The Dolphins have not responded to inquiries from Channing Crowder's agent about a new contract, and with Crowder set to become an unrestricted free agent next spring, the situation bears monitoring. Crowder's camp believes he's being seriously underpaid. With a $1 million base salary for this season, he's tied for fourth with Reggie Torbor among the team's linebackers behind linebacker/defensive end Jason Taylor ($7.5 million), Joey Porter ($4.8 million) and Akin Ayodele ($2.5 million).

I can see why the Dolphins are not talking an extension with Crowder just yet. He has been very inconsistent his first three seasons. He needs a big year if he wants to remain a Dolphin for a long time.

crowder is probably my favorite fin, but he does need that break out year to warrant a bigger contract. needs to get to the qb, needs some picks, needs some forced fumbles, and needs more tackles for loss. but he is better that ayodele.

Well, perhaps he will do what many players do during a contract year...... Perform at or above his potential and become a bonifide playmaker/game changer this year. I think if he just has an average year with nothing spectacular they will just let him test the free agent market. Just my opinion.

I agree. I think he needs to step it up big! I saw him trailing too many plays last year.

I'm not sure how much Channing think he is worth but the only accomplishment thus far in his career is leading the Dolphins in tackles last year and he only achieved that because Zach Thomas missed all but 5 games.

Crowder doesn't have to be Zach Thomas or even an All-Pro for this defense to be effective, he just needs to make plays which is something he has not done in his first three years in the league. Zero interceptions and zero forced or recovered fumbles is not getting it done.

At this point in their careers, Channing has not shown to be better in any area of the game than Akin. Maybe now that he cannot rely on Zach to have his back, Crowder will become the LB I always thought he could be when we drafted him out of Florida.

Crowders career stats look like this

Played - 43
Tackles - 266
Sacks - 1.5
Fumbles Forced - 2
Interceptions - 0

i hope he plays well, it would be a shame to have another drafted player turn into nothing =(. I just dont see him being anything better than a average starter. He will be replaced and i think he will go bye bye maybe next year if he doesnt at least get a couple of sacks and a lot of tackles.

Hmm...Crowder is credited with 2 forced fumbles? I must have missed those two games. In any case, he has to do better this year if he expects to get the money he's looking for.

The only thing Crowder IMO has going for him is his age. He is only 24 and has 3 seasons under his belt, but he still has alot of improving to do.

So here we have Crowder griping about his contract after the horrible season he had last year. I don't care how many tackles the guy had last year he was always chasing plays. He NEVER cuts plays off at the point of attack. Tackles don't mean jack if they are six yards downfield.

No way I would give him a raise. In fact I hope he doesn't start this year and gets sent packing. The guy is too slow and just flat out awful. He needs to get his butt in the filmroom and study if he plans on being the LB he thinks he is.

I wouldnt say he is flat out awful or there prob would have been someone else starting in his place, but when it comes to money tho he doesnt deserve more money until he can do something than be average. I bet Sparano wont hesitate to throw one of our shinny new LB's we grabbed threw freeagency and let him play instead.

I remember 1 off the top of head....against Atlanta he destroyed their FB (caught a pass in the flat I think) and caused the turnover. Too bad there haven't been more moments like that.

He controls his destiny.....if he pays well, he'll get paid, whether it's by us or someone else.

i think he is more consistent that akin. akin is hit-or-miss big time with me. sometimes he plays great, sometimes he disappears. at least crowder is consistently average. and he is so young - he has so much time to improve and get better. i think he will develop into a great LB. i know i am a UF homer, but he was great there. with his size and speed, there is no reason why he can't be the man in miami too.
