Direct Tv NFL Package Going up!

As much as I'm not happy about the $100 mark up this year for the HD games, I couldn't live without my Sunday Ticket. Guess the price of beer and food for my friends just went up this year.

Phreak, you are da man; I wanna be you when I grow up.

Yankeehillbilly, you made good points in response to my rant about dumping cable and getting DTV. But I guess for me personally - my choice, no one else's - it comes down to how much you want something.

I was living in an apartmenbt that I had been in for 5 years, and decided top get DTV so I could have the Ticket. The landlord was not OK with it; it wasn't the dish she minded, but the fact that it would mean drilling a hole in the wall for coax access.

I weighed the unhappiness I was experiencing every Sunday during the season watching that goddam little ball on yahoo, with the page refreshing every 30 seconds, and told her that if she didn't want to make an exception, I'd move. She said no, and I moved.

That was 4 years ago, and I've never looked back. Sometimes,. you have to make a move to gain your happiness.

And that landlord can eat my ****.

It keeps going up, yet canceling it isnt even an option. they got us hooked

Yes, but if you have subscribed in the past its 199.00. Good catch though. Still cheaper then a sports bar.

Yeah but I prefer the two sports bars I go to here in Colorado...one has about 60 Dolphins fans, and the other place I go to near my house shows every game and has great food....I don't mind spending $10-$20 for a great time and cheering on my team with other Dolphin fans. :) I just don't care to smell like smoke afterwards. :(

Ahhhh, Denver. Did they ever clear up that mess about paying cash under the table.
You know? The nasty bit that has tainted your super bowls?

Whats wrong? Still pissed about the a$$ wupping that jay fiedler put on you at home a few years ago?

Does anyone know where I can get that picture of I believe it was Adam Vinetieri holding his head down with the sign FIns Win in the background? It was taken last december when we beat the Pats.

No but that was the best christmas present that I got last year!

What pissed me off about DirecTV was the two Miami games they DID NOT show because of the hurricanes last year....I think one game got rescheduled to a Saturday or maybe that was a preseason game??? I believe the Dolphins first regular season game was not shown on DirecTV and it was not on at the Sportsbars so I missed my first Phins game in about a decade, so I had to follow the game on my computer.

The Pittsburgh game was shown- it was moved to Sunday night because of the one hurricane. I saw it at a bar before I wised up and got DirecTV.

That was up there. The Saban hiring- which happened on Christmas Day- was better though.

Yeah I remember seeing part of the Pittsburgh game...they were playing in the mud if my memory is correct? I just remember the hurricanes really messed things up....I think one of the games was only shown on DirecTV in the Miami area?? Anyway, hope there are no hurricanes messing things up this year.

$199.00 is not bad when you invite other Dolfans over to watch. I make that money up with pizza and beer! When someone comes over they ask what to bring I tell them Beer and we chip in for pizza!!!

Why do people think Sunday Ticket is cheaper? I never understood that.

Say you spend $20 per game at a sports bar and you go to watch all 16 games. This is a total of $320. Now suppose you get Sunday Ticket at $220 and watch all 16 games. Looks like a savings of $100, right?

Wrong. You're not paying for football. You're paying for food and drinks. If you really wanted, you can go to a bar and just drink root beer and eat fries for $5. Nobody's making you pay a dime to watch the football games. I can watch the entire Dolphins season for the price of fuel to and from the bar if I want. Also, you're paying just for football at home. Supplying yourself with food and drink for 16 games is likely going to make up the difference - if it doesn't, I would be very surprised. Any time you don't have time for a game or it's on national TV, for example, you don't have to go anywhere. If you have Sunday Ticket, you're still paying for it.

People pay for convenience. It's a common justification that it's cheaper to pay for the satellite service versus a sports bar. It's just not true.

Personally, I don't like what DirecTV provides in any sense as I much prefer cable. I think the package is worth it because bars are generally disgusting and filled with chimneys (I'm allergic to cigarette smoke). I'd be happy to pay for the convenience of not having to deal with obnoxious carcinogens, but I'm not yet ready to part with cable. With any luck, DirecTV's monopoly will be ended soon enough.

Opinion well said but I disagree.
I like to have a couple of beers watching the game. I like to eat lunch etc... watching the game. So if I have to go to a bar to watch it I will order beer and food.
So figuring in the difference in paying for beers and food multiplying x2 (married to a football watcher) was approx $60 for just the Miami game. the Ticket for me is 11.77 a week adding food and drinks purchased at the supermarket would in no way measure up to $60

Besides watching all the games all 17 weeks on the Ticket I don't have to get to the bar at 10A to make sure that I get the front and center seat in front of the 61in TV. At home it's mine.:D

And Tivo brings it up another subject alltogther. Nothing like watching the BUa hit over and over. Pausing one game switching to the other back and forth.

Coming into my 7th season on DirecTV. Since I've had DirecTV they have increased my channels and decreased my monthly charges routinely. Sure the Ticket has gotten pricier but every cable co. on Long Island has increased there monthly charges while bickering about showing the local sports channels.
