Could The Dolphins OL Be Worse This Year?

If they stop now the line is at least as good. Albert and Smith are probably equal to or better than Martin/Mckinney and Richie/Brenner. The two O line coaches should be much better than Turner as well.
This is after a week or so of rebuilding the line.

Still more to come like a couple draft picks ( maybe one at #19) and a few low cost free agents so hopefully the end result will be MUCH better.

All the people that are answering with just a NO either
A. Don't understand what the word " could " means in a sentence with a question mark
B. Are super homers
C. Don't know a lot about football
D. Just trying to be funny

Line can definitely be worse. Those pff ratings in my opinion reflect way to good on one of the worst lines in football last year. Amazing how the coaching staff and other staffs are not rushing to resign these scrubs. I mean much worse rated players are bing snatched up.
We have improved LT considerably but Shelly Smith is probably not an upgrade at G. He could really crack a pretty poor interior line of St Louis last year. Im not a fan of the signing but he is not really expensive. Should have went after Asamoah who is a much better player but also costs a little change. If Smith is a starter we will have a weak spot in my opinion. Hell would rather have Jerry start. So we have no starting guard and still need a RT so we could definitely be worse. I have found it amazing that Shelly Smith once he became a dolphin became such a good player, I guess thes rest of the NFL just missed it.

I can't see how anyone can say we are better right now than we were a year ago at this time. That is not even being realistic. At this time last year most posters here were as high on Claybo as they are this year on Albert. Personally I can see Fat Albert having about the same kind of year as Claybo had, but lets ignore that and say Albert works out fine. That gives us exactly two starters right now. This time last year we had 3 starting guards, ( richie, Jerry, and the guy from the bears), we knew Pouncey was the center, and we at least knew who our tackles were going to be (unless they were gonna draft one in the first).

Now you can make a case that we are going to add several more players and become a better OL, but as of right now we don't have but two starters with Shelly being an average backup. We need two guards and a tackle AND draft at least one of each, just to be as good as we were this time last year.

You want to see a team go 0-16 just go ahead and trot out an OL consisting of Albert, Dallas Thomas, Pouncey, Shelly and Garner and see how long it is before Ryan is in the hospital. That lineup will have people talking about John Jerry like he was Larry Allen.

i'm sure that's the plan :rolleyes2:

Then I will assume you are agreeing. That can't be the OL we field on opening day, which means we have a long way to go in free agency to go from an OL that is 40% complete to one that is 100% complete. Certainly hope he isn't planning to find the other 60% in the draft.

Again we have time to make this better but to answer the OPs original question, "can this line be worse than it was last year"? The answer has to be "YES" yes it can, it certainly is worse right now.

I watched the last two games of the year for the Rams to evaluate Shelley Smith and I was pretty pleased with him. Its easy to say that he was a reserve for the Rams so he must not be a god player, but without ever seeing him play, it is stupid to make a comment like that. For starters, Smith does not have world class athletic ability. He can also be bull rushed at times. What I really like about him though is that he plays to the whistle. He makes second level blocks. He has just enough speed and quickness to pull. Those are three qualities a lot of our lineman were lacking last year. Martin especially would play the first 3-4 seconds of each play and then he would walk around. Smith isnt replacing him but He will be an upgrade over Jerry because of his mobility and run blocking. I think it is important to note however that the Rams were a quick passing offense so I did not get a chance to see Smith sustain a block very long.

Well I have seen him play and he really isn't that good. The comment was he was on a bad line and couldn't crack the lineup, he has been around a little while and there were not stellar players keeping him on the bench. Its just as stupid to say he is an upgrade over Jerry based on 2 games.
people believe what they want to believe. If you choose to believe he is an upgrade over jerry than that's what you believe. There is a reason he wasn't the starter last year so lets quit acting like he the answer as our starter just because we signed him. He will be good in run blocking and poor in pass basically
