Baldy's break down of Tua for preseason raiders game

Tua has shown a certain throw that dives down to the receiver over coverage but has more zip than the arc would suggest. As if it had top spin, though I know that's not how a football works. That's the one he needs for those guys that find 2 steps of space in all directions, as the top of screen receiver did in the video. If he has that throw in his arsenal he would not need the TE checkdown.

Yeah, I agree, but I happened to watch the play again today and I'm leaning toward cutting Gesicki a little slack because it looks like the defender made contact with him right before he got his head around. He still has to catch that ball. That's the type of play Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews make all the time.

That is a major issue with Gesicki. Every little contact and he thrown of his route. He is 6'6 250 but plays like he is 5'10 150.

I have such a love/hate when it comes to Gesicki. I love that he is a good player, but hate that he is only a good player. Guy is such a physically gifted player he should be an absolute stud.

What are the groups thoughts on that Gesicki pass? IMO over the middle has been a weak point at times for Tua…sometimes his footwork seems off under pressure and he has made some errors over the middle.

On that Gesicki pass, live, it looked like a bad choice. But as Baldy shows, it hit him in the face!!! Granted, that Safety was about to kill him…kind of a hospital pass.

What do people think? Poor choice? Bad hands? A little of both?

Receivers are expected to go across the middle to catch passes. When they do, they should expect to get hit hard once they make the reception.

Gesicki stated after the game that he didn’t turn his head around fast enough to see the ball before it hit him.

Tua threw a great pass but he can’t throw it and also catch it. It appears Gesicki might not yet have his timing down in this new offense and perhaps that’s why he was still playing long after the regulars were removed from the game.

He's a six-foot QB without an elite/special athletic skill set, that's tough for anyone to overcome.

Unless he makes the jump, Miami is average.

Other than elite accuracy, an elite release, elite anticipation, you know the things that actually matter so much more than whether a a QB is 6'0" or 6'5".

I wouldn't say "we all want Tua to succeed". I've read comments on Youtube where fans are wishing Tua gets hurt so Skylar can play. That's just crazy to me that fans would wish injuries on any player on a team you root for especially before the season even starts.

Those same fans will be calling for Thompson to get hurt once they realize that Thompson will never be anything more than a backup QB in the NFL. It’s almost hilarious that some people just don’t understand how irrelevant the preseason is compared to the real games.

Jarrett Stidham looked like an all pro QB against the Dolphins defense that had a lot of starters in the lineup but no one seriously thinks Stidham should replace Carr as the starter.

Totally agree about the backhanded, off-topic bashing that goes on. A lot of it seems just plain mean spirited. No reason to twist the knife in unrelated topics.

As far as threads being solely for positivity, though, that, to me, is a bit of a "circle jerk" mentality. I'm not saying it's OK to just derail an overall positive thread with nonsense, but on the other hand, some of the criticisms are valid, and impetus for worthwhile discussion, as long as ppl have open minds. Even so, human nature being what it is, requesting that only positive posts be made in an OP is really just an invitation to trolls to infuriate ppl for kicks.

The only way around that is to start thread banning ppl for the simple reason that they do not share the same opinion, and that's a little extreme on any fan forum.

Dissension in an open forum is fine. But once those views have been shared and even re-shared a few times (among many threads) there comes a point where it becomes trolling.

In a situation where someone creates a new thread dedicated to discussing a positive, it’s poor form to jump in that thread to dredge up negative opinions that have already been expressed and argued over. That’s trolling and has been done quite a bit here.

Of course the reverse is also true when someone creates a legit criticism thread and someone jumps into that thread to overwhelmingly push a non-negative POV to the point of even ridiculing others for not drinking the same kool aid.

Banning is extreme, but there’s no reason posts can’t be edited or removed when this practice occurs, just as they are for personal attacks.

That’s actually an insult the the word “dumbest”. That take supersedes dumb. There’s no validity to it at all. It’s asinine. And before anyone chimes in to say everyone is entitled to an opinion, they need to acknowledge that not all opinions are created equal. Some are far more educated and fact-based than others.

I mean, I can have the “opinion” that the sky isn’t really blue but red. Is that an opinion or just baseless and wrong?!

Marino's "quick release" was admired by the league, commentators, coaches, players, all of 'em. Tua's is faster.

The difference is that there are specific forum rules against one, but not the other. The best way I've found to stop actual "trolling" is to not engage and feed them. I also do not hold the view that expressing a difference in opinion is necessarily trolling.
