are we getting any comp picks this year?

Its happen many times. When the ravens released all those high paid starters they got 4 extra picks. There are no rules what so ever this is somethign the league decides on its own.

if that is the case we should get like 2 picks just for having the balls to release our whole Oline :)

Yeah released players do not count. A few years back everyone thought the saints would've gotten compensation for losing La'roi Glover, when in fact, we didn't because we didn't pick up his option....making him a UFA.

Look, you obviously have absolutely no clue what you're talking about so please quit acting like it. Released players do NOT count & have NEVER counted in determining compensation picks.

The Ravens were awarded the 4 picks because they lost true UFAs Lional Dalton, Corey Harris, Pat Johnson, & Duane Starks while signing no one. Who else did they lose that year? Rod Woodson, Carnell Lake, Sam Adams, Shannon Sharpe, Elvis Grbac, Qadry Ismail... Notice their names aren't listed.

Thank you.

No they don't. Released players do not count. That's a fact. You have to be a true UFA in order to count.

Not that you need me to back you on this, but you are exactly right. We gained the same number as we lost LAST year and therefore the odds of us getting any comp picks is very low.

The ONLY time we have received comp picks with a net gain in FA signing the prior year, was the year after we lost Vincent. Coleman, Cox and Fryar. We ended up a +2 that time, but the guys we signed for the most part were 2nd and 3rd tier types.
We got 3 comp picks at the end of rnd 3 in 97, b/c of losing those guys. Remember both Vincent and Coleman were transition players, which probably factored in to the comp picks we got.

Last year our losses in the Free Agent System were:
Desmond Clark
Jermaine Haley
Paul Miranda
Brent Smith
Marcus Spriggs
Jed Weaver

those are the ONLY ones who counted as losses

The additions were
Marco Battaglia
Terrell Buckley
Sammy Knight
Charlie Rogers
Derrius Thompson
Jeff Zgonina

Those were the ONLY ones who counted as additions
thru the Free Agent System
That is a net gain/loss of zero, so do not expect any comp picks this year.

Jermaine Haley don't count because we didn't match the offer sheet from the redskins. The Dolphins recieved a 7rd draft pick for not matching.

Haley was traded to the Redskins. The contracts of the UFAs we signed dwarf those of the ones we lost.

We got 4 in last year's draft. Click on the link I posted.

Check your sources.Haley was RFA.The Dolphins didn't match the offer and the received a 7rd pick from the Redskins.
The Dolphins never traded him.
The Dolphins got a 7rd pick from the Skins because the Dolphins put the minimum tender on Haley resulting in only recieving a 7rd pick where Haley was drafted.

Haley was lost through the parameters of the Free Agent System.
a RFA who's offer sheet was not matched.
Just b/c we did not match an offer sheet is not relevant. Same as when KC doesn't match on Tait. They'll get a comp pick in 2005.
Haley still counts as part of the net gain/loss of system free agents.

FWIW, I got the list of Free Agents from the team Media Guide.

Yes, but our Free Agent net gain/loss from 2002 was minus 6, which is why we got 4 comp picks in 2003
2002 only signing was Chester. Losses were Mixon, Bromell, Walker, Smith, Turk, Cousin and Folau.

The point I was making is that normally the ONLY way a team gets comp picks is by having a net loss of system free agents the year prior. The only time this has not held true for us was when we lost Vincent, Coleman, Cox and Fryar in 96 and signed 6 system free agents, Stubbs, Barnett, Jordan, Mike Buck, Cal Dixon and Robert Bailey. We had a +2, but due to quality, contract size and/or the transition labels on 2 of our losses, we got 3 comp picks in 1997.

And if you are correct that an RFA loss doesn't count when figuring comp picks the following year, then we definitely won't get any b/c that makes us a +1 in net gain/loss rather than zero.

First of all, again Haley counts. He was lost as part of the free agent plan and thus he is computed.

We COULD get one low rated pick however. There have been teams in the past who showed a net gain/loss of zero but when the "quality" was measured by the NFL ouija board it was determined there was a net loss. I think such an award is unlikely however in that two of our signees, Knight and Thompson both started. Our only chance is if they look at Battaglia not even trying to make the team. Then we could get one.
