Could Tony Dungy become new Dolphins czar?

I would be fine with this as long as a solid GM is brought in.

The big question is whether Tony Dungy would want it? He was deeply hurt by the death of his son and needed a break. It is interesting that he has this in common with Joe Philbin and Andy Reid.
I didn't think about that same link about Dungy and Philbin. They might or might not ever discuss that with each other. I don't think Dungy wants a position like this, especially not his intention going in, but who knows. I wondered, when I first heard of the committee, if at some point someone on the committee starts thinking to themselves as things are discussed and worked on that they could do more for this organization.

I don't see it happening.

I've mentioned Jason Taylor before and I honestly think he's the right guy. From what I've heard, he'd actually be interested in that kind of job, whereas Marino has already quit once and turned it down a second time.

IMO the most important qualifications for this position are that the person wants the job and has a passion for it -- rather than being talked into it or bought into it -- and that the person cares about the Miami Dolphins organization. That's why I'm saying, go ask JT. He's a smart guy who is damn good at public relations and outreach. It could work.

That said, this team needs someone in that position badly. Ross clearly just doesn't know what's going on in the building day to day and you need someone there at the top to keep people in line.

I don't want Lovie as HC. Def Coor would be fine. Jay Carmichael or maybe David Cutcliffe at OC. Dungy as czar or gm would be fine with me.

I've heard Ryan Grigson interviewed several times after he replaced Polian. Aside from a Purdue star, marginal NFL and CFL player, he was the Dir of Player Personnel for the Eagles when promoted into this job. This guy is very impressive, a real enthusiast of the game, trivia expert and collector of momentos. He stepped up to the job and has shined. Hate to admit it, but the drunken owner hit a home run kicking the Polians to the curb and bringing Grigson in. I'd love to find someone like him rather than a Dungy who always cooked the groceries, never bought them and has such a rigid moral compass that I fear it would somewhat blind him. Lovie has hired some awful OCs and that was his downfall. As a result, I've got no confidence that an old dog will learn new tricks. So both quality guys, yes, but for our franchise, for me that's an ixnay.

J. David Wannyheimer - For once we agree... JT is really smart and it is interesting that he is part of Ross' inner circle. I assume that Ireland is dead meat and I would not be surprised if Jason Taylor is the preferred choice. The success of Elway in Denver has opened the door for smart, high profile ex-players to be considered for these roles. Jason, as a local hero could also be a unifying figure through this period of adversity.

I don't want him to take Ireland's job. I want him to take Bill Parcells' old job. Be the owner's proxy, the guy in the building every day who reports only to the owner, who knows football, views the franchise as more than a paycheck, and keeps the new GM and coach honest.

It doesn't have to be #99, but find someone who meets my criteria and get him in there. I can't help but think after this whole mess that one of the biggest problems the Dolphins have right now is that the big chief is never in the tent.

Dungy would recommend Bill Polian for the job. Dungy is out of football.

I'm not a fan of Dungy at all. He'd be way down my list of people I'd want involved in the Dolphins.

I don't like it.
I'm a fan of Scot McCloughan for GM/Personnel. The key is to get better personnel decision consistently with a guy who has a better grasp on playmakers in college. I think McCloughan is that guy because of his record and history.
I'm a fan of Sumlin for HC. He lands himself well to what the Dolphins have tried to do for the past 2 years, so there would be some continuity. However it would be a shift away from the Sherman/Green Bay approach with more on offense.

You crazy man??? Stop bogarting that thing and pass it along. Wouldn't mind Jason being president of the team but I want an experienced GM replacing Ireland

Do it. It's not like we have anything to lose at this point. Dungy would bring some respect back to this organization.
...
Maybe.
...
Hopefully.

With the Dolphins luck no, but we have to do something. This seems a sound idea at least.

Or bring in JT.

That's what he's saying. Put JT in the John Elway role. Get a good GM in here but basically borrow JT's credibility and have him be the figurehead of the front office. That's why Dungy wouldn't be terrible for the role if we got a good GM in as well. He has plenty of good will and credibility to spare.

I think Walrus maybe thought of something like this possibility in another thread and the thought crossed my mind as well. I guess there is a chance of someone else on the committee also maybe with some increased involvement with the team at some point. I think it's just a possibility but I really don't think there is any real interest of anyone on the committee doing this going in. Maybe were just being hopeful? The article seems just hopeful to me also.

I didn't -- and still don't -- think Dungy is inclined to say yes, but I do think that's what these leadership committees are about (which is what my thread was about). I think one of these guys is going to end up in some kind of Parcellian team president role.

I like Lovie Smith. I know things came to a hard landing in Chicago but look at the broader picture here of what he accomplished. It's impressive. Very similar to the John Fox situation.
