Disapointed with Hickey this offseason

I have a friend who's a serious KC fan and he thinks the Dolphins just got the best Free Agent LT in Albert. Our O-line was a disaster last year but we have an opportunity to make it a strength. Albert is a top 10 OT in the NFL and is consistently good at pass protection. I think that you are dead wrong re having a horrible attitude. He is delighted to be here. If Ireland hadn't screwed it up, he would have been here last year. Miami is where he wants to be.
As for Finnegan, the key is his physical health. He is really feisty and can irritate opposing WRs big time. He had a bad year last year and missed many games with injury, but had a great career before that. Hickey is taking a gamble that Finnegan has still got it. We should see pretty quickly in Training Camp if he's still got gas in the tank or not - match him up against Wallace and we will see if he can keep up. It wasn't very long ago that Finnegan was a really intimidating CB.
Well, all we can do is sit back and wait and see. Personally I don't think Ireland screwed it up at all, but made the correct choice. Hope I'm wrong but at the end of this year we might be seeing that Hickey not Ireland is the one that screwed up.

One thing I don't see anyone mentioning is how shrewd these signings were. After all of this spending and re-signing guys, we still have almost 30 mil left under the cap. Albert is only counting just over 6 mil this year. Finnegan is counting around 3 or less, maybe 2? And Starks only has one year guaranteed and is only counting around four against the cap. If Finnegan doesn't play well, he can get cut before the season starts without too much damage. Even if he is on the team all year but doesn't regain his old form, he too can be jettisoned in the off-season without too much pain. And if he does play like he used too and we end up with another signing like Grimes' was last year, next year his salary is only like 6-7 million which isn't over-priced for a quality CB. So, other than the large money guaranteed to Albert, which you need to do for a top flight tackle, they didn't get crazy like last year. IMHO, I think Hickey has already won my respect as a shrewd GM with his moves. And he still has work to do. So, lets play wait and see.

Losing Big Paul in exchange for Mitchell is NOT an upgrade. Our short yardage defense is going to lose a lot and Paul was one of the best space eaters in the league. Mitchell is much like Starks, but not as strong at POA. He is more of a 3rd down pass rusher from the DT. He is not going to take on double teams as well as Paul. Maybe Coyle has a plan for wanting the change but on face value I don't like the exchange. Last year I gave Coyle the benifit of the doubt when it was said he was the one wanting the changes at LB, but that worked out like a turd in the punch bowl, so if he is the one asking for the change at DT I am not impressed.
.

Soliai was very good when lining up directly over the guard (2 technique). When I saw him play the 3 technique, my impression was he played it like the 2 technique. Sometimes this led to devastating penetration by pushing the guard 3 yards into the backfield, but most of the time he was not quick enough to get the penetration expected of the 3 technique. Mitchell played the 0 technique well in the 3-4 for the Texans run. This is not his ideal position. He has the explosive first step and size for playing the 3 technique. I expect him to excel at both the 2 technique and 3 technique. I believe this is the goal for him. More consistent production within the 4-3 alignment. If so, then it will be an upgrade. If the question is who is the better player from the 0 technique it is an overwhelming win for big Paul. The problem is that the Dolphins do not play the 3-4. They play a 4-3. This is a scheme fit move. By the way, I expect Big Paul to have a monster year now that he is playing the 0 technique (NT). It is his ideal position.

No one gets to raise a banner at halftime, nor should they automatically be out of it...

I do like Albert, Delmas, Mitchell, Grimes and Starks as signings...

I don't like the fact the team has yet to address the Guard or RT position....with that said I will wait until the draft is over to give my full assessment of Mr. Hickey....

Nothing wrong with what OP said. The primary goal for Hickey this offseason was to acquire veteran leadership. Can we all agree he did that to some degree?

I agree with this. Team lacked in this this area. Lot of people are overlooking this. We need some older guys to go with the youth.

Interesting view point, for me I won't judge his moves until I see them on the field in this system and an off season of getting better not to mention waiting until the draft to see what pieces he adds in order to get the full picture of what his plan is....

Only thing I am disappointed in is that Joe Philbin will be coaching the 2014 Miami Dolphins. The rest doesn't matter when we have a coach whose gameday coaching skills will leave us on the short end of the stick too many times when the talent differential is in our favor.

I think we are a worse team now than when we ended the season. A better lt doesnt change that

I think your wrong ......buy I've had homerism for decades now...I hope you're wrong....don't you

I'm glad we got a LT. But to give a 30 year old, injury prone player nearly 50m is a hell of a gamble.

Clemons is solid. Delmas again has had loads if injury issues and IMO a better SS.

Finnegan. Whoever agrees with this signing is judging him on past reputation not on recent performance.
