Again I'm going to sound like a broken record, but sometimes a slam dunk candidate on paper is anything but a slam dunk candidate. Read how excited everybody here was when we signed Bill Parcells.
And as I look back at the Parcells time, he was not completely wrong with everything. He understood you need a stout defense to stop the run. He understood that on offense, you have to have a running game or you're dead in the water. He passed on Matt Ryan, which in retrospect, was not a mistake because Ryan is not elite imo, and never will be. We had a lot of youth. We should have slowly rebuilt and had great drafts. Instead, Pennington unexpectedly popped in our lap and created wins we wouldn't have had otherwise, and we slid down in the draft. Then the wildcat racked up a bunch of wins. With these artificial wins, it set back the franchise.
The good thing about firing Ireland and his staff is that we have a new start. Ireland hired a bunch of FA players on the offense because he had to save his job. Spent a bunch of money. It didn't work out for him, and now we have a new start.
