A Skeptical View on Ronnie Brown

I don't know if I would depend on many videos...many a college players were busts in the NFL when their college days were full of exciting video highlights. Don't get me wrong I think Brown will be a good-great back because of his pass catching abilities.

Those guys were good athletes, but Bo Jackson (I can't post URLs yet) , IMHO, was in a class by himself. Bo was a MLB ALL-STAR (1989 All-Star MVP) that made some incrediable playes in the outfield. I remember him running down a fly ball and then running up the face of the outfield fence. I have never seen that before or since. His homerun in the 89 MLB All-Star was an absolute moonshot that wowed everone that saw it. How many on the list can you name that were a Heisman Trophy Winner, NFL All-Pro and MLB All-Star???
At 6-1 225lbs, Bo could run a ~4.20 40 yard dash, @ 225 freakin pounds!!! He could out run you or run over you, ask Brian Bosworth. If you watch some of Bo's runs in college and in the NFL, it was sad to see that his career was cut short by a freak hip injury. IF Bo had the opportunity to finish his career healthy, a lot of records would have been rewritten and incredible (even more so) stories passed on for generations.

I don't have any proof to show me he'll be great. He didn't post great numbers in college because he split time with Cadillac

I suspect that you seriously exagerated your hatred for pessimism (A tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable) since you did absolutely no research to support your skepticism (A doubting or questioning attitude or state of mind).

Does that also mean that Cadilac will stink up the place because he split time with Ronnie Brown?

Ronnie had some nice runs in that video. He showed he has a burst he showed he could run with power he showed he could juke when needed he spun he caught passes and he also showed patience. Im EXCITED!!!!

Burst? The guy has afterburners, which was obvious in the Arkansas game when he pulled away from 3 guys in virtually 2 seconds.

The best thing about the time shared at auburn is they dont have the miles on them that the other backs do. So longevity is the key there. The worst thing is they didnt gain as much experience and conditioning such as being able to carry the ball 30+ times a game

As for the whole he wasn't a "starter" in college argument... all I have to say is, neither was Priest Holmes.

Priest was a starter until a true freshman named Ricky Williams beat him out.

What's with the highlight reel showing 3 of Ronnie's runs multiple times? Two of his runs were awesome...very impressive... the rest were nice but nothing that shows that he's going to be great.

IMO Cedric Benson's highlights that were shown during the draft was way better then Yahoo's highlights of Ronnie.

On a separate note... there will probably never be another Bo Jackson in our life time. Only track and field great Carl Lewis is in the same class as Bo Jackson athletically.

Well, they really didn't share duties in 2002. In 2002 Caddy was injured midway thru the season (UF game/ 163 yds:D) Ronnie stepped in and rushed for 831 yds in the remaining 6 games of the season. He missed the Iron Bowl with a high ankle sprain or the total yards would have been higher. Ronnie was matched up against PSU's Larry Johnson (Heisman Winner) in the Capital One Bowl and completely outclassed Johnson (72 vs 184 yds). Anyone who witnessed that game saw that Ronnie was clearly a superior running back, as compared to Johnson. 2003 was a complete and total offensive disaster for AU. Losing Petrino and attempting to replace him with an offensive coordinator with zero experience was a major problem. Ronnie and Caddy's production suffered as a result. Since Caddy was healthy, Tubby reinserted him as the feature back. I don't know why, one theory was that since Caddy is an Alabama kid and Ronnie was a Georgia recruit that Caddy got the nod (not solely). Maybe Caddy had pictures of Tubby in a compromising position, that would have explained the RB situation.

2004 marked the year that BOTH backs actually were on the field at the same time. Many times Ronnie was used as a FB to block for Caddy!!!:fire: Ronnie is a quality back and an outstanding person. He is a model of character and integrity.

Bo Jackson was one of the greatest all around athletes ever, but he also had a degenerative hip problem and was not around for long....I'd rather have a very solid back who could give us 7-10 years than a guy who had 3-4 good years.

I agree. The only other athlete that has made me drop my jaw and say "OMFG" was Michael Vick. Different athletes, but those two are, IMO, in the same universe and separate from the rest of us mortals. Bo had amazing speed and strength, while Vick has amazing speed and quickness. I guess every once in a while God decides to have a little fun with us as if to say "wait till they get a load of this one".
