Could The Dolphins OL Be Worse This Year?

No! No matter what individual stats you might summon up, judging from the schizophrenic running game, the often split seconds that Tannehill had to react post-snap, and of course there were those record-breaking sacks... that the lack of synergy was painfully obvious in this case as the whole sure didn't come close to equaling the sum of its parts!

Two obvious reasons why the oline will be better pass protecting than last year are Go Go and actually having the semblance of a running game, Lazor and Benton will see to that.

Thread of the Year right here! Lol

In FA I think Daryn Colledge offers similar ability to Jerry as a pass protector. Wade Smith would also be better than John Jerry. My concern is probably RT, I think we're going to have improved guard play. Davin Joseph is another guy I'd consider an upgrade over Jerry...I think with connections to those 3 we will land one. Tackle I'm probably looking at Ryan Harris at this point...played under Benton as well but I think we'll have a rookie RT this year.

and NO

Colledge was much worse on the pass than Jerry, and barely better on the run. Smith had a -5 on the pass, and a -10 on the run, and is 33. I can now see why you just posted NO, and thanked everyone else who did. lol

Uh, we have more talent at each of the positions or will... Better OLine Coach and now we don't have a mutiny at the OLine position.

How could you even ask this question with a straight face? You post some garbage

Well if you're gonna base your whole evaluation on PFF go for it...my point was Colledge is a competent pass protector and that's blocking for a statue like Palmer. That offense also is much more of a vertical passing game. At least he didn't get bitchslapped like Jerry does in the run game. Daryn Colledge was the 39th ranked guard and Jerry was the 44th...all 3 of the guards I mentioned are better ZBS fits and I mentioned them because they've played under Benton. They'd be stop gaps for rookies anyway.

I posted no because the same thread is recycled everyday.

Soooooo because pff says that so and so was good or so and so is bad than that mus be true......I see....good assessment.

NO because just having Albert makes line better. We wont need t.e. help on that side.S.Smith will help in run game and any 1st or 2nd rder will continue upgrade

If you are looking for guarantees you won't get any from me. Whether it be free agency or the draft, you have to trust your ability to evaluate and hope things work out for you.

I remember hearing how much Chicago's offense was going to suffer if they start two rookies along the OL. While they did struggle at times, they did not hamper the Bears offense as much as Miami's makeshift OL did.

Not true. Long (1st round) had 5 god games and 7 bad ones, which is what you can expect from a rookie. Mills was a disaster i giving up only 2 sacks but, 13 hits and an amazing 62 hurries for a pass grade of minus 32.5. Don't think I have ever seen lower, even with Columbo.

Understood. I use PFF n FA players I have not seen much of, and they spend the 10 hours to grade a single game. If you want to talk about the Phins, I watch the OL a secnf time every game, and can tell you that Jerry was good- Vg in pass protect, sucked on the run, and that Clabo played very well in the last 9 games. Either of those, I will dispute myself, with no help from PFF.

You cannot base you evaluations strictly on PFF numbers, you have to actually see them play. Pass protection is not the only way to judge an OL and if they were as bad as PFF say they were, there would have been no way for the Bears to set franchise records for total net yards, net passing yards, and first downs while paving the way for Matt Forte to set a career high in rushing yards.

And you have watched these FA players from other teams closely how many times?

For those who believe that sacks are the only thing that matters, this is not a thread for you, as it is about the 684 pass play Miami had last year, and not only the 41 where the OL allowed a sack.

Last year, our interior OL did well in pass protect until Cog left. A closer look.

Pouncey was the #1 C in pass protect with a grade of 7.6, gave up 2 sacks, 3 hits, and 9 hurries.

Jerry was #10 of all G's with a grade of 6.8, gave up 5- 4- 16.

Cog was #23, with a grade of 1.2, gave up 6- 3-2.

Garner (-0.3) and Brenner (-6.6) did not play well in limited action, and no one, other than Cog had a positive grade on the run.

At OT

Clabo was #46, with a grade of minus 0.8, gave up 11- 10- 31 but, 3- 4 13 in the last 9 games. Howard was at -1.0.

Martin was # 56, with a grade of minus 3.0, gave up 7- 7- 15.

McKennie was #57 with a grade of minus 5.1, gave up 7- 9- 23.

Again run blocking was a disaster.

Now, we have Albert who was #11, with a grade of 14.4, gave up 4-6- 13 missing 4 games.

The remaining options for now are Wharthon at OG who is 33, and Clabo at RT. Anyone thinking we are getting 2 or, possibly 3 starters from the draft is not being realistic. And IF we have 2 rookie starters, we could very well be worse on the OL this year. JMO

This is from PFF:

Shelley Smith, OG
2013 Grade: +7.0
Summary: After barely playing in his first two seasons in the league, Smith has played 731 in the past two years for the St. Louis Rams, not getting the chance to start full time, but coming onto the field as an injury replacement. 2013 was our best look at him to date and, while you do have concerns about his pass blocking, where he graded below -2.0 in each of his two starts, he is a very good run blocker. So good in fact, that just three guards had a run blocking grade higher than Smith’s +12.3 last season. Good Fit: Kansas City, New England, Miami

Albert is a big Upgrade over Martin and we just need to find a good OG. I think between Garner and a low priced FA can handle the RT spot better than Clabo did last year!!!

answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOO
