Ask Boomer

Hey Boomer, haven't posted here in awhile, but I got some questions since the combine.

-I heard a lot of great things from the combine and pro days of UCLA WR Tab Perry. He is 6'2" and about 230 lbs. and runs a 4.4 40. What is your projection of him,and do you think he would go sooner rather than later?

-It seems a lot more lately that talk is about drafting either Braylon Edwards,Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers, and with this draft class being deep at RB,it seems a lot more logical.Assuming we get the 2nd round pick for Surtain, depending on when the 2nd rounder is,who would you pick,J.J. Arrington,Ciatrick Fason,Marion Barber or someone else?

-Since the last time I asked you, considering the combine, and the fact that he has gained weight and been working with Warren Moon, what are you thinking of Adrian McPherson now?

Hey Boomer-
Any word on Chris Colmer's medical condition? Did he get the proper medical clearance for teams to feel comfortable drafting him? If so, what's your take on him? If he's available, is he good value for our 3rd rounder? What OL position does he project to in the pro's? Can he handle LT? A good guy to groom as Mcintosh's replacement?

Dear Boomer,

What do you think about Miami's FA acquisitions?

Dear Richmond,

I think they have been solid, if a little surprising in terms of size of the FA class that we have acquired. Frerrote gives us senior leadership, knows the system and can still play; Evans I loved coming out of college, can catch, block and play ST; Cook can play all 3 OL spots and is big - that's a real theme - I tabbed McDougale in an "If I was GM" thread I did a few months ago - I think if Houck can get him playing then he could be really nice. He's a hell of a run blocker. I like Carter opposite Taylor and you know the DL rotation will be large so Holliday makes sense as he can also play DT on 3rd downs. I liked Spragan in Denver and think he will be a nice player for us. I was disappointed we let Morlon Greenwood go, but the money he got was way too much. I really haven't got a handle on Tillman solely because he has been hurt too much and has bounced around clubs. I think Jones is a much more athletic player than Knight who will play closer to the line. He's a hell of a tackler and is much more suited to SS.

Boom,

Did you scout Stockar McDougle in 2000? What were your thoughts about him then? What do you think about the pick up? Thanks.

I did and I thought he could be a very forceful player if he controlled his weight. He hasn't done that enough. He's shown flashes of what I thought he might be capable of, but not enough.

I think the pick-up is excellent. Saban won't allow for his weight to get OTT. I think we'll have a powerful run blocking RT with solid feet.

Boomer, when can we expect your mock draft? Not so much to see if you correctly match the players and teams, but to see how you rank the players at eahc position relative to one another?

Cheers.

think he said he's not doing one this year. he just had a baby or something.

He has said in the past that he will wait until fa is winding down, somewhere around 4-10-05 I'll wager.

Hey Boomer,
What do you make of this?

This is SUNY Albany NY about 10 minutes from where I work. I never would have thought a player from a suny would even get a look. Maybe I should start going to their games.

FOOTBALL’S KURT CAMPBELL WILL PLAY IN LAS VEGAS ALL-AMERICAN CLASSIC

Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany’s Kurt Campbell has been selected to play in the Las Vegas All-American Classic, an all-star game for graduating seniors. The game, which will feature 110 student-athletes divided into East and West teams, is in its second year at UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, January 22, 2005.

Campbell, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound roverback from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., made 34 tackles, including 2.5 for losses, plus added three pass deflections and one fumble recovery in 10 games played in 2004.

Campbell, one of four captains on this year’s UAlbany team, earned his fourth varsity letter this season. He finished his collegiate career with 120 tackles and 19 pass break-ups. Campbell is the first Great Dane to appear in a postseason all-star game since offensive tackle J.T. Herfurth played in the 2000 Hula Bowl.

The Las Vegas All-American Classic, previously known as the Paradise Bowl, will include a NFL-type skills and measurement combine for professional scouts in attendance. The all-star contest will be aired on Fox Sports Net. More television information will be released as it becomes available.

Hello mate. Tab Perry was a hugely rated talent out of high school but he's never quite put the whole package together. He was suspended for a season after being academically ineligible, which has hurt his stock. Coupled with some injuries - collapsed lung, etc - this hasn't helped. But he's big and physical, good hands, good routes, etc and is a very good return man, but you'd like to see him in th eendzone more. - he only had 6 touchdowns as a receiver at a major Pac 10 school - that's pretty poor. And just 22 grabs last year was disappointing. His YPC is always pretty high and his speed at Indianapolis was a real eye opener as he doesn't look that fast when he plays. I think he has excellent potential and could be a really nice NFLer but he has to do more considering the tools he has. Would ber a nice complimentary 2 or 3 for someone. I think he'll go off the board in the 3-4 area.

If we got a 2nd round pick for Surtain I would look at Marion Barber or Fason. I would like, if that happens, to see us shift down in 1 to collect extra picks. Whilst there is plenty of Ronnie Brown talk, don't be at all surprised if we draft Carnell Williams at 2. Not saying it will happen, but Saban has never been a fan of the single runner doing all the work. At MSU it was Duckett and Little John Flowers, at LSU he inherited Toefield and Davis and he recruited Broussard and Vincent.....smaller guys with bigger counterparts. Williams with Gordon as a 1-2 is a real option. And look at Linehan's offense.....Mewelde Moore, Bennett, the kid who got booted from Tennessee whose name escapes me that they got in R4, etc with Mo Williams. We'll see what happens.

My opinions on McPherson haven't changed. I'll be interested to hear the story from his workout this week at the high school in Bradenton.

Hope that was what you were looking for?
Boom.

I don't know that he got clearance to be honest and if he did at what status. He has/had Parsonage Turner Syndrome for which there is no cure and coupled with a number of other injuries it has teams worried - broken wrist, back injury that forced him to miss a lot of last season, shoulder tear, fractured right foot, etc.

He's very aggressive and an excellent run blocker, but he has some footwork issues as a LT. I think he's a RT at the next level and should be a good one as long as he gets the all clear and keeps on top of the PTS.

I will do one probably very close to d-day if I do one at all. Paul B and I do one that we compare in the last few days but mock drafts are fools gold. You NEVER get it right and always end up looking a doofus because you simply don't know what a team will do when it gets on the clock. Plus there are things like trades that you can't foresee. For example Travis Henry won't be a Bill at the end of April 23rd. That will effect R1, be his final destination Miami, Arizona, Chicago or Tampa.

Probably later. Maybe even 2/3 days before the draft if at all. Like I said to Surf, they are fools gold. :)

Hey, Is there any team willing to trade for our 2nd overall pick?

Who knows. I doubt that there have been any serious discussions pertaining to that. Some very discreet feelers may have been put out in Hawaii but things will hot up in the week leading up to d-day and it may not even get hot till we get on the clock. I'm not sure who would want to move up and for whom, but we shall see.

Sorry I can't be a bigger help.
