Brees: "....either Philip or I will stay next year, and one of us will go"

What about Gates?
Gates snagged 13 tds last season i know but if ya compare to the 2003 season Fiedler had Ricky who got 1000+ season as well as Chambers who grabbed 11TD's. Fiedler still didnt shine where as i think Brees has done well last season and he has room to do it again. With Fielder there was always the "out performing himself" syndrome.

By the way, I never said anything about fielder. And if your arguement is that brees is better than fielder then I agree. It doesn't mean I still don't think he is a one year wonder.
I think with LT and Gates he will do it again but with one yrs experience under his belt playing as he did last season he will get better. just my opinion. Rivers may be too much of an unproven risk if Brees has another season like last.

It's a lot easier to hit a big TE than your #1 wr. That is why so many young qb's rely so heavily on them. When you have gates who seems to be the next Gonzalez, it can make an avg qb look like probowl material. LT also catches out of the backfield better than ricky did.

Stop making me defend fielder.

agreed about the TE thing. Look what stats MacMike had last season with Feeley who supposedly "sucked". Dont u think that Brees or Rivers wud upgrade our team? Either one would be an upgrade concerning the future IMO. There were a serious amount of posts here last season saying we wanted Brees or Rivers in the draft.

I think A.J.'s performance this year will determine whether or not we go QB shopping in '06, whether we go after Brees/Rivers, or draft one with our first pick.

I don't follow college as closely as NFL. From what I heard, he should be a very good QB in the pros. But college is a different game. What I do like about him though, is the fact he isn't demanding a trade or crying for playing time. (not like he could with the year brees had).

How you going to feel if we do get him next year, hypothetically?
at first, happy i would get to see him play a few games agenst my bills. that would be cool.

but then after seeing him in a fins uni, i would roll on the ground as if someone had kicked me in the nuts. :shakeno:

I don,t see Saban going with either one of these guys . I think he will look for a QB to work in his system (who knows he maybe on the team now). I don,t see him spending big money on one.

I agree with you....Saban is not going after another QB after Spielf*ck spent a 2nd round pick on one last year......Ferotte may be the QB this year, but Feeley will be given a chance ahead of anyone else after that.

By the way I'm not real happy about that, because Ferotte = Fiedler in my opinion. And we know how that turned out.:shakeno:

well from what i hear around here, the fins will try desperatly to sign the one who sucks. basically the one who is traded/cut after this season.
well we know that Brees doesn't suck he is proven, he put up good #'s and didn't really have a WR until they signed McCardell

IMO, Ferotte < Fiedler

i think that because ferotte played for a diffrent team last season, that people think he must be better than fiedler.

If Ferotte is the QB this year then there is no "after that" for Feeley. Saban will have no choice but to look for a QB regardless of what Miami traded for AJ.

he had a TE and RB who are both probowlers and VERY good. i am interested in seeing if he can have a repeat performance this comming season. cus you have to think that if he plays poorly for 2 strait games, that they will put Rivers in.

Ranked top 10 by whom? We never see where the teams have the players ranked early. Every year media sources and draftnicks come up with their own rankings and then those rankings are adjusted as the media talks to scouts and teams. We have no idea where the scouts ranked Rivers or Smith. For all we know they were at the top of many team's draft boards all along.

You can apply that twisted logic to ANY player in the draft. So what's your point?

I meant that he didn't have a WR which he basically didn't and I think Brees proved himself by taking the Chargers to the playoffs last year

If we're gonna develop another possible "back-up", I think that Rohan Davey would be an interesting proposition. Saban won a National Championship with him and he probably would come cheap.

My point is that all the people who try to denigrate a player by saying a player only moved up the boards late (implying he wasn't worth the selection) are basing it on faulty info. A player's actual draft position generally indicates what teams felt he was worth.
