Cut Mare - Sign France?

I'm a Mare hater. He's let me down too many times. He better perform this season.

Had I responded w/o doing my homework.....I would have dismissed this thread as complete garbage. BUT......

I took a look at how Olindo stacks up against the other kickers in the league, and to my surprise, the answer is, NOT TOO WELL.

Out of the 29 kickers that have been in the top-30 for FG's made in at least 2 of the last 3 years (stats were limited by what NFL.com provides, but I think this includes every kicker of note for that period)......Mare ranks at #22. 22!!!

So going by the last 3 years......we are in the bottom third of the league as far as out Kicker goes.

So, while I don't condone scrapping Mare for a NFL Europe player....I do think that he is on the hot seat this year, and I wouldn't mind seeing some serious competition brought into camp for the spot.

Here's the numbers:

two years ago when he missed those kicks on the dirt and a few others we did not have our snapper. (out for the year). We had two fill in crap snappers. last year he was injured. but up to when he got injured he looked good. Plus last year there wasn't crap to kick. We were lucky to get into field goal range. When we did, he made them. (when he wasn't injured). I think you guys need to give him a wait and see pass for this year.

I've never heard anyone attribute Mare's screw ups in 2003 to any problem with the long snapper. Ever.

I'm not ready to scrap Mare, even if I were to ignore the cap implications.
He was definitely disappointing in '03, and obviously injured last year.
At 31, avoiding injuries, he sould just be getting into his own as a kicker. I am optimistic that he will turn it all around.

Edinger is now available and probably at the veterans minimum. Mare is no longer an elite kicker just a good guy to kickoff before last year. Injuries or not it is time to move on. Remember possibly the two best kickers today were undrafted Vinatieri and Longwell so you can always acquire a kicker without wasting a draft pick(J-E-T-S)

We're better off keeping Mare than we are signing Edinger.

Hes only 31 but he hasnt been a Pro Bowl caliber kicker since 2002!

For a kicker his cap number is pretty high.

If he doesnt produce this year hes a goner!

deal!

mare is still the man. the guy has been excellent on kickoffs the last few years. i was a holder for my friend, so i kinda know some of the nuances for the kicking game. lemme be the first to tell you that losing your long snapper can have an adverse effect on the timing of your kicker, as will having a different holder, its all about routine and timing for them, while it may not be a noticable difference for any of us, talk to the kickers of the world. i can forgive mare for his misses off the dirt, i was mad as anything in the new england game, but dont fault him, that messes with your plant, and confidence im sure, especially when youve missed one earlier in the game i believe. wayne needs to get the stupid marlins out of our stadium, so we dont have to worry about that crap anymore

Mare is a good kicker but he craps his pants when the pressure is on. if we don't cut him we ahould atlaest re do his contract.

Edinger is the worse than everyone except Gramatica over the last three years.....I'd keep Mare for now, even at the higher cap cost (we're not exactly tight under the cap now)......but if he doesn't improve this year.......

what about the kick in the denver game, if someone wants to look it up i think he still has a very good percentage on kicks to either tie or win a game for us...

Are you kidding me? Is your memory that short, or are you just young enough to only remember the past two years?

Do you honestly feel that Edinger is a better kicker?
