Adam Gase Proving You Are Not What Your Record Says You Are

Congratulations! Do you want a cookie? We have been bad for 20 years. Not that hard to predict what will be the outcome will be.

Then why was he in the minority and criticized? People around these parts don't figure stuff out until it's screaming in their faces ... but after it happens everyone knew all along. Such is life.

If you want to look at the major outlier in the Gase era it is the performance of the home team. They are 30-14 outright -- including playoffs -- for a winning percentage above 68%.

Historically, NFL home teams win at a 57% clip. So if you applied that to a 44 game sample the home team should be closer to 25-19 instead of 30-14.

The Gase era is 5 games more friendly to home teams than it should be, if you want to look at it that way. We have pulled out many home games we had no business winning, and flopped in road games that shouldn't be so unmanageable.

The 3 Yards Per Carry Guys have touched on this, specifically ckparrothead on the wild discrepancy between Dolphins home scoring and road scoring under Gase.

It is still a relatively small sample. If Gase continues as head coach these things will begin to balance out. The most recent game is an example of that. We haven't lost too many close games under Gase but it happened against the Colts.

The primary deficiency in a big picture category continues to be pass defense. Last season at this time <O> (Shouright) was properly focusing on that every week. Not a heck of a lot has changed, other than interception rate. The Dolphins are allowing 7.9 YPA for 28th in the league. Per my prior point, the home results have been excellent but road pass defense is lousy. The Dolphins are second in the league in home defensive passer rating at 75.2. But that falls all the way down to 106.7 in road games. Last year was remarkably similar -- 80.2 at home and 106.7 on the road.
