Brian Baldinger thinks we struck out on daniel thomas

I think the running game stinks right now and believe it's because we didn't have a blocking FB and Clay was hurt, why didn't the fins bring back Losaka Polite is beyond me.

Brian Baldinger says it. Well that settles it, Daniel Thomas is officially a bust. Might as well cut our losses now and move on.

Ricky and Ronnie wouldn't have had any success without a FB leading the way...why is it any different for Bush then? New England uses a single back formation they go two two TE and use one to block, why not copy that formation and see if it helps our running game. Hell, Daboll should know this, he was N.E. offensive coordinator, WTF?

Or it could be because our offensive line is awful and has very little to do with a FB.

Let's remember he was a QB in 2009 so he is still learning the running back position, what concerns me is this team does not have a "true" running back on it's roster besides LJ but I'm not even gonna go there, Reggie is a "specialty" back and he is injury prone and has never been known to run between the tackles, it's funny how our coaching staff and front office tout him being the "feature" back but when we get close to the goal-line he doesnt even sniff the rock because were scared he cant get those tough yards, well guess what thats not a feature back, we should of drafted ingram or signed bradshaw, it's funny how the front office wanted to get faster on offense and I applaud them for that but the they completely abandoned the running back position with the personnel moves they have made, we should of re-signed ricky or ronnie for insurance just in case something happens like somebody getting injured(thomas) and what if bush gets hurt? were stuck with d thomas and larry johnson awesome, I'm very concerned about our running game!

I never though i would miss jabbar for us not the best back
but had a nose for the inzone i remember one year he had like 16 touchdowns

i actually understand some of what baldingers talking about there...definitely...but i think he left out that he has sweet feet for a guy that size and pretty good vision and the ability to make a guy miss in tight spaces...

yeah lets give them the benefit of the doubt on this one for now before getting down on the guy. he hasnt even played a game yet. and he didnt look bad in the preseason despite whats been written. the injury is a concern, but he did have a short offseason. if u want to question something, question why this front office didnt bring in another veteran that could carry the load? bradshaw signed for pretty cheap in new york, and there were plenty of guys out there including LJ.

so question why the dolphins traded up to get a running back when clearly their intention was to bring in a guy like bush to be the lead back anyways. with the lack of depth in secondary and problems on the right side of line, maybe some other needs should have been addressed with the picks instead of backup rb

That's what I saw. Lex Hilliard was just as effective, if not more so, than Polite and he's a better ball carrier. We just failed to call his number more than once but there was nothing to run through. The one run that really could have gotten us some good yards (beside the first run for Bush) ended up getting screwed because Chad and Bush weren't on the same play. Chad was trying to hand the ball off to Bush and Bush was just looking at him...confused, and then Chad tried to pitch it too him and he fumbled it and Chad jumped on it. The left side was wide freakin open on that play, Long had moved his guy like 5 yards down the field right off the snap.

single backs the way i'd go...i know that...no point in putting a lead blocker back there when the oline is creating no inside push...use that extra man on the los or as a pass receiving option

thats a bad idea in and of itself...we can't keep running bush between the tackle and expecting results...we're just putting more wear and tear on his legs and its just a matter of time before he breaks down...guaranteed...bush is not a back you can use as a lead runner 10-15 times a game...he's not built for it...his career tells you different but these guys just don't get it...i hope how much we saw him running inside was more a we don't have daniel thomas thing than a this is the way we're gonna use him thing going forward...cause otherwise its gonna end up with us not having reggie bush to send out there...

I think the reason why the FO gave up so much for thomas
was they looked at him as a jack of all trades back that could fill different roles
He did wildcat, catches good for a back, supposed to run between the tackles decent,
Overall i think it was not wise to give up so much for him when you have other holes to fill.

Obviously they thought they needed a diverse back since we were losing the mixture that the R&R express had brought to the table. But was Thomas the ideal fit? And, yes we did give up a lot. Not saying he isn't going to pan out. He hasn't even played yet. But so far not much return on the investment:!

I agree. An extra guy on the LOS is more likely to spread out the defense and help make a hole than a fullback is likely to make one right now.

As for what Baldinger is saying... he points out some of Thomas' flaws but this whole "point of entry" thing is baloney and he ignores, as hoops says, Thomas' great feet and good vision.

That's pretty much what other scouts and NFL Draft Analysts said about Thomas. I didn't like the pick after reading and hearing negative things on him.

I agree he looks bad and that stand up running style is dangerous. The guy he reminds me of though is Marcus Allen. But Allen had vision and could find the hole and was sneaky quick and fast. Thomas just runs a little like him IMO but he's no Marcus Allen.
