Devonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle

I must admit that when we were going into the draft, I wanted Smith, thinking he was the more consistent player, while Waddle was just the homerun all or nothing player...I was right that Smith is a very consistent player, but Waddle proved to be just as consistent, with slightly more success.

Smith played in 49 games, to Waddle's 47.

Waddle has 251 rec to Smith's 240.

Waddle has 3385 (13.5 yac) yrds to Smith's 3178 (13.2).

Smith has 1 more TD then Waddle 19 to 18 with having played 2 more games.

Now some can say but Waddle drops so many passes. Well, Waddle's success rate is 57.6 to Smith's 54.8.

Both are amazing receivers, and both are are equally efficient in helping their teams. I would be very happy with either one, but personally I believe Waddle adds the being more dangerous element to his game, and I believe Miami got the right player.

Can you guys just stop this crap. We could have had Mac Jones too. Every time someone makes a play we get a new thread.
Let it go already.
The problem is folks love, “I would have taken player X” after player X is good. These folks don’t realize 2 things:

Nobody cares
Nobody believes them. Hindsight is 20/20

I would choose Smith. They are both good, but Waddle cost more to trade up for than any other WR ever I think. More than it cost the Lions to trade up for Calvin Johnson. Hindsight is 20/20 but I think the Dolphins should've drafted Micah Parsons at #12 and kept the extra first-round pick that they used to trade up for Waddle.

We could have gotten Devonta who has been a pretty solid receiver. They have almost exact career stats.
I could be mistaken but didn’t the trade back allow us to get J Phillips? I’m other words we got Waddle and Phillips vs one player - or do I have it wrong?

As for Smith vs Waddle, I like Waddle more

I also had Smith as my first choice. I think that if Smith had been in Miami his stats would have been better. He had a better connection with Tua than Waddle did. Smith was Tua's security blanket in college. I think that would have continued in the pros. Where Smith was more consistent than Waddle was in his route running rather than catch rate (although I do believe Smith has more natural hands). That would have translated to to Tua trusting Smith and throwing the pass in situations where he wanted Waddle but ended up holding the ball.

That being said, I don't think there was a wrong choice among the top 3 at WR in that draft. I had Chase as the best WR, but not the best fit here. I had Smith above Waddle, but Waddle is still a probowl level WR who is continuing to get better. And Waddle has a speed element that impacts how defenses play us.

The question should be do you prefer Waddle or Smith and an extra first round pick

Devonta is a taller receiver and seems more durable, always produced in big games. Waddle has been hurt a lot never mind the drops
Waddle was supposed to be the more durable of the two. People here was comparing Devonta to stick figures saying he'd be hurt all the time lol

I’ve always liked Waddle and he’s proven to be durable in his first 2 season despite always battling something in 2023. I know this is a “what have you done for me lately” league but I’m going to still consider him reliable and durable based on his first 2 seasons. I think the Dolphins have a Tyreek problem. They need to get a lot more guys involved in the offense next year and forget about this 2000 yards BS.

And not get to do this in my living room?

F@ck Devonta Smith

Waddle is a baller and I am glad we have him but I would sure like Sewell right now anchoring down the line and protecting Tua's blindside. That would have been my pick at the time for what it's worth. I feel like good WRs like Waddle are much easier to draft than top 5 OT talent like Sewell.

At 12 we weren't getting either. We traded up where we were sure we would get at least 1, however they both happened to be still on the board and we made the right choice even if marginally. There.
