I usually hold Polian very high. But I don't think he really has watched the Dolphins this year. Of the 4 sacks last week Tannehill is at fault at least for 2. One is debatable and the other one was on the OL.

This excuse making is becoming almost comical if it would not be that sad.

Yes, least 1-2 of those sacks this week were on him. That said, I still reject the narrative that he's HORRIBLE in the pocket. He just attempts more passes than 90% of NFL quarterbacks. His sack percentage last year was lower than Russell Wilson's. 9.8 vs 9.0. Tannehill's career sack percentage is lower overall, too. 8.7 vs 7.9. For all the talk about one QB's escapability, it's not moving that makes a QB good at avoiding sacks, it's getting rid of the football. See: Dan Marino, Tom Brady.

It's not that I think Tannehill has been playing great, but rather, I think that some of the specific things he's being bashed for are red herrings.

For a guy who's very book smart, he's not quite the cerebral guy back there. He's a reactionary, non-instinctual QB because he likes to rely on his arm strength.

He plays like a development guy. Someone, who's learning how to play the position! When you ask, "Well what kinda intangibles does Tannehill bring to the QB position?" You can't really think of anything.
