Alex Smith to visit Miami.

I'm actually getting excited about possibility of signing Alex Smith. I think he'll do awesome in a WCO.

U know all this posturing over signing Flynn really maybe saying alot about what Philbin really thinks of him.

U'd think if he was the Man we'd sign him without all the fanfare by now..........

Smith is intriguing, but I still think Flynn is ultimately going to be the one that gets the job. I still think Flynn can be a success in a Philbin/Sherman offense.

Wouldn't be the Dolphins though if they didn't take a seemingly easy Flynn signing and add a last minute twist.

I'm not sold on Flynn just not big on back Ups from qb friendly systems. Smith is a helluva signing if I'm Ross i offer 3yr 29 million as a middle finger to Harbaugh. I think Smith is fed up with the lack of support from San Fran, it isn't his fault that scrub couldn't holds on to punts

Very serious! Brees never lit it up in SD,, new town fans hungary to win and Bresus is born!

well the year they drafted Phillip Rivers Brees threw 27 TDs and only 7 INTs and followed up with a 24 and 15, but I can kind of see where you're coming from.

I feel like both Smith and Flynn have potential here...though Smith is safer since we already have a feel at what he's at compared to what his ceiling is, whereas Flynn could tank horribly since we haven't seen enough of him.

Expecting to wake up to a Flynn signing I am warming up to rolling with either by trusting Philbin and Sherman we just need a decision soon.

I find it kind of funny how here we have a guy in alex smith who was the 1st overall pick in 2005, has basically stunk his entire career, and last year he has his best season, which was more of playing the role of caretaker than playmaker, and people try and defend him. if he had been drafted by the dolphins 1st overall and this was how he performed throughout his career, people would be crucifying him.

smith is a medicore at best qb, who if u surround with enough talent, like a stout defense like the 49ers had, he can be the qb of a team and go pretty far( still couldnt make the plays to get them past the giants despite the 49ers defense having the game of their life).

also, its funny how people on here cant stop bashing moore, who is by no means great, but has been just as medicore as smith if not better, and had no expectations.

if we brought smith in, fine, but just like flynn, he should not be given the job without competition. we arent talking like the difference between tom brady and curtis painter here exactly. both these qbs, smith, flynn, and moore, are all very similar.

as for the people who bring up his 7 different ocs in 7 years, well i didnt know that, but even so its got to make you think.

it cant be that all those 7 ocs were horrible, but since their coaches take the blame most of the time whether its their fault or not, those guys were the fall guys. im sorry, i just cant buy that 7 ocs came into san fran and they were all so bad, thats not a coincidence, someone else ( cough cough alex smith) had to be a big part of the reason also as to why that offense looked like ****.

Brees had a few more TDs that year for sure. But in Smith I saw a QB hitting his stride in the playoffs, the game had finally slowed down for him. I am telling you the light just came on for this kid!

I like the leverage play here no matter who we sign. Let's get this **** over with. It does kind of make you have second thoughts about Flynn, no?

Some of us does realize there is a development process. As far as the 7 different OCs and systems well they kept getting themselves fired so whats that tell you.

Matt Flynn is an unknown in a lot of respects, but Alex Smith is definitely a known quantity. And what we know is that he's not very good.

you know, looking Alex Smith's career stats, the last 3 years he's gotten better. Heck even when he was in his first few years, he was improving before that collarbone injury that required 2 surgeries because the doctor messed up.

Smith looked decent in Harbaugh's version of the West Coast Offense last year, and honestly probably could have had even better stats if A)Harbaugh wasn't a power running coach and B)His WRs were more consistent/big play guys (there is a reason they signed Randy Moss and Mario Manningham)

Now Smith probably wouldn't be a franchise changer, but he'd be a good guy to hold the fort down.
So, like the best of the garbage QB's we've had over the past decade. One more QB to "hold the fort down."

At this point, I'd rather just stick with Moore and his one year contract that can easily be replaced next year rather than going with either of the QBs available that haven't shown themselves to be any better than Moore, but would have multi-year contracts and cost a lot more.

I'm getting the feeling it's going to be another year with a mediocre QB and no WRs to throw it to.

Sounds like the same type of excuse I've heard for our poor QB play over the past few years.
