David Cornwell’s statement regarding Jonathan Martin

I am in the minority. It seems that nearly everyone on here just loves and defends Incognito, but I can empathize with Martin. I don't think that he's just after money, I think that he has probably experienced hell from his teammates in the quest to toughen him up. I also can see the O-line coach asking Incognito to pick on him and Richie taking great pleasure in taking it as far as he possibly could.
Most of us on this website share a love for the Dolphins, and after listening to the player interviews, I think that they were probably very honest that they were not aware that there was a problem. But that doesn't mean that there wasn't a problem. Martin just kept it to himself and then it finally blew up in the cafeteria incident.
I guess I just have more natural compassion for Martin and the situation he was in. To all those who see him as a devious snake, we agree to disagree. I still respect your passion for our team, but I just see it a bit differently. I can understand a smart well educated guy not wanting to face a daily torrent of personal abuse from a dumb bigoted thug.

Even if Incognito was wronged in this specific situation in some way, I find him a pretty detestable human being. Hard to empathize with, and I empathize with everyone here. I even empathize with someone I hate -- Jeff Ireland. How can you not empathize with him staring into the abyss of losing the job he's wanted his whole life?

Unfortunately I think a lot of the people on the forum aren't dogging on Martin because of the situation he found himself in. I think they're dogging on him because his resolution to that situation has made their favorite NFL team look foolish. That's pretty sad, imo, that people would let their fandom overwhelm the normal human instinct to empathized with the bullied, rather than the bully. Which isn't to say you have to agree with the way Martin handled it. But if this isn't the Dolphins then we'd only be seeing a fraction of the hate.

You made my point though, just because its a joke to InCognito doesnt mean martin has to take it as a joke.
I mean who really knows whats happening. The rhetoric is quite amped up.
We have went from people being scumbags because their parents were in prostitution to people being scumbags because they have parents that are harvard educated lawyers lol

Dude, you still honestly think this is about his wittle fweelings got hurt? C'mon man, I've seen your posts for years.

He's a manchild who's heart wasn't in it and had to justify to mommy and daddy why he quit. It's a convenient excuse that blew up in his face and has spiraled out of control. He's stuck in his bs and now has to see it through or risk the wrath of his holier than thou parents.

C'mon D cross over to the dark side. It shall set you free brother.

I appreciate your opinion on this but I do have to question if you've ever played athletics or if you are even a male. No offense but it just seems like you are similar to Martin and part of the problem with society.

Yes, I'm a man and I played sport as a young guy. I didn't grow up in the US, so I never played american football. But I love watching it.
If my work colleagues harassed me all the time with vulgar threatening language, my inclination would probably be like Martin's. I would probably prefer to walk away than confront the oppressor than get my teeth shoved down my throat by the "dirtiest player in the NFL". I think that JMart probably does still want to play the game. But on another team.
BTW - because I would prefer not to be physically or verbally abused, I don't think that I'm part of the problem with society. I think that I'm normal.

I found it interesting that they led w/ the whole Harbaugh/Stanford angle.

The thesis statement is supposed to set up what you are trying to accomplish not rehashing glory days. Later on, you can use the past as support. But, what the hell do I know? I went to the U of Utah who bullied Stanford a few weeks ago.

The only thing they have is ungentlemanly/NonPC behavior. Didn't Channing and numerous others say, "The NFL is not representative of typical society." ?

Silver (the dbag talking head on NFLN (@ halftime tonight)) tried to insinuate the phins were scared. Tannehill, Hartline, etc.. were hiding it well. ROFL!

I mean the guy is soft. Just an awful evaluation of character by Ireland. Actually when Martin was drafted, Mayock and Kiper said his weakness was he didn't have a nasty streak.

I'm not one to tell dirty jokes or use to derogatory words. I never have and never will. But that doesn't mean we should have a society where any time a person is offended, they look for a way to cash in. That is even more disgusting than the lewd language.

