Dion Jordan bulks up to 265 pounds.

I really thought Jordan would be better suited at OLB, and I think they are just making him a DE edge rusher so that they can justify the draft pick, rather than playing to his strengths at OLB. Also, he said he was playing at 260 lbs last year, so this bulking up by 5 lbs is trivial. Even if he got a lot stronger since he was drafted, I still don't see him getting many more snaps with the emergence of Oliver Vernon. I think this guy is going to have to wait until Wake retires or falls off to be an every down DE.

So after getting a full off season's work there's no way he beats out OV? I like OV especially because he's from the U, but he's not as effective as a pass rusher as you may think.

If he doesn't start we're going to hear it from the media -_-

Right now I'm not sure Jordan can beat out OV for the starting DE role. Jordan will certainly be in the rotation, but more snaps to Jordan means less to OV and Wake, which is why I thought he would be a better fit at OLB.

This is the part that really sucks. You want ALL of your best players on the field at the SAME time. So by taking out one and inserting the other you're not utilizing your full potential at one particular time.

Well dont forget Vernon shifts to dt on passing downs he was the most effective inside. So jordan and wake outside work vernon inside with starks on passing downs

If we had a report today saying that he came into camp at 250 we all would have lost it- myself included. Coming in at 265+ is a geat sign. Being he is still physically developing since the football body doesn't mature until about 24/25 I doubt anything will lack of his athleticism from adding muscle. I doubt this guy could even add fat now if he wanted to. This has all the makings for beings crazy year on defense for us

Just think of having rotations at DT/DE all year with no noticeable dropoff in talent. By December when other teams have guys tired and worn out ours still have more in the tank to give. That's a great asset to a team. Also, God forbid, there is an injury we have depth as to not screw us. I like what I see on the DL so far.

if Jordan improves to a point where he legitimatelly takes snaps away from Wake and Vernon, that's a good problem to have. everybody will be fresher

i'm not buying the he was 260 stuff last year...if that is the case though this 5 lbs added isn't gonna make much of a difference...we will probably never really get a straight answer anyways

The added muscle is good for sure. But, it wasn't even Jordan's biggest weakness last year. His technique is horrible. He needs to learn 3 things to be considered for more than spot duty:

1. Leverage
He needs to get low and anchor because even at 265 he is Hella light. He needs to be more stout at the PoA and that will not happen without leverage. He needs to learn how to disengage like JT used to do. It's hard for a guy that tall, but it is even more important because he doesn't have the raw power of the 300 lbs'ers.

2. Arm use and hand placement
The guy has a Condor wingspan and that can gene a lot of leverage to slip by a OT in the pass rush or keep his hands off you. The kid has no idea how to use his long levers. Also, his hand placement is terrible. There is a lot to learn. Thus Farr the only thing he is using is his feet ... and that less than half the battle. Jordan should watch tape of Chris Long ... that guy uses his hands very well at both DE and DT. Jordan should be a stunting machine in our defense.

3. Pass rush moves
He has some of the speed rush down ... but really he doesn't have much else and even that is raw. JT can really help him here as well. Without more moves he will 9 nay be a shadow of what his athletic gifts suggest.

So, I'm happy about the added muscle and presumably power. Now in camp is the time to work on the rest. He has a lot to learn, but I can think of no better personal tutor than Jason Taylor.

He has cat like quickness. He should be the outside linebacker. Philbin is a moron.

Someone needs to tell Philbin the doofus that outside linebackers are allowed to hunt quarterbacks too.

I'm guessing they feel he can have an even bigger impact on the game at the DE position rather than OLB. I agree!

yeah i know...i saw that...i just dont buy it and if it's true i don't think this added 5 lbs is gonna make enough of a difference as a poa guy vs the run off what i saw last year...

Yeap I don't think the pounds will make a difference, but if he's added some lower body and core strength he could fare better. I wouldn't be surprised if he was 260 by season's end though, although there's no way he started off there.

Glad to hear he took the offseason seriously and bulked up. Wake, Vernon and Jordan is a very impressive trio.
and don't forget Derrick Shelby !!! Wake, Vernon, Jordan, Shelby ..this unit can be a force and has almost no dropdown in rotation.
