I’d heard in NFL circles, like others, that Ray Farmer was the leading candidate in Miami's GM search. But might be wise to relax on that.
Jeff Darlington said:
Not to say Farmer wasn’t solid, but after chat w/ source involved in MIA's search, we’d be wise to resist dubbing anyone as clear favorite.
Jeff Darlington said:
In fact, a source has made it abundantly clear Miami’s GM search will involve even more candidates (in addition to 5 already interviewed).
Jeff Darlington said:
You can expect it to be nearly a week before the Dolphins begin to revisit with select candidates for second/final interviews next week-ish.
Jeff Darlington said:
The Dolphins do not feel pressure to expedite a hire because of any outside factors/teams. They want to get this right rather than rush.

Point in all of this? If you’re waiting for tweet to say GM has been hired, you’ll want to take a breath. It’ll likely be more than a week.

Sounds good that they're taking their time and being thorough. I like it. I hope this is the beginning of a true change around here.

I got to be honest…I think Eric Mangini is in play here. Why the need to wait?

I understand. I wish they could at least eliminate some candidates so that they don't waste anyone's time.

Was hoping to see them hire someone before the Senior Bowl, but I agree I would rather it be the right hire and not a rush hire.

Who has the loose lips in these meetings? Ross? Peterson? Aponte? Higgins? If it is not Ross, Ross should fire the leaker.

I think this is right and hopefully there will be candidates coming from the losers in next week's playoff games.

Get it right this time.

If it goes on too long, it could look disorganized. You got to find the right fit, but at some point you cannot let this thing meander for too long.

No later than at least a few days before the Senior Bowl at the latest we can assume.

Any good GM candidate will already have his initial list of potential draftees ready anyway.

The other thing is if they take weeks to make the pick and they come back to a guy they interviewed first, it begs the question, "why didn't you hire the guy in the first place?" "Are you settling?"

Fine line they are walking.

I still say Mangini is in play.

The entire Senior Bowl **** is overblown. The coaching staff will be there and everything is on film. Meh.

Coaches and scouts can still attend the Senior Bowl. And if the new GM isn't hired until afterward... he'll probably have attended it with his other team anyway.

Not a huge deal. Panthers took their sweet time as well.

It's been speculated that Miami is going to approach Scot McCloughan again to see if there's any interest. Probably also means Eliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith could be interviewed. Maybe even a Nick Caserio

It also boggles my mind how anybody can say Mangini is a good candidate let alone a brilliant mind.

I’m told Ray Farmer, for instance, was delightfully surprised by the situation in Miami. He really liked everyone, including Aponte/Philbin.
