Abramson: The feeling is Gaine is the guy

So they are playing politics to please the fan base?

happens all the time!!!

and when they do it, the boards all start getting these posters rolling over and showing their bellies with "oh come on guys, we all wanted it another way, but it didnt work out. its OBVIOUS that they tried real hard. look at everyone they brought in"?

people say the brass on teams have NO interest in what the fans do. they dont follow the team boards. OH MAN, WHAT A LAUGH!! thats how they know how to gauge us, how to play us.

What do you think, was I speaking for myself or someone else?

Another thing according to me, anyone who has ever worked under Ireland as a scout should automatically be disqualified for any position with the Miami Dolphins. This also means that those who are disqualified but are currently employed should be fired, according to me.

It happens more often than not that an employee is held back by his superior because the superior is useless. We don't know how often Ireland suggested certain players and Ireland might have gone his own way and has dismissed valuable suggestions. Just because Ireland was below mediocre doesn't mean his staff was.

Yes he is, but he says it's the feeling from people he is talking too. I hope I am wrong about the situation and would have no problem eating Crow, but people I know that do have contacts within the Dolphins continue to tell me Aponte is on a power play here.

Unless you name names for validation purposes your opinion is as good as anybody's.

I heard from someone who has heard from someone who has talked with someone who is related with someone......

You are right it's opinion, just like everyone else on here. Sorry, my contacts aren't the boyfriend to girl that lives next door to the janitoprs daughter. But you are allowed to believe what you want, it's a free world. I have said I am more than willing to eat crow, and really hope I do, because I really don't like the things I am hearing. Take it for what it's worth...

Jeff Darlington, a much better reporter than Abramson, has already said Gaine won't be promoted.

Well let's be honest, we really don't know whose going to get hired until it happens.

Darlington has said that the feeling is that Gaine won't get promoted, but he's well thought of

Some have said Gamble is the guy, but as of yesterday we haven't requested an interview.

Omar Khan reportedly is getting some love. One Pittsburgh beat writer said Rooney wouldn't say whether or not we requested an interview while the other says we didn't.

We reportedly want to talk to Alonzo Highsmith and Marc Ross; both Rooney Rule guys but both decent candidates in their own rights.

All we really have to go buy is what Garfinkle has said...

1.Prior GM experience doesn't matter
2.Must be willing to work as part of a team.
3.Must have a track record in terms of scouting/personnel
4.Must be an out of the box thinker, creative, and open to new ideas.

The only way I'm cool with Gaine is if he knows that this is a 1 year deal to prove himself and work with Philbin. If it doesn't work next year, the whole crew is gone and we do things the right way next year - meaning we hire a good GM first and let him pick his coaches.

As the Dolphins put together their list of candidates for GM, a name that's come up a couple of times is UM's Alonzo Highsmith.

So there is another consistent we know. The one name everybody is pointing out is Highsmith

Yep there are so many mixed signals.

Gaine's not my first choice by a longshot, but I wouldn't throw poop at the walls if we promoted him. One of Jeff Ireland's biggest problems by far was his complete lack of people skills, while Gaine is the opposite -- people who have met him usually talk about how much they like the guy. Nobody liked Jeff Ireland.

I still think Highsmith is likely to be our next GM. Packers guy, scouting experience, and already has a good relationship with Joe Philbin. I don't know what to think about that one. Strangely, one thing I do like about Highsmith is that he had a pretty good boxing career between his NFL career and going into scouting. As a matter of principle, I've always liked candidates with a more diverse career history.

I like Highsmith and he deserves his shot and would be fine with him, but you gotta remember the Rooney rule as well.

I thought this was a coveted job. Is Gaine really the best man for the job? We heard the same thing when Philbin was hired but I figured we would be handicapped in hiring a coach by having a gm few people wanted to have forced on them. Could it be possible that now that forcing Philbin and Aponte on the next gm will urt us in our search. This may be why we should have fired everyone.

Does the Rooney rule apply to GM positions? I thought it was only toward coaching.

I am pretty sure it applies for HC and GM positions.

The Rooney Rule, implemented in 2003, was named for Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney, who steadfastly pushed the league to require every team to interview at least one minority candidate every time there is a coaching or general manager opening.
