Coach Philbin talks to Dansby about his comments over Chad's release

I agree with you completely. My only issue was the WAY Philbin went about that conversation. He should have pulled him into his office and looked the man in the eyes, imo. But other than that, I agree with everything you say and Philbin made the right call in cutting CJ. He WAS a distraction, and this arrest was the last straw.

The way Philbin spoke to him was a way to void embarrassing Chad and to avoid making him feel like he's being treated like a child. If you try to go all Alpha male on Chad, he might get more rebellious on you out of spite. Bellichick can do it because he has a reputation of winning, they are the freaking Patriots... nobody would take Chad's side if he acted out. But here? First year coach on this loser franchise? Joe was trying to keep the peace and send him the message in a non-threatening way because Chad is a veteran, and the hope was all he needed was a reminder, not a talking down to. I had no issue with it.

This sort of thing REALLY pisses me off...

In particular, here is the part Rosenthal wrote at the bottom:

UPDATE: NFL Network caught footage of Philbin speaking with Dansby in a private conversation at practice. The Dolphins coach gave an indication of what he said when asked by the press about Dansby's comments.

"You have a boss, I have a boss," Philbin said. "I don't always agree with what the boss says every single time. I'm of the opinion that you should keep things in house in that regard."

Dansby clearly got the message.

"That's any organization; any organization is not going to stand for that," he said. "NFL period won't stand for it. The shield is what we are protecting at all times, so we just got to man up and be accountable for our actions."

This is going to be some episode of HBO's "Hard Knocks."

This is just blatantly irresponsible quoting. Blatant.

The first part, I could ALMOST excuse. Rosenthal implies that what Joe Philbin said in his presser, was an indication of what he was talking about with Dansby at practice. For those that haven't seen Joe's press conference, he was asked what he thinks of Karlos disagreeing with the move publicly on radio. He said the following in response:

"You have a boss, I have a boss. I don't always agree with what the boss says every single time. I'm of the opinion that you should keep things in house in that regard."

Does this come off sounding like something Philbin may have told Dansby? Sure. I could see making that honest mistake.

Except Rosenthal goes on to quote Karlos Dansby's FIELD interview. And wouldn't you know, Karlos Dansby was asked "You guys (Philbin and Dansby) spent a lot of time talking this morning during practice, what did you guys talk about?"

Karlos Dansby: "Getting better. Getting better as a team, how we're going to improve our position right now, as players and as people."

Follow up: "Did he have anything to say to you about your comments on Chad?"

Karlos Dansby: "Nah. Not at all."

Follow up: "Has anyone from the team said, 'Alright, you've said your peace, don't say anymore'?"

Karlos Dansby: "Nah man, nah. That's just how I am. That's just how I am, the way I was raised, the way I was cut."

YOU KNOW GREGG ROSENTHAL SAW THIS INTERVIEW because in that "UPDATE" he quotes the following:

"That's any organization; any organization is not going to stand for that," he said. "NFL period won't stand for it. The shield is what we are protecting at all times, so we just got to man up and be accountable for our actions."

So to me, first off Rosenthal implies that Joe Philbin told Karlos Dansby that he should keep things in-house even though Rosenthal damn well saw Dansby specifically refute that.

Then, to cap it off, he makes it seem like the above "organization" quote was in reference to Philbin's wanting things kept in-house, when in actuality the question that preceded the "organization" quote was the following:

Reporter: "Do you think this sends a message from the team that they're not taking any nonsense?"

Dansby: "That's any organization; any organization is not going to stand for that. NFL period won't stand for it. The shield is what we are protecting at all times, so we just got to man up and be accountable for our actions."

And for the record, that exchange happened BEFORE the later questions about whether Philbin or anyone on the team talked to Dansby about his radio comments. So when the reporter says "this", he is obviously talking about Chad Johnson's dismissal, not any conversation Philbin and Dansby had.

It's just so freaking blatant and knowing...and disappointing. My opinion of Gregg Rosenthal just lowered. That's the reality. I didn't have a low opinion of him before but now I'm going to remember him for this, fair or not. That's the sad part.

Exactly. I thought Joe did very well handling Chad. If you paid attention to Chad's body language it was totally childish (trust me I teach middle school children for a living). He handled that situation very well especially considering HARD KNOCKS cameras were right there in his face.

You know what, **** Carlos Dansby. From this point forward he can either get his **** together and play like he wants to earn his contract or he can get in line with the rest of the clowns on my list. The first two,(Garrard and Johnson) were urgent issues that needed taken care of. But, the word is out for the rest of the bums. Vontae... Dansby and anyone else who wants to get out of line can easily find themselves working with Chad Johnson again at his new job if they wish...... View attachment 8953

Philbin is the man. I hope these guys get a clue. This aint your Tony Sparano dolphins. Either get with the program or you can be OchoSies'd from the joint with the rest of the clowns.

