Christian Wilkins and the reality of our cap situation

i never claimed i had a source on the team, I said I heard if from multiple places, and it adds up when you consider the Quinen Williams contract and it’s what they were seeking. Believe it, don’t believe it, I don’t care it doesn’t matter to me, it seemed pretty credible to me especially since I heard it from more than one place.

And the 3 yards per carry guys have press credentials and definitely have sources on the team. Alf, Simon, and CK make money covering the team, have one of the best Dolphins podcasts, and have access And were attending training camp and reporting on it daily. Dan Le batard quoted CK just yesterday on his show. Simon (with his press credentials) had a question he asked McDaniel at one of the press conferences at the Chiefs game in Germany go viral and get like 5 million hits or something, Alf attends the press conferences in Miami with press credentials and goes to training camp practices, so yeah, I’m thinking they are reasonably credible sources.
Any single person here can attend training camp brother, I give the TYPC more credence than most, but their not actual insiders who would have any idea as to what the contract was/is/desired.

But to use Omar as a "source" is funny. You literally said "Three different sources, one was the lads from Three yards per carry, the other was Omar Kelly, and I can’t remember the 3rd". That's what I responded to.

what’s the educated guess on if we do franchise him what we could get pick wise? Any chance for a 2nd/3rd? Cant really get a good feel cause that would be huge as much as I don’t wana lose him.

Depends, but its most likely a 3rd in '25. Living without him in '24 just doesn't feel right. Tag and bag or tag and trade.

Find another DL who gets 100 tackles and 9 sacks and I'm good replacing him

Good luck with that
I appreciate Wilkins’ effort, but I’m not paying a DT to do our LB’s job. 80-85% of his career tackles are past the line of scrimmage. Wilkins only had 1 sack on the season vs a winning team and 7 sacks vs the Jets, Pats, Giants and Panthers. I want Wilkins to be a Dolphin, but paying a guy who turns 29 next year over $20M is a pass for me.

They can’t afford to sign him if he is expecting to sign for $24 million a year. He is obviously one of the top DT’s in the NFL but the Dolphins salary cap just doesn’t allow for spending that type money on a DT.

The Dolphins need to keep improving the offense. Which means they need to spend their cap money to continue to improve their offensive line and their TE and RB positions.

Hopefully they will be able to figure out a way to resign AVG since Phillips and Chubb will likely miss parts of the 2024 while still recovering from their injuries.

With the need to spend money on offense and signing AVG a priority, IMO. I just don’t see them having the money to sign Wilkins for the type money he seems to want.

Agreed with all of this except spending on the RB position. Mostert and Achane is a great combo and what money that does become available should absolutely not be allocated on a Henry or other starting caliber RB type.

Not possible because that $20 million+ cap hit would be charged to next seasons cap of which we're already $40 million in the hole. SHOW me how using the franchise tag makes sense for him?
Cut Ogbah, Baker, Xavien Howard, Keion Crossen, and Jeff Wilson.

Restructure Ramsey and Chubb.

Extend Tua.

There you go, you have $41M in cap space. Use it to franchise Wilkins and re-sign Williams, Hunt, and Van Ginkel.

Problem solved (mostly).

Valid point. Take a player's (Wilkin's) salary and determine what and how many upgrades can be gained for that salary. And it doesn't have to be in-house. Hunt and a couple of others may bring more value
I’ve said the same thing about Tyreek. We could fill so many holes by trading and getting a couple of good picks and then freeing up his huge salary. We might get 4-5 good starters for what hill is being paid. We have way too many holes to fill

We need Wilkins. We also need a couple other Vita Vea like players for our D line. Grab those guys in the upcoming draft. They are there. Grier just needs to look.

If not there, do what Eagles did in finding Mailata. They are there. I’ve seen them.
Do tell, who should we draft and/or just bring in from other sports?? You make it sound like an easy fix. Depends on the capital we’re trying to spend

That’s above my pay grade. Grier gets paid to do that. I’ll defer to him.

But they are there.

Nothing is easy, but it’s doable.

I suggest doubling the amount of Griers in the building. That would really get his detractors going. Ross fires Chris and hires Mike. 🤣
