Crowder = Vilma?

wait until ernie sims comes to the nfl. he'll be better than both

Ernie Sims is a baller and a great hitter but so was Kendyl Pope and he's been a disappointment so far. With that being said... I hope Sims falls to the Phins and replaces Zach. Crowder and Sims would make a great tandem in the middle of a 3-4 defense.

I'm just comparing their level of production in college. Pope is a couple steps to slow to carry over his college success to the NFL. Sims has a better chance to succeed in the NFL but he still has to show up to play.

I think it depends on two things. 1) Where we draft in the 1st round. And 2) What kind of season Sims has this year.

As good as Sims is... he's still hasn't filled Michael Boulware's shoes and he wasn't exactly a top 10 pick so who knows where Sims will get picked.

Lets not get carried away here.. Vilma is only a tiny bit bigger and probably a step faster (4.54 at the combine last year I forget what channing got.)... Vilma was a much better college player and a 3 year starter where channing only got 2 and change. I think he has the potential to be better than Vilma but not for a year or 2. Remember he is very young also.

Channing was a redshirt Soph. meaning he could not get more than two years at all.

Vilma is a freaking stud, let's give Channing a chance to actually play a down of football before we get carried away.

I can name about 50 LB's bigger, faster, stronger than Zach but that doesn't mean they're better. Instincts and football savvy play into being a LB as well. Vilma has that, does Channing?

Toughness and ability to stay injury free, or at least play through injuries factors in. Channing hasn't proven he can do that and has, in fact, been an injury prone player. Which is why we have him in the first place.

I'm as excited as anyone, but let's calm down a bit here. If athleticism was all that mattered, Quinton Caver would be a HOF'er. He's a freak physically.

I dono about a season like Vilma, because Vilma was far more seasoned, but Channing is really gonna be something special and he's very young.

Vilma was more experienced but Crowder is bigger and faster. He has the potential to be better, but it will take a season or 2.

I don't think Crowder is faster the Vilma and he certainly doesn't have Vilma's instints. What did Crowder run at the combine?

I've ordered my Crowder jersey because I like him and I think he's going to be a good player but I'm not going to be on his nutz like some of you guys.

I hope so. I was hoping he was going to sign with UM but even though he's at FSU, I still want to see him do well (except the first game of the season).:D

he and the D have to win the game for FSU. should be fun

Exactly... it's going to be a struggle and it's probably going to come down to which D makes the biggest play (INT, fumble, a stop on a key 3-1, etc.).

Hopefully, a trimmed down Tyrone Moss and a couple nice returns from Devin Hester will swing the game in UM's favor.

Don't back down. These are all opinions drifting into the cybersky. Yours is the far superior one in this case. In fact, his is looney tune. Not a single NFL team would prefer Channing Crowder to Jonathan Vilma at this point. Not even our own.

i don't back down. anyone whose seen some of my posts knows this. I just really value his opinion on guys coming out of college. quite frankly i like the idea that channing could be that good. thats really good to hear.

when vilma came to the nfl he played 4 years at UM. Crowder came out of college early, after his second year, so really, we should give crowder 2 years to see if he will be as good or better than Vilma. Crowder has that potential though, but again, he's two years younger than vilma was when vilma came out. That's 2 years more of sculpting your body for the pros and getting your game better. the crowder = vilma? question is a good one i think, the fact that people are comparing him shows the potential he has, obviously we haven't seen him in real action yet like we have vilma, so it is all speculation, but remember he's got 2 years to become the next vilma, so lets not all make conclusions right now!

Jonathon Vilma > Channing Crowder

He has been instincts because he has been playing football LONGER. Channing Crowder is going to have to pick up his instincts with every rep he has. Vilma just about already knew what to do because he had been playing the Mike position so long. And even though I hate FSU, Ernie Sims IS A BEAST.