I love it. This team needs a complete overhaul and an attitude adjustment and its looking more and more like Joe Philbin is the man to do it.

No question. Everyone is entitled to have their own opinion, including players, but they better learn to keep those kinds of things in house.

Karlos Dansby is just one of those nimrods that typically think they have more slack within an organization than they really do because their contract speaks loud. Welcome to the NFL.

Philbin needs to explain to every player on the roster and make it perfectly clear that it's already proven that the team can lose with 'em.... and he's not afraid to try to win without 'em.

I don't think I have read two better posts on this board the last week. Miami needed to make an example of Johnson and I am glad they did. Johnson is a grown ass man who is getting paid to be a professional and act the part but clearly he isn't anything more than a class clown and attention grabber, good bye Chad and you know what they say about the knob.

As for Dansby, shut the **** up son. If you want to run your trap do it in the confines of the team facility and lead be example. I said this in another thread, this **** wouldn't have been said if it were Ray Lewis and the Ravens or Brady and the Pats or even a Bress or Manning lead team, the discussion would have stayed in house where it belongs.

I wouldn't lose a minutes sleep if they traded ol'run at the flap Dansby, he has not lead this team by example and he is getting paid to be a leader not a roll player.

........................
Follow up: "Has anyone from the team said, 'Alright, you've said your peace, don't say anymore'?"

Karlos Dansby: "Nah man, nah. That's just how I am. That's just how I am, the way I was raised, the way I was cut." .............
so either dansby was raised by idiots or he's too stupid to understand the values he was raised with. he's obligated to have the teams back not johnsons. philbins opinion is the teams opinion. you don't undermine that, especially publicly.

Coach Philbin isn't required to run any of his decisions by Karlos Dansby anyway. The only thing he needs to do is exactly what he tried to tell Chad Johnson in the first place. Which is that if something is on their mind or something is bothering them, they need to feel comfortable enough that they can go to one another and hash it out like grown men. Like professionals. It applies to every coach/player relationship on the roster.

Coach makes it perfectly clear that we all may not agree with all the decisions our bosses make. We handle it by having an open dialogue and keeping things in house.

The question is, to whom?

Joe Philbin told the PRESS that he prefers to keep that discussion in-house. Did he tell Karlos Dansby that? According to Karlos Dansby, no he did not. They never even brushed on that topic.

I'm not out to get Joe Philbin but if he's making himself clear to the press but avoiding the confrontational admonishments to his players, that could be a problem. I didn't like his words to Chad Johnson. If I was Chad Johnson I honestly come away from that conversation not understanding if Joe Philbin expects me to do or say anything differently, because by the end of the conversation it seemed like Philbin was saying if you and I differ on our preference for swearing and the like, that's fine.

I felt he was similarly vague when Chad crashed the coaches meeting and it took Philbin a good couple of minutes before it started to become apparent that he didn't intend to let Johnson sit in on the meeting.

Man Ireland really brought in a collection of bums.

Poor Philbin having to be saddled to deal with one loser after another.

When will IRELAND be held accountable for all this garbage??

I understand. It's an aspect of communicating his stance that he needs to improve on. Be firm, direct, specific, and most of all clear where you stand. I think he's trying to leave a little bit for the players to figure out themselves. Don't do that.

Coaching in the NFL is more about managing personalities than anything else. Most of these guys aren't looking for a mentor, and if they haven't matured by the time they're 25, they're not going to be mature at 35 either.

I completely agree with you here! That peptalk from Philbin to Chad was contradictory and weak. Come on coach be a leader! Chad if you want to be a Miami Dolphin DO NOT use the F Bomb during your pressers. Period the end! No need to make excuses for yourself here coach his presser was juvenile to the point of ridiculous.

Yep. I still cant for the life of me figure out why he kept his job.

This team needs a complete overhaul. And this time they started building the correct way........ drafting a franchise QB in the FIRST ROUND from the beginning. Then you build around your QB once you have found him. This is why I said Tannehill needs to play. Just because a guy dosent have great talent around him, dosent mean you cant fairly evalute whether or not he is capable of leading an NFL team in the years going forward. Let the kid play so we are certain if he is gold or do we need to go back to the drawing board at QB before building the rest of the team.

And lets face it, there is a lot to build on this team. We have almost no talent at skill positions. OL and DL is the one spot where we have fairly young talent that can be here when this team is ready to contend. We need a complete overhaul everywhere else. A lot of these younger players in those areas have their shot now to show if they are both capable and willing to be a part of the solution.

Dansby to me is one of the prime guys who can go ahead and take a hike. He is making a ton of money and by the time this team gets set everywhere, he will be old and on the last leg of that contract. If there were anyway to trade him for any kind of value, Id take it.

philbin being hesitant and wishy-washy when confronting or not confronting adversity directly with players is more disappointment than i can stand at the moment so i'll ignore it.
