Danny Kanell defends Icognito, blames media for overhype

Danny Kannell is a solid guy from a good family. He makes some good points and I'm glad to see him speaking with a clear head....

There could be a lot more of that approach to go around

That's the smartest reaction I've seen to this entire thing. Thank you Danny for rising above the parrot like analyst community at espn. They need to play that sound byte on sportscenter

You need to listen to this from a real NFL player perspective instead of the mush the media and some fans are spewing trying to appear hip with what's currently popular in our culture.

Yeah, I'll take the opinion of Danny Kanell over Tom Jackson, Cris Carter, and Bill Polian (two HOFers and one
potential HOFer).

You're probably going to get a more honest opinion from a nobody like Kanell than any of those guys. They are all well established media personalities now with a lot more to lose than Kanell. That and they have to feed their ratings. What else would they be talking about if this wasn't going on? This is a juicy story that they be disgusted, appalled, angry, etc... about. Sensationalism is all the rage these days and this story is perfect for it. They can't be saying this is overblown, then the story would go away. We're on MNF this week, they need to milk this thing at least until then.

What a load of crap to blame the media for making a big deal out of blatant racism. Are you all suggesting it should be downplayed? Also can't believe Kanell pulled an "I've seen a few white guys use the N-word as a term of endearment, so now it's okay for all white guys to use it in any context". Some of the delusional fan reactions I've seen to this Martin episode are Penn State Riot-esque. Here's the transcript of the voicemail just so you guys know what you're defending.

"Hey, wassup, you half n----- piece of s---. I saw you on Twitter, you been training 10 weeks. [I want to] s--- in your f---ing mouth. [I'm going to] slap your f---ing mouth. [I'm going to] slap your real mother across the face [laughter]. F--- you, you're still a rookie. I'll kill you."

I think Ricky made some sense in his interview

Ricky Williams " On bullying: "My first thought was how is bullying something that's even mentioned regarding the NFL? Because that's kind of what we're taught to do, at least on the field - to bully the guy across from us so we can win the football game."

And: "What we're required to do physically, mentally and emotionally for the course of a season is astronomical; it's amazing. And I'm not saying that it's bad. I'm saying just really speaks to what it takes to be a professional football player. And to me there's no room to play the victim or to be bullied or to even have that discussion when it comes to the NFL. If you're having that discussion, it just means that maybe you don't belong in the NFL."

Jesse Jackson spews racist **** all the time and nobody gives a ****

Yeah, you're right. There's really no defending using that type of language towards anyone, especially a teammate. Incognito's a scumbag and hopefully he'll be out of the league for good.

In an effort to try to salvage the point that I made a horrible attempt at trying to make...I don't think this should be downplayed, it should be reported for what it is. My issue is that I think some reporters take the reporting too far based on what a "source" tells them so they can be the first with the story. They have a responsibility to report he news. I don't like seeing accusations towards the front office when there isn't evidence yet. As far as I know. They definitely need to question how this went on without anyone knowing it, if in fact they didn't. However, I've seen guys making statements that they knew for a fact that coaches knew when it's their opinion.

Bottom line, if this went beyond a Martin-Incognito thing and involved coaches...clean house. However, I don't want to see people lose their jobs if they're innocent of wrong doing and they are only fired because there is a media s-torm and someone's head needs to roll. Which will probably happen anyway.

There is no defending the language by saying thats lockeroom culture. Obviously Martin does not like being talked to like that because we are here its that simple. Maybe guys should wake up and realize that you should be more careful what you say and do. There is nothing funny about calling someone a N blank and deficating on their family. Its idiotic ideas like this is acceptable in lockerrom so its just cool is a dated conceot. If a player does not want to be dealt with like that you have to respect that regardless of what u do

Talking points
1. Buzz words "Bully" "Hazing" and racially charged words make this story of interest
2. Locker room culture different. Players use words endearingly not hateful
3. Rookie dinners common
4. Cited context of TMZ video

I agree with everything except #2. Im sure Cogs was using the n word in its derogatory form.

I couldn't care less if it's over hyped. The more hype the better. Anything that shines the light on this pathetic regime is good for the agenda. They need to be gone. All of them.
