If he's better then McCown, why wouldn't you want him here? Especially if there's a chance McCown starts?

Both Beck and McCown have a chance to start, i'd simply rather have Beck start. From what i've read so far seems like Beck has the upper hand in the situation. To sign Pennington this late in the game just doesn't make sense to me if you plan to have him start. Our qbs have been practicing since what? april? I'm sure our offense isn't the same as the jets offense, and im not too sure how quickly a guy like pennington could pick up a whole new offense this late in the game. just doesn't make any logical sense to me. especially if you already have a guy on the roster is of similar caliber.

Maybe because the Jets GM is doing Tuna a favor (Tuna mentored him) just like Jerry Jones did by giving away almost half the staff and players to him.

Tannenbaum isn't doing Parcells any favors. They play in the same division and he's been trying to one-up Parcells all off season. Was he doing Parcells any favors when he stole Calvin Pace out from under us?

I'm for it. We're not giving up a draft pick, so it's a low risk/high reward type of thing with me.

Just curious to see how many of us are actually FOR or AGAINST signing Pennington.

I, of course, am AGAINST.

what kind of question is that! of course, yes! Beck sucks!

Pennington played under Henning before so he will have familiarity with the offense. Maybe he woudn't start the season but would be a very good backup nonetheless.

I am undecided. I have officially joined the camp that believes Chad Henne is the future and the guy we will be building around.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Henne start the season, but that is probably likely not going to be the case. By mid-season though he should be starting. The question is, who should hold the reigns for him until he is ready? Beck doesn't appear to be that guy(though it is still early in the process) and McCown is probably going to do OK, but not light things up.

Adding Chad Pennington to the competition is interesting. Should we sign him? I dunno. Would it hurt to bring him into camp and let him compete? Probably not.

You won't see me dancing in the streets if we sign him, but you also won't see me flipping cars and setting things on fire either.

After careful consideration, I have to vote AGAINST it. I realize he's likely better than McCown but I think the skill level he possesses over McCown is offset by the lack of synergy between Pennington's STYLE and the Miami power running game. This would be different if it were Cam Cameron's offense, absolutely. However, this was set up to be a ground and pound offense with a power running game led by Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. We have tight line splits, a guy in Ernest Wilford we brought over in part because he's a great blocker, our starting TE has been mostly a blocking specialist in his career, our high draft pick left tackle is primarily a run blocker at this stage, the guy winning our RG battle is noted for his straight ahead strength, and Vernon Carey is a powerful right tackle.

This is not anything resembling a finesse or sophisticated, horizontal passing offense. This is bloody, it's raw, it's straight ahead running married with vertical passing to one of the fastest deep threats in the league.

Kellen Clemens was not better than Chad Pennington. And, he's not better than him right now. But, he was still the best quarterback for that offense because his style best fit with the renewed commitment to in-line running and blocking that the Jets made when they paid Alan Faneca and Damien Woody big dollars to come in.

Notice the Packers, for as awkward as that situation was, did whatever was necessary to ensure that Brett Favre did NOT play within the division. What about the Jets and Pennington? Nada. Released within hours, and they don't seem to care a lick if he goes to Miami.

That tells you something.

As always well argued... I just wonder... How does it hurt? It costs nothing but money which we have too much of and to take the argument to its simplest... I just don't agree that Ginn is a bonafied 'deep threat'... YET. while he may have deep threat speed we both know it takes much more than that to become Jerry Rice. I think once he learns to create seperation in the 12 yard patterns and not just 40 he can become the complete receiver that I feel too many (not you necessarily) are crediting him for already. I just feel that adding Pennington does not somehow remove the threat of the deep ball... I am not convinced Ginn is to that point in his development where he truly scares DC's... Again like Sparano I hope that with some good coaching and experience he can reach that point.

ok if he comes in as a back up and takes over the reigns and plays lights out, i will eat crow all day, but as it stands im against. just the idea of pennington in a dolphins uni makes me wanna puke.

no no no i say no we keep getting these scrap qbs from other teams we already have the entire bench from the cowboys come on now lets do something different...

I don't want this in a dolphins jersey anytime soon.

Hahahahhaha, that is ****ing gold, Gold.

True, but he did have a horrible o-line last year. Maybe even worse than ours.
Another interesting fact. He has the highest completion percentage of ALL-TIME with a minimum of 1,500 pass attempts!

When you throw throw the ball 6 yards downfield 85% of the time, how hard is that to accomplish? I love how Pennington has suddenly gone from bum to good starter in the span of 24 hours since Favre was traded to NY.
