Dennis Hickey interviews for GM

I do agree with some.Tampa has some talent. But let him stay where he is.

On paper, this one doesn't really thrill me. However, as I've espoused previously, there's usually very little to lose, and often much to gain in terms of information gathering and exposure to different thought processes and philosophies for both the hiring company and the candidate. Of course that's providing you don't lose momentum and miss out on your #1 by stretching it out beyond reason. From a hiring standpoint, if there's a leading candidate to use as a benchmark, interviewing others who are qualified by comparison either can reinforce that opinion or conversely, might prove an eye-opener that argues otherwise. It's all good, so long as it doesn't become a ridiculously drawn out exercise that would suggest to interested prospective GMs that Ross and company don't know what they're looking for. In fact it might provide some pleasant surprises along the way as some folks in reality either far exceed or fall short of what their paper credentials would suggest. :idk:

That 2012 draft where they got Doug Martin, Mark Barron and Lavonte David is about as big a homerun as you can hit with your top 3 picks. Also brought in Revis, VJax, Goldson, Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph among others. I'm not crazy about paying top $ on FA's tho, so he isn't at the top of my list. But that roster has tons of talent, he's a good interview.

Overpaid for a bunch of overrated players in Free Agency (with the exception to Revis) no thanks.

Goldson, Eric Wright... VJ still got overpaid

He isn't anything special, I agree. I'd still like him more than Kahn or Gaine. VJ's good value when you look at what we shelled out for Wallace, at least VJax can go up and high point a football. That 2012 draft was genius.

On the surface it seems surprising, because the only other team looking for a GM is Tampa Bay. However, there is no harm in interviewing good people and better understanding the different approaches to analyzing personnel. He may also be someone in the mix to take over responsibility for a similar role in Miami. Look if the Bucs appoint a new GM, Hickey could be out and looking for a job.

Guys, I like this guys track record. Tampa has had really good players. Just not good coaches. This Dennis Hickey has been instrumental in a lot of those players. Seams like a really good evaluator of talent.

Don't know enough about him, but I'll say this; Tampa always did a good job of finding guys to fit what they wanted to do on defense, and they have built better offensive lines than we've had even before paying for Nicks.

On the fence about him
