Abramson: The feeling is Gaine is the guy

It doesn't make sense to fire Ireland and then just promote a guy that worked under Ireland. Can't see Gaine becoming GM.

I thought this was a coveted job. Is Gaine really the best man for the job? We heard the same thing when Philbin was hired but I figured we would be handicapped in hiring a coach by having a gm few people wanted to have forced on them. Could it be possible that now that forcing Philbin and Aponte on the next gm will urt us in our search. This may be why we should have fired everyone.

It will all depend on the reporting structure;

If a true GM is brought in with power over the football team and football side of operations then no he is not and would not get the job.

If a GM is brought in to have some power but ultimatley reports to someone other than Ross or there is a colaboration between GM, Philbin, Aponte then he might be a candidate.

If a GM comes in only in name and has no power then he probably is a top candidate.

I want a true GM to come in and run the football side. I don't want some puppet that won't have any real power.

Is this Alonso Highsmith the same guy that used to play for the canes years ago? Wasn't he a LB? Sorry but the 80's are a little bit of a blur for me....lol

Ozzy rules!!

LOL, yes one in the same

I can only see one scenario whereby promoting Gaines would make sense. If Gaines had been making good recommendations that Ireland was ignoring, then perhaps Gaines has the evaluation chops to be the GM. But unless there's some evidence of that, and that would be internal information that we'll likely never know, I'd rather go outside the organization.

He was not a LB...he was RB. His son was.

Jeff Darlington, a much better reporter than Abramson, has already said Gaine won't be promoted.

Agree, but that doesn't mean Gaine isn't valuable to the organization--I think he is with the draft a few months away. I also think a new GM is a definite and it will not be anyone in house, and someone with a PROVEN track record. The big question will be what authority the new GM will have over those already in the organization. No GM worth his salt will give up total control because he will ultimately be judged by the performance of the team, and if he has little or no control that's a recipee for disaster. I think Philbin has a one year rope to turn this ship around and the GM will be told that coming in. Aponte is very ambitious and will eventually move on to the NFL. Gaine is an up and comer and will eventually be hired by someone but will stick with the Dolphins for a while. The only thing I'm not sure about is what, if any, Peterson's role will be. Right now he's just an advisor but could be brought in to be the Czar. Hey we're not playing football so this is the only entertainment we have left, so I say speculate away!

But like Nublar said this is pure speculation and just a couple of days ago there was a report that Ross discounted Gaine and Aponte as potential candidates because they are not complete in their respective skill sets.

This is the most SENSIBLE approach.

aponte is a capologist. She wouldn't know a good football player from a spelling bee champion.

gaine is a personnel guy who is not as well versed in business affairs.

A hire of either as GM would stink to high heavens of tokenism and PC-ness.

We need a czar to oversee our czar. it's worse than congress really. I'm completely opposed to the whole czar thing.

What do you think, was I speaking for myself or someone else?

Another thing according to me, anyone who has ever worked under Ireland as a scout should automatically be disqualified for any position with the Miami Dolphins. This also means that those who are disqualified but are currently employed should be fired, according to me.

Just a hypothetical here, but how do we know Ireland listened to his scouts. Based on the Hyde article we already know he didn't listen to Philbin when it came to the roster and certain things that he wanted, ie Cogs being released and finding a better LT. After reading everything that has come out, Ireland to me seems like he thinks he's smarter than everyone in the room when it comes to the roster, just like his mentor Parcell's was. I would have no problems believing that when it came to the draft, Ireland many times selected the players he most wanted and not those his scouts had rated the highest. The is definitely believable when you look at the fact that Ireland ran a horizontal draft board where he selected for need and not the BPA.

Well let's be honest, we really don't know whose going to get hired until it happens.

Darlington has said that the feeling is that Gaine won't get promoted, but he's well thought of

Some have said Gamble is the guy, but as of yesterday we haven't requested an interview.

Omar Khan reportedly is getting some love. One Pittsburgh beat writer said Rooney wouldn't say whether or not we requested an interview while the other says we didn't.

We reportedly want to talk to Alonzo Highsmith and Marc Ross; both Rooney Rule guys but both decent candidates in their own rights.

All we really have to go buy is what Garfinkle has said...

1.Prior GM experience doesn't matter
2.Must be willing to work as part of a team.
3.Must have a track record in terms of scouting/personnel
4.Must be an out of the box thinker, creative, and open to new ideas.

Well that rules out Aponte, so the masses can hopefully put down their torches and pitch forks.
