Can The Dolphins Contend With The Pats & Peyton This Year?

As much as I dislike the Patriots.....you have to give them credit for their consistency during this Brady era. They have done a good job with a roster that changes a lot each year and they consistently perform at the top of the league.

However, what I saw last year was a Patriots team that we were much closer to in performance than in previous years....especially when you consider our head to head match ups. Aside from winning the last game, we also were the better team in the first half of the first game.....so overall, I think we matched up with them pretty well.

Both teams have improved via free agency. I don't think one is significantly farther improved than the other, so to answer your question...yes, we can compete with the Pats.

The Broncos have gotten much better on defense which is something they needed to do. Their offense was exposed a bit by the Seahawks defense in the Superbowl when they took away a lot of the short and underneath passing game and played very physical with the Broncos receivers. I just don't see our defense...especially the LB's being able to do that. Covering...I think we are fine.....but laying people out as they cross the middle and intimidating the opposing offense with their aggressiveness......I can only dream of that day. I think the Broncos will be a challenge for us.

My two cents on those two teams.....
whats so nuts is that we appeared to match up better w NE than we did Buffalo! That's what the NFL is all about - match-ups. And yeah, quarterbacks.

IMO, we would have to be somewhat similar to Seattle and San Fran, which we are not close to. We are not close to being physical, and finese is not getting it done.
I was thinking along similar lines as I contemplated the NE singings of Revis and Butthead. NE got the memo that they need to get more physical to win another SB (heck, the two they lost they got beaten at the LOS). Meanwhile, we run off signing a washed up 5'9" skinny-loud-mouth corner who's best moment on the field was when Andre Johnson punched his obnoxious mouth in. Delmas isn't a big guy either. I've honestly never watched Fat Albert play but I would have been content w still having a rugged Jake Long manning the LT spot. Our running backs sport female genitals and can't break tackles to save their lives, while our prized FA linebackers from last year tackle everyone forward for an extra 3 yards. This guard we signed is supposed to be a road grader so there's that. But it's like Philbin is trying to replicate the Packers that won 4-5 years ago. If we do not compete well this year Philbin will need to get packing. You can win all different ways - I'm not pissing in our Cheerios at the moment. I'm just stating that we appear to be going the ultra-finesse road while the Pats are doing the opposite - my biggest fear right now is we waste another year being mediocre. That said, I will be rooting hard on opening day, and every game day thereafter.

Oh, and here's to hoping Brady and Manning both rupture their Achilles while stroking each other's egos. I'm sick of watching these guys - be it on the field or in pizza commercials or whatever. Please God make it stop.

As long as you have a train wreck like Philbin at the helm how do you even ask such a useless question, Dolphins had a chance to start anew but let this loser back, who really gives a **** they wont contend, Philbin was never coach material, he didn't even call plays in GB he is not a motivator just a sad excuse for a dolphins coach, its a joke to even pretend we will do better he just doesn't have it and that rubs off on the team

I don't see how we can be ready to win the super bowl this year. We still have plenty of holes.

Ozzy rules!!

I seem to recall that the Pats had to come back against Miami twice and only did so successfully once.

If the new OL is solid and the new OC can use Miami's weapons better than the last one, T-Hill is going to be a very happy QB and all things are possible.

The Pats are loading up with Revis, Browner, and I hear they are after Brit. Denver is doing the same with Ware, etc. They seem to be thinking that they will be butting heads to go to the Super Bowl, and with good reason.

We all know that ya never know how the ball will bounce in the NFL, with injuries and player's play. My question is IF you honestly believe we can compete with, and beat these two teams?

I remember reading years ago that Pat Riley, who has won a ton of titles in the NBA, said that he was building his team for when Michael Jordan retired. That always seemed strange for a guy like him but, realistic.

Are we in the same position f targeting a year or two down the road, while looking for the playoffs but, not the title?

Miami isn't contending until Manning and Brady are gone. Denver has a ton of new talent this year and the Pats are always a 12 win team. Miami can't finish over .500 to save their lives TBH.

Yeah they split but NE still had 4 more wins. Miami needs to not get swept by Buffalo first.

Very true that second one was sweet! I still think if Wallace doesn't drop that TD in that first one we win that game.

Not this year unless brady goes down, but they are nearing the end. Draft well and we compete for a wild card, 2 good offseasons and then we can talk super bowl participation.

Pats just pulled way ahead of us last week

Any given Sunday, right?

The Dolphins need to win the games they should win to put themselves in a position to beat those teams when it counts. Stop playing down to the level f your competition!!!!
