That's why I'm hoping the new OL coach doesn't do what the previous two coaches did by tinkering with the personnel grouping all through training camp.

As far as getting five offensive linemen who have never worked together before to get in unison is not that difficult if you have the right players. This is one of the reason I think Hickey has not gone overboard with signing every Tom, Dick and Harry offensive linemen that's available.

I don't think people need to wake up, I think people just need to be patient and let the process work its way out.

As of now, the Oline looks like it'll have another bad year...However, it's almost impossible to be worse than last year (especially with the whole bullygate nonsense). So No. But with that said, I do not think they will play well, just not that bad either.

That's fair but, somewhat untrue. I spent some time researching what I posted in the OP, and was just looking for a good discussion/debate. Although the OL has been beaten to death, and then some, I thought this was a bit of a different perspective with some fact to back it up.

There is no need for patience when there is no talent to be patient about.

I was wrong to start this thread. It's pretty much a waste of everyone's time to read, with few exceptions.
 
I think adding a RB that can get some yards would help the Oline out a lot though, by taking some pressure off the unit. No doubt we have big holes at RT, LG, RG and RB. All positions crucial to the running game and therefore the entire offense. I would like to see us get one more big name in FA for the OL and take care off the rest in the draft or after the June first cuts. Not much to choose from right now in FA though.

I'm glad you did some research before starting this thread but the question you posed had been asked several times over the past week and I think people are just tired of trying to answer it.

That's the thing that's make this so frustrating. I think some people want the OL fixed yesterday but it is not going to happen. Sure it would be great to have the OL settled before the draft but how realistic was that? I would prefer for Hickey/Philbin/Benton to take their time to get it right than just sign what is available and not fit what they are trying to do scheme wise. Yes it is a risk to rely on two rookie players on the OL but it has worked out for the Dolphins once before and with the right players could happen again. :up:
 
I remember the Wanny days. One year we had a particularly terrible OL and they cut most of the starters. Fans on the internet said "It can't get worse than last year, so we are OK". Then it got worse.


It can always get worse. To think otherwise is too homeristic. Will it? Probably not. It's safe to assume we are going to get better. We still don't know.

I certainly agree that a RB that gets tough yards helps the OL, not only with measurable yards Miller wouldn't get but with intangible stuff like boosting their confidence and feeling more a part of the team. I'm sure last season the OL knew that Miller/Thomas wasn't going to get anything the OL didn't make for them, which is demoralizing.
 
I don't think so. I find it hard to believe our starting RT is on the roster today and unfortunately we will probably go that way at #19 in the draft (although I'd love to solve it in FA and draft a stud TE but FA is dried up). I don't think we will make the mistake of trying to plug RT with a guy like Clabo, finheaven hero Eric Winston or someone like McKinnie who said he's willing to play there now. I think we will go heavy on the OL in the draft and we'll get to read countless cornfed vs difference maker threads. I really can't wait :).
 
I didn't think we could get any worse than Marc Colombo.

Then last year happened.


If there's anything the Dolphins have taught me about life, it's that things can ALWAYS get worse.