Incognito is a gross meatball of a human.. But this Martin guy is so much worse... He pretends to befriend people, keeps tabs on them, then drags EVERYONE down into the mud. It's sick what he is casually doing to all his former teammates. These people have families, jobs they like, and he is willfully destroying all of this. Heck, Philbin just lost his son a little over a year ago, and this job was one thing that helped him cope, and this ****head is destroying that for him, a man who may not have had much leadership in the org, but he didn't deserve this ****storm.

VERY WELL SAID!!!

No one is saying Martin had to like this stuff. He was always welcome to find another line of work. Hell, he couldve demanded a trade or his release if he wants to play football and honestly believes he wont hear these things in another locker room(he would be mistaken of course).

But, there was absolutely NO NEED to have this kind of negative effect on all of these peoples lives just because he didnt like working for the Phins and with his co workers. What any of those guys did to him is nothing compared to what he is doing. On top of that, what he is doing has malicious intent. He wants to harm the team and its players with what he is doing. His teammates had no intentions of hurting Martin when they made those comments.

Whats worse is what he is doing is harming people who had absolutely nothing to do with whatever some of his teammates did. Joe Philbin does not deserve this. Like you said, the man just lost his son, but does Martin care? Obviously not. Martin is also harming A LOT of phins fans with this BS.

Finally, for all of the people acting like anyone is suggesting this kind of juvenile behavior is critical to the game..... GET REAL! We all know it isnt. But, on the other hand, is it imperative that we play the game without people busting each others balls? Why cant people make crude jokes and comments with their teammates as a form of bonding AND play football together at the same time? What isnt necessary is all of this PC, liberal, sew everyone BS.

Get over yourselves people. Stop acting like you are so high brow and a few defecation and sister banging jokes are the worst thing ever.

Jon Martin can go to hell.

Do you really think Jon Martin's response to this situation has been appropriate? On what PLANET is his behavior, if this really is a case of him being bullied, on what PLANET would this behavior be considered acceptable?

And second of all, he never asked them to stop, ever? Really? And third of all, his dad wrote a damn text on bullying, and he went ahead and displayed 'classic bullied behavior?' Really?

This **** STINKS. Code Green. Get the cash.

Well Said TheWalrus.

eWell in reality football can still be played without racial attacks in jest or not or deficating on peoples moms.
I do realize that many would not be able to play at the same level without such important tools to work with

How about.. if you do speak in that manner you're an ******* and present yourself that way or two you don't. How exactly do you wanna handle this specifically?

How about what they said on NFL Network about Incognito having proof that will be damaging to Martin and prove it was more of a back and forth

I was pro-Martin for a while. Even now I find it hard to say Im pro Incognito because Im not sure hes the kind of dude Id care to align myself. I just cant sympathize with Martin anymore because of the way hes handled this fiasco.

I guarantee you EVERY player in that locker room is scared ****less. And I know there aren't 50+ bullies in there.

But you don't have to be a bully to make an off-color comment or text message that this guy has been saving for a year and a friggin' half to bring you into a lawsuit for hurting his feelings.

This **** is unreal.

Something doesnt add up about that esp since he has been a starter from day one and was really no less of a lineman than anyone outside of Pouncey this year.
He showed no signs of his heart not being in football until this recent blowup. I think u are oversimplifying this and none of us really have a clue.

I still don't buy that he was "bullied" any more than any other guy on the team. We have heard of things like this on NFL teams for years. Hard Knocks even glorifies this stuff! Guys like Ochocinco and Crowder made a living off of it. So one guy in the hundreds of thousands of guys who have been through the NFL finally felt this was bullying? This isn't a 5th grade dweeb just trying to take a piss and getting jumped by a bunch of jocks... This is a man who chose this PROFESSION and by many accounts participated in many of the same antics. In addition, he never once told anyone that he was uncomfortable with anything, and then leaves and sues them for hurting his feelings that noone knew was hurting his feelings? This guy is mentally deranged, not bullied. I don't care if this happened on the Jets, if I knew all the details like I do now, I would say the same thing. This Martin guy is destroying innocent people for no reason. Borderline sociopathic...
