All time best Running BAck!!!

My top 5 are: Sanders, Peyton, Brown, Emmit Smith, and Jamal Lewis(he's a future hall of famer)

All time. Difficult because are we saying one game , season , career , playoffs etcc..

- I loved Walter , Barry & Emmitt. Bo was great while he played. So was Sayers.

- But J. Brown avg. 100 a game. That's a tough arguement.

- If I had to pick one , and one that I saw play , it's the Tyler Rose: Earl Campbell. The best that I ever saw.

Barry Barry and Barry for my first selection. Walter 2nd. Jim Brown third......

Jamal Lewis isnt even in the same league as Eric Dickerson. not even as good as marcus allen or marshall faulk for that matter.

Even though i've never seen him i gotta defer to Jim Brown. the best i've seen is Barry Sanders over a long period. For about 3-4 years, Eric Dickerson was the best, better than Payton, imo.

in fact, i think at the at their absolute best, Dickerson is better than all of them, even barry

Emmit Smith is surely a HOF'er but not fit for the top 5 of all time.

I so disagree on that. Emmitt was one of the biggest money players in NFL history. When the chips were down, Emmit showed up big!

Jim Brown, Walter Peyton, Barry Sanders.

I think Barry Sanders was the best running back he could of had all the records...but he retired :shakeno:

I'd have to say 2. These for me are the best IMO to ever play the game they certainly have to be the best

1. Walter Payton
2. Gale Sayers

these are the best backs Chicago had and in my eyes the best and Cedric follows these 2 backs as the best in Bear history and in the NFL

Good, but my list would be...

1. Jim Brown
2. Walter Payton
3. Barry Sanders
4 O.J. Simpson
5. Gale Sayers
6. Emmitt Smith
7. Curtis Martin
8. Eric Dickerson
9. Bronko Nagurski
10. maybe Thurman Thomas

i personally think Smith is a little over rated. he was a tough runner and had good vision i'll give him that. But the Cowboys blocking was so good it was almost unfair. he routinely got 5 yards before anyone touched him. he played behind arguably the most dominate offensive line of all-time, certainly of his era. i think emmitt was a compiler to a great extent. his touchdowns all came within 1-3 yards so the record should go to the O-Line

i remember watching a tape of the cowboys-49'ers NFC championship ('92? '93?) and watching Rickey Watters make great runs to get 5-7 yards and by contrast Emitt just running in a straight line and falling forward for 9 yards. Watters looked like the better back (of course he isnt, just making a comparison)

Barry Sanders.

Old timers say that Bronco Nagurski and Jim Thorpe were as good as Jim Brown.I dont know but Jim Brown was the best pure RB I have ever seen.

Barry Sanders was a natural and had great field vision.

Gale Sayers was a natural but could be considered a flash in the pan because of his short career.

As a finfan I must add that Larry Csonka deserves consideration as well.
Other favorites Emmett Smith,Walter Payton.

Having said that it is difficult to compare RBs from different eras.

Here's another name that hardly ever gets a mention....

Marion Motley was one of footballs first black players. My father always mentions his name when talking one of the best. To this day he holds the record for yards per carry in a game, at 17 yards a carry!!!
