Coach Philbin talks to Dansby about his comments over Chad's release

I agree with his sentiment, but honestly, it didn't even look like they were having a conversation. Philbin was looking at the ground the majority of the time. When I'm having a talk with someone over something like that, I would prefer that they look into my eyes the majority of the time.

I like Philbin, and like the way he is running things for the most part, but that little conversation made me a bit uncomfortable because it didn't seem like he was in control of the situation.

I disagree with you Skape and I think that you need to go back and carefully watch that conversation again. Yes, he looked at the ground. He looked out at the practice field where the other players were engaged. He also looked at Chad. And once again, he clearly made Chad aware that there needed to be some changes made with his demeanor. This is on Chad. He had every opportunity to take advantage of the situation.

You know, Joe shouldn't have even had to deal with this issue at all. I'm sure they made it clear to Chad before signing him what they were expecting....

chad dont give a **** why should philbin?

Ummm, I should hope Philbin gives a ****. He's gotta take control of his team and not let situations like this become a distraction. He's done a very good job of it so far if you ask me.

CJ shouldn't have been doing stupid s### , taking away from the coaches time. He has been doing some disrupting things during training camp , interrupting meetings, leaving his position to go over and disrupt the return practice because he thinks he can be a returner and having profanity laced media interviews. Stuff like that is a distraction to practices, time and cohesiveness, the coaches don't need to babysit his needy ass all the time. How many more times would Joe have to pull him to the side? The look at me, me, me act gets old after awhile and i'm sure joe was tiring of it.

when is Dansby's contract up?

His contract runs through 2014.

Here is his contract numbers

2012: $8.8 million, 2013: $6.05 million, 2014: $9.05 million, 2015: Free Agent

We already paid him $22M for 2 unspectactular seasons.

So Belichick releases Chad for being terrible at football and no big deal. Philbin releases him for assaulting his wife and getting arrested, and he now has to explain himself to the media, and to his (supposed, I can show up to camp thirty pounds over-weight and still be voted a Captain while I earn a tremendous amount of money) captain. Something's off here.

It takes time to change a culture

I agree with you completely. My only issue was the WAY Philbin went about that conversation. He should have pulled him into his office and looked the man in the eyes, imo. But other than that, I agree with everything you say and Philbin made the right call in cutting CJ. He WAS a distraction, and this arrest was the last straw.

This is exactly why I have been so critical of Dansby, play up to your contract and be a team leader or hit the road jack. This is a big year for Mr.Dansby, time to step up and lead and play by example or time for Ireland to move him on down the road at seasons end.

To me , it looked like coach had that look of" here we go again chad. i'm getting tired of these talks". We dont get to see all the footage or know how many talks they have had. I bet that wasn't their 1st conversation about chad's behavior.

I think Philbin should take it 1 step further and address the team as whole; IF he hasn't already. I think there are some players who are in need of a lesson on proper manners and on how to conduct themselves in an interview. Dansby had a choice to say something different in that interview, something that wouldn't have given his opinion away in a public forum like that. Even though His total statement really wasn't bad, the media took the parts out of context to make Dansby look like he wasn't an board with the Johnson decision . That is on Dansby for giving the media something write about or speak about or to take out of context. I see why Philbin would want to speak with him. I would have rather seen Dansby decline to answer any questions about that situation. It's one thing to discuss it as a team or amongst team mates, but as we saw another to talk to the media about it.
