D Smith on Mac Jones/Tua

Jan. 8th 2018...Freshman Tua won the Nat'l Championship throwing the game winning pass to true freshman Devonta Smith.
The following football 2018 season Devonta,Ruggs and Judy were starters....Waddle came next..
Just tell me the two first rounders that Devonta was behind.
Well, Waddle did have more receptions, yards and TDs than Smith that year...even TE Irv Smith had more.

Was that the question?...What two first rounders were ahead of Smith?

Ruggs and Jeudy. I think he meant behind in terms of production and targets. Waddle was ahead too.

they were ALL starters is the correct answer....Waddle was the extra receiver...

Waddle only had 3 more receptions and only 1 more TD than Smitty that year. Smitty also played in less games because he was suspended for the first half against Tennessee for throwing a punch in the aTm game.

Furthermore, Waddle played in the second half of more games because Alabama was up big and pulled the starters and wanted to get the younger players and freshman more experience. Some of you might want to pay attention to what Namor is trying to tell you.

You're telling on yourselves if you didn't know that Tua and the starting offensive skill players spent most of second halves on the bench joking around up 40 every week.

Listen...it's going to be a long time, before you see four receivers with that much talent on the field at the same time.
They all have 1st round talent...so to say ..pick the best one...to me is like saying "Pick your favorite kid"..
They all had different strengths that made them ungodly together..
Ruggs was the fastest...not much better than Waddle, tho.
Judy was the best route runner..
Waddle was the most explosive...score from anywhere...
Smith was the most complete and the most clutch.
That's what,to me make Devonta stand out....go back and watch the games when Bama was in a actual game, not a blowout where everyone is catching 30 yd bombs.
When in a tight game and a critical catch was needed....always was Devonta...
When Tua or Mac was in trouble..it was always Devonta working his way back to QB for a catch.
Don't remember Ruggs or Judy working their way back to much..
Devonta was the "Clutch" receiver in the bigger games...
P.S..All four are faster than Chase....

Lol. Ok, sure man. Now, he had 7 games of three receptions or less in a game in 2018. Call him a “starter” that year, that’s fine. Caught a 4th Q TD in a blowout against Citidel and a late 3rd Q TD in another blowout against Auburn. Seems to be playing a few second halves of blowouts. Jeudy played in second halves as well. Saban doesn’t take the foot off the gas too easily.

The fact is he played in 13 games in 2018 and was the fifth leading receiver on his team - half of Jeudy’s production.

So if you don’t like the view that he was behind two first rounders in 2018, that’s fine but before throwing out nonsense like his production was comparably lower because he sat out second halves, spare us.

Just a question..Did you watch those games or going off the stat sheet?

Well, nobody is calling him a starter. He was a starter. Secondly, nobody said he never played the second half of any blowouts. Pretty sure the indication was that he played in the second half of less games than Waddle. Because of the reasons I told you.

The touchdown in the 3rd quarter against Auburn wasn't a blowout. It was still a 10 point game in the 3rd quarter when Smitty scored that touchdown.

Saban always take his foot off the gas and plays the backups in the 2nd half of blowouts. You still have a lot to learn. You might learn it by actually watching the games.

Saban took his foot off the gas so much..It cost Tua the Heisman that year....

Exactly. Saban isn't going to lose a national championship because he failed to prepare the backups to play n favor of a Heisman Trophy. He taught Mac Brown that lesson in the national championship game. Mac Brown chose to pad Colt McCoy's stats in the 2nd half of blowouts all season in an attempt to try get him the Heisman Trophy instead of preparing Garrett Gilbert to play in case he was needed.

When Marcell Dareus knocked Colt McCoy out of the game on their first drive - it was over for Mac and Texas.
