ESPN reporter Adam Schefter went on the Mike and Mike radio program on Wednesday and said that the Dolphins face a lot of pressure to draft quarterback Ryan Tannehill with their first-round pick “to at least quiet this perception that has existed that they have been unable to get guys that they targeted,” (Jeff Fisher, Jim Harbaugh, Peyton Manning, even Matt Flynn).Schefter said the Dolphins may have to do whatever it takes to get Tannehill – graded by many as a low-first or second-round prospect – even if it means trading all the way up to the No. 3 pick to get him.“If somebody catapults them in the draft … no matter how much they did or didn’t want Ryan Tannehill, it’s going to look bad for the organization,” Schefter said. That might be true. But host Mike Golic and former Ravens Super Bowl-winning coach Brian Billick both agreed that that would be a terrible reason to draft Tannehill.“If you don’t think he’s a franchise quarterback, that’s not the way to solve your problem,” Golic said Thursday morning on air. “Just because you feel your organization has taken a hit on quarterbacks is no reason to be taking a guy, even at your spot at 8, let alone trading up to 3.” “By saying, ‘We better take a quarterback because people are starting to talk around here that we can’t get a quarterback, so let’s just grab the next quarterback available,’ that’s a bad road to go down.” http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...n-tannehill-just-for-the-sake-of-taking-a-qb/

He is an intriguing prospect, he has great potential, but let’s remember the old saying – ‘Son, your potential is going to get me fired,’” Billick said. “‘Need’ is an absolute terrible evaluator.”

Billick compared Tannehill to former No. 1 overall prospect JaMarcus Russell in that both had tremendous physical skills – Tannehill is 6-4, 221 pounds with a strong arm and good mechanics – but neither played much in college.

I fouind this interesting....

However Billick isn't exactly the best QB equaltor in the world

If they don't feel he is a franchise guy, I agree they shouldn't take him because of image. This just shows how flawed Schefter's thinking is

I dont understand all the emphasis on not playing much in college

not bringing this player up to start anything Jets related but just because he is an example in the division we play twice a year, but as well all know Sanchez had 1 year starting in college (good or bad) regardless it was still 1 season of starting at the college level, even though Tannehill started only a year in college he did start at another position, one that most directly related to the Qb, he wasnt just some scrub extra WR they desperately needeed to fill a spot, he led them in receptions, he was on the field getting experience even though not specifically at the QB spot

lack of experience yes would come into play if he was supposed to be the starter day 1 2012 season, but he will most likely sit

The Dolphins shouldn't draft him in their opinions because when he pans out they can't talk **** about the Dolphins not having a QB anymore.

I don't think Ireland/Sherman/Philbin are dumb enough to draft Tannehill only because of fan pressure or public perception. As the saying goes, if you let the fans in the stands make your decisions, before you know it, you will be sitting with them.

Maybe that's why they are pushing so hard for the trade up, then they can rip the Dolphins for over-paying

I don't really see the Russell/Tannehill comparison. JaMarcus had the work ethic of a slug and an IQ even lower than that. Add in a codine syrup and gambling addiction and you have bad news.

This. If anything I'd feel encouraged about the comparison. Russell had all the tools to be a franchise QB in the NFL, but he was really just an idiot that wasted an opportunity.

We have Sherman. Whatever he says will have a lot more weight than anyone else.

I actually caught that segment and dropped them a fast email asserting that Mike Sherman who knows a little about elite QBs actually coached him, so his opinion trumps most others, whether it's gonna be pro or con. I also used the analogy that had Pete Carroll been on the Jets staff instead of at USC, his stated insight and input might have saved them reaching for who they did.

love the redhead by the way.

On other notes, I just don't get how Tannenhill can start a complex offense right away. Otherwise if he doesn't you would have an 8th overall guy getting paid to be a 3rd stringer. He will not beat out Garrard or Moore for 1 and 2 in that offense.

If Claiborne is as dumb as they say, maybe we need him on the other side. He can start immediately, we'd have the best secondary in the league and that will help our offense immensely. Otherwise we might trade down slightly to pick up a passrusher we really need.

For QBs I love this kid Osweiler. Both started the same amount of games, Brock has a cannon and can legitimately sit for a year to gather the offense. He can run too.

Forget about Tannenhill. More redhead pictures please...

so now that we've established that, let's give three options:
1) available at 8th is Claiborne, Coples, Tannenhill
What move do you make?

2) I have a strong feeling Luck won't want to go to Indy. No real evidence, just a hunch and nobody's talking about it.
If he's available I pull a ditka and trade most of my draft to get Luck. He would be too much to pass up.

Anyone agree with this crazy suspicion?
