boomer,

with the smell of David Bowens being out this season because he won't restructure, does it look like Saban will or could go for a Marcus Spear type player in the first round or third?....after bowens we don't have much depth at the DE position... & whats your take on the DE's in this draft...

Personally if Saban could trade down and get a Spears, a Hawthorne and then a back like Fason in 2 he'd be creaming his jockeys. Pollack is a good fit also. I think it's a good year for ends - James, Roth, etc as well - I also think you'll see a lot of lineman brought in as free agents and there will be a Pats style DL rotation.

What do you mean? Rank them with what and against who? The new lot or the Jones/Jackson/Johnson/McGaghee group?
You say you like the Auburn pair the best (me too), does that mean Benson is #3 in your eyes? Faison 4th? etc.
Could you also compare them to pros currently playing based on skill level and style?
Example:
Brown/Greene
Williams/Dunn
Benson/Ricky
etc.
Great thread. Thanks for all the insight!!

Boomer... How do you really feel about Adrian McPhearson?

LOL! Just kidding. The "eat an onion" comment was hilarious.

But seriously, what are your thoughts on Benson? Is he the real deal? All the mocks have him going to the Fins but I think a lot of that has to do with his comparisons to Ricky. Would he even fit Lineham's system?

I don't mind McPherson, I'm just not ready to annoit a guy that has about 4 starts at a major college and a season and change in Arena Ball, as the 2nd coming. Guy is so raw, he won't see a field till about 2009.

I thuink he would be my third choice, I don't think he has the speed to get to the corner in the pros nor can he create at the 2nd level. I think the top of the draft is so up in the air that he's easy to place there. Don't see it myself. Even if we stay at 2, I don't see him as done and dusted there.

Ah OK, I see. Brown is like Ahman Greene without the fumbling, Not as super quick, but Green to my mind is a legit top 5 back AT WORST in the pros. Williams is more like Portis than Dunn in terms of running style and home run ability. Plays faster than he times, turns up the field like a rocket. BOOM. Gone. Benson isn't nearly as quick as Williams. Fason is like Emmitt Smith - great hands.......I will finish this sooooooon.

Thanks Boomer. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about Benson. Can't wait to read some of your insight in the coming weeks. Keep up the good work!

My pleasure.

Overall consensus is potential. No "sure-fire" hits. Rodgers has potential but a way to go, Smith is more finished, cerebral, but is coming from a gimmick system. Campbell has all the tools and is the most polished and has the experience, but has only managed to perform at that level for a year. Frye is more raw, from a smaller school, Orlovsky is overrated, Greene is underrated and put an onion in your mouth and chew for 25 seconds and that should give you a felling on Adrian McPherson.

I don't think there are any "can't miss" guys. I think Campbell and Smith are the biggest 2.

Thanks Boomer. If we get a 2nd round pick, do we get Campbell?

Don't see it. Too many holes elsewhere mate.

Boomer..What are your thoughts on Darryl Blackstock? If the Fins get a 2nd rounder somehow, do you think he'd draw interest?

And how about that Ware kid from Penn State? I read somewhere that he'd be perfect for a 3-4.

Thanks!

Boomer,
Sorry if it's been addressed, but

What do you think of QB Biehauf (Colorado Mines) 6' 6"?

Is he a perennial backup? Or could he be a "developmental QB" that Saban wants to get? What round will he go in?

Hey Boomer, I have seen some sites state how many reps players have been doing on the bench press. Are these official, or are they just practicing for the real deal.

Boomer,
apologies if this has been asked (i tried a search but saw too much results to sift through)...

when do you think Matt Jones is going to go in the draft, and to where and at what position?

where do you like him going?

how much do you think his combine performance helped him? how much do you think his senior bowl performance will make whatever team drafts him to change him to a different position?

thanks
-the fake fan ;)

Blackstock will likely go in R1. The Chiefs like him a lot at 15, but his 40 time today might hurt. He has work to do at the UV Pro day to make up the lost ground.
