Daniel Thomas when getting 10+ carries...

Boy...this is just trying to pick stats to fit what you want them to show. How about in 1 game where he had just 9. That is only 1 less...in one of those he had 6 ****ing yards. A whopping 0.7 yards per carry.

Cut daniel for Damien although in the film I watched of Damien he goes untouched. Alot of great blocking and he doesn't look nfl fast. Thus he went undrafted.

I think Miller has a solid nfl career. He looks like a good one cut RB good vision and speed. But he goes down way too easy. Moreno might be good if he's healthy

If I go by what I saw of DT last year, I would say that he ran harder than Miller, got what was there in fewer openings, and was a good receiver in catching 15 of 16 passes. I believe he will be better than Moreno this year. JMO

People don't like to admit that Thomas was pretty good last year. But we have pretty good already in Miller and Moreno (plus pretty poor in Gillislee).

I'd like to see us cut Thomas and Gillislee loose and see what we have in Damien Williams. But there's a good chance Thomas will be a decent tailback behind a big line who can open holes for him.

so you call Gillislee poor and you want to cut him lose for Damien Williams, the most underwhelming tape you will ever see, slow no moves...nothing, Gillislee is a much better player than Williams

I fundamentally disagree and that's all I'm really prepared to say to your post.

Thomas is an enigma to me. He has the athleticism to be a good RB, he fights for yards, he can run, he hits the hole fast - but none of the translates into yards. He looks like he should be a 4.5/ypc RB, but he just isn't and we have seen enough of him to know he never will be.

Thomas was his usual crappy self when carrying the ball, however, he did surprise me in the passing game with some very nice receptions and run-after-catch ability. Still I'm intrigued by Damien Williams who has size (5'11" 222 lbs) and speed (4.45) and was raved about when he was the RB at Oklahoma before getting kicked off the team. My guess is we will carry 4 unless they decide to carry 6 WRs and 4 TEs in which case we may only have 3 RBs.

Daniel Thomas is a physical specimen who is natural able to make things happen with the ball in his hands when he gets out into a little bit of space where one-on-one tackle attempts happen. That's why he succeeds in the passing game. There were times the Dolphins were able to play to his strengths by running him to the outsides, where he tallied 162 yards on 35 carries (4.6 ypc) in 2012-13, versus 569 yards on 165 carries (3.4 ypc) between tackles. He was consistently more efficient on outside runs in both seasons, and cumulatively more efficient as well.

As for getting better the more he carries the football I find little evidence of that. If you're going to delve into the realm of statistical analysis you have to do it right. He only had 10 carries in 2013 on attempts #11+ of a game. Yes he grabbed 66 yards on those 10 carries but the sample size is what is important there, because 55 of those 66 yards came on ONE run. So for the other 9 carries he gained only 11 yards. And in 2012 he averaged 3.4 yards on 16 carries that were attempt #11+ of the game, versus 3.6 yards per carry on attempts #1 thru 10 of the game. So basically this theory that he gets better the more carries he gets is based on ONE run, whereas the rest of the runs (25 runs for 65 yards and a paltry 2.6 yards per carry average) suggest the exact opposite.

Thomas has become a good teammate and a hard worker, and he still does well when you get him out into space. But he has no vision, bad instincts, non-ideal pad level, is too prone to being tripped up in traffic, and his skill set works at odds with his physical qualities. You don't HAVE to cut him right now. You might as well see what the other backs have to offer. But I wouldn't hold your breath trying to claim value out of him.

Do you think that we keep 3 or 4 RBs? With the addition of Moreno, I think that Gillislee will lose his roster spot. He has to show something in Training Camp or he gets cut.

There were indications that Mike Gillislee has been set above Daniel Thomas on the depth chart. He will have his shot. I think Orleans Darkwa will get his shot as well. Hickey's got a track record that suggests he'll hang onto runners of low draft standing if they show something,

I'm not sure I've ever posted in a Daniel Thomas thread. I'm always amazed at the heated opinions on him. If anybody is symbolic of our current and recent malaise, it's Daniel Thomas. Logical backup and rotational type for a mediocre team. If we become a terrible team, then Thomas might be the starter. If we rise to playoff caliber, Thomas will be gone.

It's interesting that RobertHorry believes Lazor will prefer Thomas above Miller. Horry has some of the best instincts on this site. I'll have to keep an eye on this. So far I haven't studied Lazor at all. Every time his name shows up I still think of Bob Lazar the UFO guy. We'll have an Area 51 offense.

I remember thinking ck was way off base about dt the year we destroyed our draft to trade up and take him. So far td has been exactly the player ck said he'd be. So I wish ck was wrong about him but like other "if they only had 'x' to help them out they would be pro bowlers" it's time to hope we get a better running back on the roster to get rid of this guy

DT's best two games were his first two .Now i really don't see an up side. If you're happy with 3.5 yards a carry and decent receiving skills he's your guy. Personally I think we can do better. Much better.

DT will show flashes here and there, but the issue I had more than anything else was his horrible blocking.

I posted the stat originally because I found humor in it. Im well aware that stats can show what you want them to, thats why I did it. I do still support DT and all of our players. With that said, if any players on our team are challenged by a better player and happen to get outperformed, then I see no reason that they cant be cut or traded. That goes for everyone. I wont lose any sleep over DT being gone, but I dont want him replaced because he didnt turn into a 1500 yard back. I want him challenged and beaten. I dont care by whom. I don't know enough about his challengers, but I will root for them just as hard. It was mentioned in this thread that our team and its players are rooted for no matter how bad they are. That doesnt mean that person does not want Super Bowls, or a winning season. Everything is not in absolutes. I root for Egnew. I also root for projects that have been on the team for 5 years. Egnew didnt keep us from drafting his replacement just like DT didnt keep us from drafting a beast of a RB. If Egnew and DT play worse than the competition then they are out.

Also, if you watch Miller's final game, he runs with a lower pad level and better leg drive. That has to be coaching. If Miller can do that because of coaching, then I think there is a chance DT can as well.
