AJ is indeed improving

Wow...I guess I would have to disagree with those words being printed in reference to A.J. Feeley, ever. And you don't need to count me as an "AJ Hater" or "AJ Lover" either. I think our offense has a chance to be pretty good this season, but I still insist that using those words in reference to AJ's performance in 2004 is just egregious.

Unless you mean he showed glimpses of greatness in the way every quarterback shows glimpses of greatness every time he completes a pass...

Well that's the words the reporter used..I think he's referring to some of the great passes AJ threw last year. Plus he only said "glimpses of greatness"...that can be used on a number of QB's, but the poise against the Pats, no int's and a 4th and 10 pressure throw to beat them with no time left does show well for AJ.

Aj does have the chance to start, some people on this website say he shouldnt have one and he does deserve it. gus does have the edge only because he worked with this O for 2 years, but he is older and has only seen a few decent seasons in this NFL, i hope Gus doesnt start something about that would not feel right. AJ i hope steps up his game from last season and becomes some thing a Drew brees or something

It seems like no one understands the concept that the writer was trying to convey. "Glimpses" is the key word and unless you think going out of the game with a mangled finger, coming back one play later and completing a 30 yard sizzler for a TD, isn't great, then you probably agree with his statement and apparently don't even know it.

Further glimpses could be his toughness, his perseverance, his shouldering of the blame for the QB play even though it takes so much more than just one person to make the passing game a success, his TD on 4th down to give us the win against the eventual SB champions....there were more of course....it's all been argued to death as to how much weight each example may or may not carry and I'm not going to go into that with anyone but, the point is that there were glimpses of greatness if we know what greatness looks like.

....which we all should.

i think its toatally obvious that feeley is the starter; he said who ever plays the best will start i think its pretty fair to say that weve seen what feorotte has to offer he had the chances and showed no greatness even in our situation last year aj showed some greatness

You comparing Feeley to Young now?

No hes not comparing Feeley to Steve Young...but have you ever had a chance to look at Steve Youngs numbers his first two years???

1985 Bucs 5/5 72 138 52.2 935 3 8 56.9
1986 Bucs 14/14 195 363 53.7 2282 8 13 65.5

Started 14 games in 1986 had 8 TD's and 13 INT's with a 65.5 rating.

I wonder..if there was the Internet and a fan forum at that time...how many of you would look at those numbers...and dare to say Steve Young might go down as one of the greatest QB's ever to play the game.

You might have glimpsed Young's games individually and saw their was some potential there. You might have noticed the lack of playmakers around him in Tampa. You might have said...hmm...lets give him a chance.

If anyone remembers that first Quarter against the Bills week 13 last season knows that we had some glimpse of greatness out of him. That first Quarter had me making comparisons to Dan. He was simply amazing for 15 minutes...sure the rest of the season was crap, but for that 15 minutes he was a pleasure to watch.

From last year's performance, there was no where to go BUT up. There is no way he could get any worse.(well, maybe)
Either way, because of Gus' knowledge of the offense and the fact that he has better skills simply doesn't bode well for AJ starting this season. Saban WILL go with the better player. Not who cost the most in terms of money and draft picks (as some have adamantly suggested).
Feeley, at best, will learn behind Gus this year and maybe start next year. We'll see. Just my opinion.

He can't be too bad. My team in madden 2005 is undefeated with him at QB. He throws beautiful passes and looks like Marino on my team. :D

You can't base a QBs potential on a quarter of football.

And I would turn around and say you can't base it on half a season either...

And I didn't say anything about his potential...I said that was a glimpse of greatness...not that he would be great...

Don't go trying to put words in my post that are not there...

Look at Gus's numbers in his starts with Minny in Linehan's offense. You are telling me Feeley showed better "glimpses of greatness" in his best starts than Gus did in those? Feeley only had 3 games last year that he beat Gus's CAREER rating...

AJ hasn't shown more than Gus...he has shown glimpses...but he has shown a lot more glimpses of being terrible also. This year will be the test.

To be honest I hope Sage gets just as fair of a shot. He was a higher prospect coming out of college and has been in the same boat as Feeley for being stuck behind other QB's. What about AJ says he deserves more of a shot than Sage?

I'm with you on the whole Sage thing...I feel like he has been slighted during this whole process...since he arrived here he hasn't been given the proper shot to become the starter.

Looks to me like you were harping an awful lot on that 15 minutes. even compared him to Dan. I didn't put words in your post. They are all already there.

Feeley showed glimpses of ability, not of greatness. Every QB throws a near perfect pass every now and then. Even Jay Fiedler threw 3 or 4 "great" passes over the course of his career (most of them came in the Dallas Thanksgiving game). From what I saw of Feeley last year I really think that given time he will develop into a very good QB for us. However, I sincerely doubt he will ever be listed among the "great" ones.
