After the New England Patriots released wide receiver Chad Ochocinco earlier this month, it was believed that the veteran never really grasped the offense during his one season with Tom Brady & Co. Ochocinco had just 15 receptions for 276 yards and a touchdown, with just six of those receptions coming during the final 11 weeks of the season.

In his always fantastic Sunday Notes column at The Boston Globe, Greg Bedard reports that upon signing with the Miami Dolphins, Ochocinco admitted that he did not grasp the Patriots' playbook.

"The guy did all but admit that it was a struggle for him mentally, the playbook, all that stuff," the source told Bedard. "He didn’t deny that it was a problem for him, learning it up there."

The Dolphins run the same risk and head coach Joe Philbin acknowledged during last week's minicamp that Ochocinco was behind after missing seven of the nine installation sessions. Still, the addition of Ochocinco is a low-risk, high-reward signing.

Even before he was released by the Patriots, he still had the same speed and explosiveness that made him one of the game's more productive receivers. Early reports from Miami indicate the same.

From a financial perspective, Ochocinco is not guaranteed a nickel until Week 1 of the regular season. If he makes the 53-man roster, Ochocinco will earn the league minimum base salary ($925,000) with an additional $1.075 million available via performance incentives. Bedard notes that Ochocinco will need to catch "a lot of passes" to trigger those incentives. But even if he maxes them out, $2 million for a receiver that catches a lot of passes is a bargain and a price the Dolphins would happily pay.

all i know is just about all the new england media laughed their asses off when they heard we signed ocho...

**** em......

We will KISS with Chad Johnson. We will simply throw him the football when he is open. I expect at least 40 catches this season from Chad Johnson.

Why exactly? The Dolphins got him for the veteran minimum and if he doesn't work out they can cut him at the end of training camp with no financial hit to the salary cap. If he works out then the Dolphins got a good player for the veteran minimum. The Dolphins can't lose in this situation.

The Patriots and their media have no room to laugh at this signing. The Dolphins get him for practically nothing with no real commitment while the Patriots will be paying for Ochocinco for a total of three years. They paid him a salary of $6 million last season, will have a dead cap hit of $2 million this season(they are actually paying more for Ochocinco this year than the Dolphins will) and a $2 million dead cap hit in 2013. On top of that, they gave up a 5th round pick in 2012 and gave up a 6th round pick in next year's draft.

If anything the Miami media should be laughing at the Patriots.

ha ha people are giving me thumbs down for what the new england media did after the signing...this place is too much

i have directv so i have all the regional local sports channels pretty much and in new england they have razzed beli for the ocho signing...new englad media period is hard on people...you guys think miami media can be hard nothing like the north they tear people up daily...and thats a damn good franchise like the pats even

they all said ocho was done when he left new england...i have mirrored that same thing when i have seen him play the last few years...its a cheap signing though and god knows if he can make any wr core and produce it would be this awful one

I know the Madden players don't want to hear this but...

Chad still has to MAKE the team. This isn't a given.

Hard Knocks will put it right out there for all to see.

People are giving you a thumbs down because of the snarky way you presented that fact, not just the fact that you presented it.

You care enough to post about it, so... tell me more about how little you care about something (that you've posted twice about...)

And I'm just enjoying pointing out the obvious so you can avoid the complex, junior.

No bias there right, lol. I wonder if they were crying inside when they failed to mention the $7 million signing bonus Belichick gave him last year. They can laugh all they want, Chad signed for a fraction of what the Patriots paid him, he gets nothing if he doesn't make the roster. We're on the hook for nothing, we gave him no signing bonus but the Boston beat writers aren't talking about that.

no doubt...i think some it was razzing beli for the signing and money in the first place and then some of it was like a ochos not scaring anyone anymore thing...i tend to agree with the latter...i don't think teams are afraid of ocho anymore...

I'm with you 100% on this. It's pretty silly how apparent the media bias is in favor of Miami, isn't it?

Just a shot in the dark based on your posting, that's all.
