Dead Serious: What options do we have next year (At QB)?

Tua is the option at QB next year. Even if you don’t want to give him another year, we don’t have the cap or picks to make a significant move at the position next year. It will be Tua and McDaniel again next year, and I honestly don’t think that’s a bad thing. Time will tell.

As advertised? That wasn't advertised at all. Some ppl just jumped to unfounded conclusions. They saw/believed what they wanted to without any evidence.
Bullshit. Ask any 49ers fan. He was pegged the run game guru.

You know what good GM do is to admit when they admit to missing on a pick. The common mistake made is not cutting cord. The Cards drafted Rosen and by 3rd season he was gone. Regardless if Tua comes back next season he is not the Franchise QB, what more is there to see?
Cool. So tell me what Assets do you have to replace Tua. It is always easy to say move on. That Good GM can name the replacements. So play this game. When and if you think you should move on from Tua name the replacement.

Exactly what I said. Fans created that narrative. It wasn't "advertised", it was made up by outsiders. "Advertised" implies that McD was propagating the idea as a selling point. He wasn't.

I mean fans are, by nature, all over the place. Just look at this forum. You can't get a consensus on anything, and even if you did, consensus does not equal correctness.

This past month has been hard to watch no doubt. I definitely wouldn’t put all the blame on just Tua for this losing streak tho. There’s several other issues going on right now with this team lately as well that we need to fix.

That being said, I’m not pointing out that there’s other issues with our team right now to defend Tua by any means. Tua has definitely been very inconsistent the last 4 weeks.

The second half of the Green Bay game was a literal nightmare to watch. Especially after watching Tua play extremely well in the 1st half.
I understand he may of been dealing with a concussion but I still don’t believe that’s an excuse for his poor performance in the second half. I’m pretty sure Tua likely noticed that something was off when the concussion happened so I believe he should have let the staff know during the game instead of trying to fight through it. I understand football players fight through pain often to play and I understand Tua’s situation with injuries likely led to him trying to fight through it.
Im all good when players fight through injuries to play as long as they still play well. I’m not cool with a player fighting through an injury to play and not playing well tho. Players have to factor in how injuries will affect their performance before deciding to fight through the pain.
So imo that’s why I won’t use the concussion as an excuse for this bad game. Tua clearly needs to play better and more consistent.

Now when it comes to the offseason and Tua. I definitely don’t think Miami should make replacing Tua a priority. Especially with limited options to upgrade QB this offseason.
Now if something pops up this offseason where we have a legitimate chance at landing a QB that’s a clear upgrade over Tua then do it but I just don’t see any QBs out there that would be a clear upgrade like that.Only QB I believe would be a clear upgrade would be Lamar but I’m sure he’ll get tagged.

So since there is limited options this offseason to upgrade QB then we need to just bring in some competition and focus on upgrading the other holes we have.
Plus Mike McDaniel has shown some promise his first year but also has had a handful of mistakes. It’s his first year as a HC tho so he’ll just have to focus the things that he struggled with so he can learn to get better himself.

Filling out the other holes with our team and Mike fixing some of the things he’s struggled with definitely needs to be our priority this offseason. Rushing to make a QB change would just be flat out dumb if there’s no clear upgrade so we definitely can’t go into this offseason prioritizing finding a new QB.

I do believe if Miami focuses on addressing our other team needs and Mike fixes up some of his coaching issues then we’ll take another step next year and could possibly become a more consistent team even with Tua.

We can’t ignore that Tua was having a great season before December. The collapse late is ugly for sure but I think it’s extremely clear that Tua took a big step still from last season to now.
We also have to factor in that this is the first time Tua has had a legitimate offense around him now and a lot of the offense will be back.
Tua had a very bad offense around him the first two seasons. Not only were the players around him bad but he had to play with a lot of bad players his first two seasons because of injuries and bad moves our front office made to upgrade the offense for his second year.
The only offensive player that will likely be around next year that he played with under Flores will be Waddle.
So imo since our offense actually has good pieces now this year that will be back next year is big for our offense and Tua. The more and more guys play with each other the more chemistry they build which is something Tua never had a chance to do.

On top of some key offensive players being back next year to help with chemistry. Mike McDaniel coaching Tua for another year, could also be a key factor for Tua to take another step next season.
It’s clear Mike McDaniel has helped Tua take a step for sure. It doesn’t surprise me that he took a step under McDaniel as well since our last staff was stupid as 💩 when it came to offense.
Mike is an offensive guy and this is technically the first season Tua has had with a legitimate offensive coach. We clearly seen this season how much it has helped Tua by adding an offensive coach. Imo bringing in Mike to help Tua even unleashed some things in Tua that I didn’t even think he had in him like that.

So since there was a clear step Tua took under Mike McDaniel year 1, what makes people think this is the best Mike will get out of Tua? The collapse has been ugly but that doesn’t mean Tua can’t take another step next season. Especially going into year 2 with weapons, an offensive minded coach and the same system….
Going into year two with the same key guys around him as well as the same offensive system is something he never had under Flores.

So I definitely believe there’s a legit chance Tua can take another step next season. That’s why I believe Miami just needs to prioritize fixing the other issues instead of hitting the panic button.

Now I still wouldn’t rule out bringing in a QB to compete with him tho. I’m curious to see the contract Jimmy G will still demand after the injury he had now. If there was an opportunity to land Jimmy G to a team friendly deal then I’m all for bringing him in.
Jimmy G coming in cheap would be the best possible QB to add to compete with Tua. I do believe Tua will still win the job and start next year but having Jimmy G as a backup will give us a good player that we can start at any time during the season if Tua struggles next year.

If we can’t land a guy like Jimmy G cheap to bring in to compete with Tua. Then I’d possibly look at the round 2 or round 3 QBs in the draft. Idk who is personally like in the draft yet but imo if we can land a proven vet in free agency to compete with Tua then the next best option we’d have would be a rookie QB that has some potential. I wouldn’t expect a rookie to be able to take over midseason and be successful like that tho unless we hit a gem but drafting a QB somewhat early would give us a year to develop him. Then if Tua struggles next year, then we’ll have a QB with some potential and a year of development on the roster already to plug in 2 seasons from now

I know this is all a lot but that is just how I feel about Miami’s current situation and what I believe we need to do this offseason to get better

I am not sure but what McDaniel has done with Tua is amazing. I can’t tell you who but there will be QB, available by trade or draft.

But there is the rub right? It is always easy to say move on without a path forward. And getting it wrong puts a franchise back into the QBless abysss
The main reason why you move on is because he is a huge liability in regards to head truama. The NFL’s biggest lawsuit is from head truama and knowing what we know Miami has to protect player from himself. Also, Tua is the one who went to the doctors about what he was experiencing and I understand because he has a family but he had to know what kind of impact it will have on his career. Lastly if we miss the playoffs another element gets added to the equation.

I assume he was called a Run Game Guru because he held the title of Run Game Coordinator before he became SF's OC, and they had a good running game. However, it appears that he never earned that title, since Shanahan was the one calling the plays. And in Miami, he goes away from the running game even when it's working. I just rewatched the Green Bay game. They were doing well running up the middle until GB shut that down. But, this time McDaniel kept running some more. Unfortunately, it was still up the middle! He just doesn't seem to understand that he's allowed to make adjustments and do something different!
