% overnight.
