After I let my initial Jets hangover subside we decided to stop and take a look and see if we could figure out what the problem is with this team. Why we as fans keep going through this.

Check out the new commentary on the front page here: www.finheaven.com

Then come back here and talk about your opinion. Do you agree? yes? No? Got another angle on it?

SPEAK OUT DOLPHINS NATION!!

Were 1-2 instead of 2-1.

And our fans suck.

Were avg 5.0 yds per carry and 2.4 against. Were also running it a little more than passing it which I love. Redskins are running it the most compared to the pass and they are 1st in points. Houston also is running more than pass and they aren't exactly a bad offense either. This is why you resign Jake Long. He is key to our "god forbid" RUN OFFENSE. Yea Tanny looks stupid as **** right now, he's statistically conforming as he should; dude only had 19 college starts or whatever. The thing is he will 0only get better and if we resign Long we should have the best young oline in the league which I know none of yall care about but I actually like and believe in a violent, physical offense, just my opinion, we are headed in the RIGHT direction. But defenitly need more edge rushers no doubt, or Vernon's gotta step up and Carroll and Clemons.

I think it is going to he hard to judge Tannehill when he has no real weapons to use. Get him some real receivers and and lets see how he does in season 2. To this point he has played like a rookie but thats what he is a rookie with limited exxperience. I still think he is the best qb on our roster imo.

we knew what this season was going to be once tannehill got the nod at qb. we could have beat the jets with all their typical preseason hype, crushed oakland and got blow out by probably the best team in the nfl. this team is right where i thought them to be and our future looks bright with nearly 50 million in cap space next off season and 5 picks in the first three rounds. we all knew that tannehall was going to be learning on the job...we'll be 6-10 or 7-9 this year if you were expecting otherwise you were kidding yourself.

Diagnosing what is wrong right now is missing the point.
Generally speaking we do not have elite executives and we have gone through regime change too many times in the last decade. The best teams are the best because they have stability in the front office and develop that from within.

I do not think the ownership is the issue as I believe we have a mega wealthy owner who is willing to put his money where his mouth is when necessary.
I think we have the best coaching staff we have had in years.

After that...
In the short run if a trade could be made for a decent playmaker at a reasonable price that would help things immensely.
Other than that we need 1-2 offseason cycles for this coaching staff to get the right people in place.

I'm sorry Matt.. I love this site and I've read many front page commentaries over the past 7 years or so... that one was a terrible article IMO...

What got to me most was this was JUST like an overreaction that quite a few people on this site wrote something similar to.

However... good write up. Just, I don't agree with much of it at all.

Success can only be measured by results. True dat. That is the single most important thing anyone should keep in mind when they follow this team and when holding accountable the people in charge.

It's cool you don't have to agree. So do you think the areas I said need to improve are good? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I diagnose right now because we are 1-2 and some of the areas, as I point out, have been issues for years. The point of the article is that these areas should be watched for improvement because they are glaring weaknesses that the team has been unable to resolve.

*sigh*

It's an even longer road back than I thought after this guy:

For me this is simple. We have a bunch of hard workers who have over-acheived so far (IMO), but we lack talent in several key areas, especially our defensive backs and wide receivers. We also have a QB who is new to the league and having a tough time learning without talent surrounding him.

A quick edit: We also have a kicker who is great all of the time, except when it counts. I can think of a few moments off the top of my head where Carpenter blew the game for us. He's not what you would call "clutch".

I´m not used to post often but been around for some time, in my opinion there are two keys that put us on our current hole:
1. Lack of stability; meaning Head Coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, front office and GM. All great and successful teams have this mark print and we don´t.
2. Obviously lack of talent, which has to do (with no doubt) with a nonexistence GM who is responsible for bringing talent and play makers. In any company, institution or whatever if you don´t achieve goals you´re fired...

I 100% understand people not showing at the stadium, not cheering enough and loud. It´s been a long time of disappointments and failures. Just for the record, I´m 52 years old and been Dolphins fan since 1971 so I´ve been around following the team for a while.

Just a few comments on the article: Seattle's safety is Earl Thomas, not Earl Little.

As for the pass rush thing, I can't say I agree with some of the things mentioned. Jared Odrick was not drafted to provide pass rush, he was a 4-3 DT at Penn State and a 3-4 DE in our scheme. The move to a 4-3 has him out of position at end but Randy Starks plays the position he SHOULD be playing in a 4-3. That being said, I agree with you on Misi, he was supposed to be the pass rushing compliment to Wake. Then we drafted Vernon this year to do it. Unfortunately for us, neither Misi, nor Vernon, were pass rushing specialists in college and it doesn't surprise me one bit that both have struggled to provide a true threat opposite Wake.

I think you hit on many of the key areas that we need to target for either development or improvement though. I believe in Tannehill, he's shown me more than I expected through three starts. When we drafted him, I was happy but I also didn't think he was someone that could start day one. I thought he was better suited to sit for a year and then take the reigns because he didn't have a ton of college experience and he needed to learn the position still.

At WR, Hartline is top 15 in the NFL in targets. As he continues getting into game shape, and continues building a rapport with Tannehill, I think we could see big things from him. That being said, I don't really see much help from others. Bess is still a solid possession guy but he's nothing more and I wouldn't consider any other WR on our roster anything special. I had high hopes for the TEs this year though. Clay and Egnew have the talent to be studs in the passing game but they have been wildly inconsistent and underwhelming. I have a feeling the coaching staff was hoping for big things from them but the fact that Mastrud is not only still on the roster, but getting playing time over both of them, has to be one of the biggest disappointments of the season.

I'm okay with most of the secondary, Reshad Jones is playing a lot better than anyone gives him credit for and I think he's a keeper at one spot. Clemons is solid but unspectacular and though he can be upgraded, he's been competent. Sean Smith is a worthy starter as well. The problem is that Marshall and Carroll aren't as good as the staff says they are and there's nobody behind them to push for their spots. Marshall has been a competent corner in the league but he's always had a true number 1 corner opposite him. Sean Smith isn't really a true number 1/shutdown guy so its exposing Marshall's weaknesses. If I were running the show, I'd be looking to find another starting CB at or above Smith's level of play, allowing Marshall to play FS and nickel, mixing in Clemons off the bench.

We need a true pass rushing threat opposite Wake, that's absolutely one of the biggest weaknesses on the team. Even just a 3rd down specialist a la how the Jets use Aaron Maybin would be nice to have but we don't have anyone that I think can do that.
