Barry Jackson Sports Buzz 3/16/14

I heard all week how the DT's are undersized and yet the solution for some is to bring in an undersized MLB? Strange.

If he plays even close to what he has his whole career excluding last year due to injury we will have two #1 corners. Not to mention he is a tough guy and can lay some good lick as well as Delmas who can , and Jones who can, and Grimes has laid a few of his own. This secondary will be tough to play against and make receivers think before they catch the ball about who is gonna hit them and how its gonna feel.

We went from a bad secondary to a good one last year. With who we have now we can go from a good secondary last year to a top secondary this year.

Reading some of the posts in this thread one would think some of you never saw Finnegan play prior to his injury plagued year last season...If he stays healthy this year we could very well be talking about him next year the way we feel about Grimes now.

I have to agree with this. Some of the higher percentage of completion and higher YPC after he joined St Louis can be attributed to horrible safety play there. The way Fishers plays his CBs on the LOS requires decent coverage by the safeties, which they never had. Couple that with hamstring issues, and recovery time is not there. The PFF stats on completion percentage against CBs are incomplete and misleading. Its not like Finnegan suddenly lost his football instincts or became unathletic. When you see big changes in production going from one team to another, it probably has a lot more to do with scheme and the players around him on the new team.

i'm not the biggest borland guy myself but he is 5 ft 11 and 245 lbs...so he's not as undersized as one would think...and i don't necessarily think it's the solution i just think it's more likely the route they will go...the mike

his instincts though make up for some of that lack of size i'd say...and not elite level athleticism

The same comments were made about Zack Thomas. So he is 3" shorter than Ideal for a MLB. Big Deal.
Borland would make this defense better. No question in my mind.

and he run his mouth a lot on the field- he's an obnoxious player, and that's not my preference

but, he was always able to back up that mouth with his play. were not talking some scrub. 90% of nfl players run their mouths. some can back it [deon sanders, shannon sharp, ndomican su] some who cant [to long of a list].

and AS FAR AS NOLAN CARROLL goes, ANYONE who thinks finnegan, even on his death bed isnt better than him is goofy. i dont know what happened to him in st. louis, he had an injury [everyone acting like he has been some career injury bug] and sometimes that DOES play a part, but he has always been in good shape. i dont see him forgetting how to play in a year and a half.

and AGAIN, i ask everyone, who on the rams played great last year? there was a whole lot of stink and finnegan wasnt the sole turd. not by far.

if he cant play [which i highly doubt] then he will be gone. same as delmas. PEOPLE DO NOT SEEM to see whats happening. hickey is looking at the bottom of the roster and seeing who can be improved on. and i imagine he looked at delmas and finnegan and said finnegan can bring more than nolan carroll [who still stank] and delmas would easily out play guys like jimmy wilson who should have followed clemmons out the door. we have seen all these players for years, jimmy wilson, nolan carroll, chris clemmons...... and those guys were not ever getting better and what they have wasnt good enough to build a contender with. another thing, in ANYTHING, your only as good as your weekest link and that is why billichek and the tuna always say, CHURN THE BOTTOM OF YOUR ROSTER, upgrade where you can. we stood pat on many players who should have been churned out over the years instead of seeing if someone else can play better.

i dont have any problem with what hickey has done. churning the roster giving decent, cap friendly deals to players who have better track records than ones we have had [for way to long].

It's deep draft in Many positions of need for Miami. O line , lb, secondary, WR, even TE.

IMO we have to take the BPA at oline, lb or secondary with our first pick. I would be happy with Martin, Moseley, Shazier, Lewan, Pryor, Dennard, Clinton-Dix with our 1st pick.

We have to go ol, lb, secondary with our first 3 selections IMO.

Buff - No cheap comments about the Sharks getting mauled last night - sounds like a long season ahead.
However, there are huge raps for the Offensive Guard, Xavier S'ua Filo from UCLA. Everything I see makes him sound like an absolute can't miss prospect. I haven't heard a Guard attract such kudos before - he's built like an armored tank. I don't watch enough UCLA football to make a valid comment but if XSF is anywhere near as good as they say and he's still on the board, he's a very strong consideration.

I see Zach Martin as a sure fire pro Bowl pick...I liken him to another Dolphin from Notre Dame who also was a pro bowler at both guard and tackle...who should be in the hall of fame...Bob Keuchenberg!

Prior to reading this article, I was skeptical that Finnegan was better than Carrol or Patterson. After reading the article, it seems to verify that. Odd signing unless they expect Taylor or Davis to make huge strides.

They're not paying Finnegan $5.5m per to ride the bench.

I do as well. I'm starting to think he is not going to be there when we pick.
