He could lose just about everything.bigmiamifan said:You file for bankruptcy, fine, but don't you have to sell off a certain amount of your possessions to creditors? I know he sold some assets, but what about his bank accounts? Can't we freeze them or something? Doesn't he have a house?
Why do you think a signing team would have to pay Miami anything?Section126 said:Why do I have a feeling that RW will UNRETIRE?
BTW.....if we lose his rights..we would still get the money..because any team signing him would have to pay us the money first......
It doesn't matter anyway because we are not losing his rights.
i disagree. he did give us two years, but he came to us when we had a capable, 1000-yard RB (not great, but very capable), and an established game plan and team structure. we changed the whole system for him, didn't draft a RB or anything to mold the system around him. So if he leaves, we are screwed.GoPhins! said:That sounds fair to me. He did help us for two years. Everyone is just hurt now because of the way that he did us this year.
Yes, IT CAN. Its not a automatic, but it can be ruled.Section126 said:For the last time.....Filing Bankruptcy does not get him off the hook for his rights......

The team signing RW has no dog in the hunt. If RW is granted FA, then he is a FA. Any money sent to Miami will come from RW, not the other team.
Correct. Filing does not get you bankruptcy. It is granted.GoPhins! said:Wouldn't a bankrupt hearing take into account that he is refusing to work and is capable of making millions of dollars a year. As opposed to most people the file who are not making jack squat. You would think that the judge would have some leaway in this situation and could rule that miami can keep his rights. Just because Ricky files does not mean that they have to grant everything that he asks for does it?

The Dolphins organization blew it by not protecting him with a skilled offensive line that could protect him from a crippling injury that could hamper him for life. When they refused to address this...I don't blame the man for retiring....I don't think anyone would want to work in an environment that provides great chances for tremendous injury no matter what the salary is supposed to be.
To drive him to retirement and than go after money he has earned is just not the way any organization should treat their employees. If you don't think this treatment of Ricky will hurt this organization for years to come, you are wrong. It will enter into the back of every free agent's mind and other teams will turn this seed into a tree.
If RW is granted FA from Miami. Then there is nothing tying him to Miami.Dol-Fan Dupree said:I would think you would have point if Ricky Williams loses all eligibility to work for the NFL. The way the NFL looks like it works to me, is that Ricky Williams is an employee of the NFL and his rights belong to Miami. Which is one of the reasons why his signing bonus from the Saints goes to Miami as well.
no way dude, so he could retire in a year? hes NOT going to stop smoking. he would just be suspended and suspended. no way, get rid of fiedler, sign a premiere OT and a RB.fish2004 said:Who's willing to forgive poor Ricky now...I am. I know this is wrong and it sets a terrible example but I would take him back after all this. He is a premier back (one that we searched high and low for and one we will probably not see for some time again) and we suck royally on offense.
My moves....Fire Wanny, cut both Fiedler, bring back Ricky at minimum wage...get a line next year-then we are in the SB. :)

He would be free to sign with anyone. Miami would simply be out. The NFL might give Miami a draft pick or something, but that would be about it.

I do not think RW will be granted his, since he quit and broke his deal.
I think the courts will see this. It would set a bad precedent.

To make a long explaination short... if ricky files chp 7 bk we'll get probably nothing and lose his rights. He said chp 11 is would be a lot harder for RW to file. He went on to say the NFL would have no say... Bankruptcy is the same no matter how you slice it... it's the law and the NFL can't change that.
