Adam Scheft: Why Does He Say We Have Little Talent?

If you go by the entire team looks like the team is missing talented depth in defense.

Adam Shefner said that tonight???????? If he did his credibilty went down the tubes becuase 3 weeks ago he was saying and I quote him, after hanging out at the Dolphins facilty, "Nick Saban runs the most organized pratices I've ever seen and I guarentee that the Dolphins will win at least 9 games this season." Then he went on to talk about some of the key players on the team as reasons why. If he said we have no talent tonight he changed his mind 180 degrees. I hate when reporters do that and I like him so I hope it's not true. I'll have to watch Total Access tonight.

That is what I was thinking. His last report at the start of Dolphins camp praised them and made them sound like a dark horse to watch.

let me list your tallent:

Chambers
McMichael
McDougle
J. Taylor
K. Carter
Z. Thomas
Madison (but hes not as good as many fins think)
R. Williams (ill add him to the list, but we dont know how he will do)
R. Browm.

and D.Boston, Booker, possibly Crowder, he's a rookie, but he's a starting linebacker, and is doing pretty good, he's really talented also.

I don't understand it. Adam Schefter was interviewed by Rich Eisen on the Football Network and comented on the Ronnie Brown signing. He said that it is good that he is in camp since the Dolphins have very little talent. I completely disagree. On the offensive side of the ball we have Ricky & now Ronnie Brown to complement Sammie Morris and Lamar Gordon, certainly above average. WR's Chris Chambers (A super stud ready to bust out), Marty Booker, David Boston & others, not too shabby in my opinion. TE McMichael is certainly one of the top tight ends in the league. QB's are average, until proven otherwise, but not terrible and the OL is a work in progress with some recent additions which should help.

The D is centered around Zach, Taylor & Madison with some good solid lineman like Zgonina and others coming over from other teams during the offseason. Also the kid Travis Daniels looks like he has tremendous potential and Matt Roth will be good. I didn't even mention Crowder.

The special teams include Mare & Turk, two of the best.

So if you would please enlighten me on Schefter's comment because I don't see it. Sure there are more talented teams out there but I believe that our nucleus is pretty darn good.:shark:

His criticism is based on the OL, which at the very least is unproven...They had a very good game against the Jags and a so-so game against the Bears...while we seem to think it's improved, only the regular season will tell us for sure...

It is also based on the fact that RW will be gone for the first 4 games and Brown is a rookie that hasn't shown much yet. The rest of our stable of RBs is mediocre.

Zach is considered just past his prime. He is a risk for injury, particularly with the way he plays with what looks to me like reckless abandon..(that is not critizing him, that is a complement.)

Madison is way past his prime and showed last year to be on the decline.

No one else in the secondary has shown much this preseason to make you think of Patrick Surtain or Ed Reed, have they ??

JT is at his peak, but is now learning a different scheme.

With the exception of QB, our offensive skilled positions are a fairly talented group. But with the QB situation their potential is dragged down to mediocre...

We have several players with more potential, as you mentioned, but until they show that potential...our talent level is weak...It's a fact...

However, I still feel that some of the new guys will show up on Sundays and the Saban D scheme will be digested by the vets and young guys alike and we'll improve as the season goes on...

I don't even know who this guy is. And even if I did, why does what he say matter? He's just some regular ol' guy with a job. Apparently his boss thinks what he says is worth money, so he gets paid to talk about football. That doesn't mean he knows anything

talent is in part utilization of same, and I for one am looking forward to watching this coaching staff utilize our talent, even though I consider this (dare I say it) something of a rebuilding year-It's about time we had a rebuilding year-even at our worst in recent memory last year we mortgaged the future (Feeley, Gordon, even dumping Ogunleye) to try to have a shot-give this team a chance to disprove all the biased media douchebags out there

We should have payed Wale. Damn you Wannstedt

ok take off the homer glasses.

Adam Schefter is a smart and objective man. He wasn't criticizing our team, he just got finished telling everyone how great Saban's system is. Saying we are short on talent is not a diss - its a true statement. If our 4-12 record from last year doesn't prove it to you, how about two preseason losses?

You said we have Ronnie and Ricky - well Ricky is for sure a talent but Ronnie has never set foot on an NFL field, how do we know he will have talent? Chambers is talented, but at what other teams have as a #2 WR. Sammie Morris is a stopgap fix, not a pure talent RB. Gordon flat-out sucks, i can't believe you mentioned his name and "talent" in the same sentence. Marty Booker had talent but fell into obscurity last year, and hasn't shown anything this preseason to predict otherwise for this year, Boston was injured all last year and was a problem child before that - hasn't produced since 2001, 4 years ago. McMike is one of the top TEs, but outside of him and Ricky, not much talent on the offense.

the QBs and OL right now are terrible. you say "average", but that is being a homer. ask any other fan of another NFL team how good our Qb's are. yeah. unless frerotte does extrodinarily well this year, we have no clout in that department.

Schefter is a wise man, and probably one of the most objective journalists out there. i still respect his comments and opinion, and if we can take the homer glasses off for a second, you can see what he is saying.

Ronnie's signing is huge, because outside of Ricky (who won't be available to us until week 6), we have little to no talent on offense.

on the defense you talk about crowder and roth and other "prospects"... you can't talk about rookies that haven't even played in NFL games and judge them as talent - they still have to prove themselves. they are prospects. Thomas, Seau, Madison, and Taylor are the only real "talent" we have on D right now, and even they are getting up there in years and losing a "step"

don't confuse potential with talent. we DO have a lot of potential, but little talent.

I don't know about you, but I certainly don't find Sammie Morris and Lamar Gordon to be "above average" compared to the rest of the starting backs in the league.
