AJ is indeed improving

Touche'...................However I feel we'd be in bigger trouble if Gus is the starter then giving AJ a fair shot(younger) Believe me I'm all for replacing AJ if he can't cut it(I think he can),but let's at least give him that shot..IMO

Not unlike Feeley.

The ONLY reason Gus has the advantage is because of his knowledge of the new offense. I really like Feeley, but I will be fair, I know he has to earn the job, and he has to work for it, nothing will be handed to him, but Feeley did improve at the end of last year and he will take that momentum into this year and in my opinion he has the talent to be the starter, and I think he will be come September.

I'd say the whole team showed improvement at the end of last year.

No hes not comparing Feeley to Steve Young...but have you ever had a chance to look at Steve Youngs numbers his first two years???

1985 Bucs 5/5 72 138 52.2 935 3 8 56.9
1986 Bucs 14/14 195 363 53.7 2282 8 13 65.5

Started 14 games in 1986 had 8 TD's and 13 INT's with a 65.5 rating.

I wonder..if there was the Internet and a fan forum at that time...how many of you would look at those numbers...and dare to say Steve Young might go down as one of the greatest QB's ever to play the game.

You might have glimpsed Young's games individually and saw their was some potential there. You might have noticed the lack of playmakers around him in Tampa. You might have said...hmm...lets give him a chance.

Those numbers are hardly terrible, even in Young's first two years. That equates to 6.8 yards per attempt in '85 and 6.3 in '86. So even in his first two years, and with a lousy team, Young was at least one yard per attempt superior to A.J. Feeley of last year. Young, BTW, ended up with a phenomenal 8.0 yards per attempt for his career.

Plus remember pedigree. Early evaluation. The Feeley apologists who are reaching for Steve Young stats or comparisons are way off. Steve Young was a star at BYU and a high priced bonus baby for Los Angeles in the USFL. A.J. Feeley is a liftetime also-ran in the eyes of everyone other than Rick Spielman.

Miami's QB position is in dire straits either way. Feeley's potential has been bottled up since high school, and Frerotte had a few decent years in Washington, last decade.

It should not be a question and to be honest I dont think it is a question anymore. Feeley is young with a ton of upside. Ferotte is on the outs of his career and was brought in because he knows the system so if AJ were to go down, our season in not necisarily over.

A bit on topic, if any of you were expecting Brock Berlin to come in and make some noise in minicamp, sorry, he didnt

Gus was NOT brought in to be a back up. Gus was told and it has been stated many times that it is a open competition. The best man will get the job. If AJ gets the job we will have to go find a REAL QB next year, but we are rebuilding so we have a year to see who will be the QB of the future. We now know from last year that it ISN'T AJ. Jay played behind the same O-line AJ played behind and earlier in the season when it was worse, and had a higher QB rating, and higher TD/int rating. So if AJ is a starter Jay was a superstar. Maybe we can trade AJ and a pick and get Jay back. :shakeno:

He is getting his shot, it is called TRAINING CAMP!!! If he can't win the job, it shouldn't be giving to him. Look at what Rich Gannon did at the end of his career, Gus could be our Rich Gannon alot easier than AJ could be our Young.

I think if AJ starts at the beginning of the season, there is a good chance hed get off to a rocky start (by rocky start I dont mean COMPLETELY SUCKING...just stupid mistakes) and if Saban keeps him the starter I really believe we'll come out of the season 9-7 or better.

I can't believe that we are in the position to have a carreer backup leading our team again. Uh Gus sucks.

LMAO, what do you think AJ has been his ENTIRE career, even in college. AJ is the definition of backup.

Also I agree that Feeley is not "guaranteed" anything and I too want the best QB to start whether its Frerotte or Feeley. I am simply stating my impressions of what will play out in training camp. As for everyone having an equal shot that is what you would expect a coach to say in our situation.

Saban, like anybody else in his position, is going to have an idea of who he wants to start and he's going to let training camp play out to either reenforce his view or change it.

I just don't believe he would have gone into the season thinking that Frerotte was going to be his starter.

Then you haven't been listening to what he has been saying.

More like pre-season, which is 5 games this year (we need all of them)Don't forget last year when Jay had spent the last 5 yrs. running the Dolphin O and last it was still so close to name the starter (Jay) which didn't last to long.

I am not about to search the web for quotes from two years ago. I am assuming that you have been following football for more than one year and if you have you will remember that Feeley was considered the best young prospect available.

Let me get this straight. You are saying you heard that there were GMs saying that AJ Feeley was a better prospect than Carson Palmer, Daivd Carr, Joey Harrington, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and Eli Manning. Is this what you heard, read, dreamed, saw, or felt after a long night of hanging out is Rickys tent smoking weed.
Dude, every GM is the league was rolling around laughing at us for giving up a 2nd round pick for a 3rd string QB. Man, the Colts can't even get a 2nd for the Edge and we gave up the 34th overall pick. Even if he plays better and gets to start some of the time, no one is gonna think we made a GOOD trade. We could have got him for less is the point. And shouldn't have gotten him at all.
Are you really AJs mom??:D

One thing that always bothered me was how people used to say Jay should have been so used to the offense b/c he had been here 5 years, but in 4 of those years he got different O cordinators. Now AJ is here and instead of people saying he should know it they are still using the same lame excuse in reverse. It can't work both ways.
True Gus worked under the new O Cord. but which is it that matters, working under the system or with the team? Jay always was expected to play perfectly b/c he played with the same players, now it is the cordinator that matters hmmmm, just food for thought;)
